I don't know what happened between last year and this year, but James has become unreliable. The work he did last year was solid and he did a great job (see happier review below), but now he's dropped off the face of the planet. After we met this month to have him do more work at my business and my home, he completely ignored all communication for over a week (when he knew I was on a fairly tight window to get this work done), although he still managed to find plenty of time to post all day, every day on Facebook. Super bummed, a little pissed, and not sure what went wrong. Maybe if you have more money to offer on a larger project he'll follow through. read more

I received James' info from a realtor friend, as he was on a list of preferred vendors, JUST AS HE SHOULD BE! James answered my call within the first few rings, was extremely polite, well-spoken and more importantly, he listened to the details of the project I needed completed (install a drop in kitchen sink). His price quote was right on target and he was available on the date and time that worked for me. As expected, he arrived promptly at our scheduled appointment time! While working, James revealed to me that he has been in the construction/contracting business basically his entire life, and his work shows this! I mentioned to him that I had a secondary project (stairway chandelier install) and after he completed the kitchen sink, he moved on to the light. I was replacing the interior doors in my house on a Sat and ran into trouble. I was under a tight timeline and had no idea who to call. Jumped on Yelp and saw James' Handyman Service, great reviews, gave him a call. I described the problem I was having and the timeline constraints I was under. James offered to work on Sun, his day off, to help. Thank you James! James called Sun morning and said he would be there early. He showed up on time and got to work. He worked door to door and got them all working properly. I've had trouble in the past finding an honest, dependable handyman, no longer! James is now my go to person for all repairs. The two stars is for poor communication in scheduling the job. When I first contacted James, he got back to me right away and said he'd be able to get the job done either that week or the next week. This was great news, since I had a time-sensitive project (which I told him). Then he progressively got less responsive with trying to schedule the job. Four days later he finally confirmed he couldn't get to it until the following week. Ok, still within the time frame. Now he's been completely unresponsive. I needed this done before some travel, and now I'll have to wait a few weeks before I can try to get someone else. Just once I'd like to find a contractor that can take 2 seconds to turn down a job because he doesn't have time, rather than stringing someone along. read more

Did great work for me previously and was a real nice guy, now I can't get him to respond to me. Seems like he's more of a contractor now. I also tried contacting him about six months ago to do some work and he told me he was tied up with a big remodeling project. I think you have to make up your mind if you want to be a handyman or a contractor. Or at least communicate with people. read more

Unreliable & uncommunicative means best to avoid. Unfortunately I contacted James based on previous good reviews to perform two small tasks at a rental property - a decision i regret. I contacted him 2.5 weeks before the dates my tenant wanted to have work performed and was reassured that he would be able to make it out. Followed up a week before the anticipated work day and was again reassured that he would be there. Come the day, not only does he not show, but also does not respond on his phone. Reliability and responsiveness are the two most important aspects any contractor can have and without them a contractor is worthless. I had 2 busted door jams, and about 4 or 5 interior doors that needed replacing. I had gotten multiple quotes from other places, but when I was referred to James by a friend he gave me a quote that was HALF price of the other places! He came and started work that weekend (I work during the week) and got right to it. He and his partner for that job worked very very fast and had all of the work done that day! They actually were supposed to stay longer to ensure the quality was top notch, but I had somewhere to be that evening so I told them it looked fine and they left. After I had gotten to using the doors and such for a while, I noticed that there were things that I was not completely happy about. I told James what I had found, and he came back over at NO EXTRA CHARGE and fixed everything for me to my satisfaction! Great work, fast work, and at an unbeatable price.
