Had an appointment for a men's haircut. I received a call the morning of stating the stylist was unavailable, but I could be seen about 30 minutes later by another stylist. That seemed ok to me. Upon arrival I checked in, was greeted by the assistant who washed my hair. Then upon be greeted by stylist, I asked for a #1 clip on the sides/back, and cut on top (not too complicated). She told me she doesn't do clippers, only scissor cuts, but she would get it short for me. I agreed (big mistake). She cut my hair, and once finished I went ahead and checked out. I wasn't too thrilled with it though. I wasn't until I got to the car, that I really noticed how awful it really looked. I went onto the Supercuts app, checked in; and drove the 10 minutes to get there, and had them fix it. I can't understand why they would assigned me to someone who doesn't know how to cut men's hair (doesn't use a clipper! Really?). I'll never return, as I think it was all about the money. read more

James Griffith Salon is by far the best salon in Venice, and it's surrounding areas. All of their stylists are expertly trained and extremely knowledgeable in both coloring and cutting. From the moment you walk in the door, you are greeted by name and checked in for your appointment. You are then escorted to your stylist's chair, where the true magic begins. Not only do the stylists listen to you intently, they come up with a plan for your hair, based on your input and their expertise, and begin the process of transforming your hair into exactly what you asked for. In addition to quality hair care, they also provide a professional, relaxing ambience to enjoy while they work. In my opinion, James Griffith is so far above and beyond any of its peers in the area, it's like comparing apples and oranges. read more

Another complaint on scheduling and cancellation fee (see others here). At my last appointment about a month ago, I stood at their receptionist desk and scheduled my appointment for today at 1pm. Got a call today a little after 11am asking where I was. Explained my appt. was at 1pm and no, I cannot come in now because I'm on a call for work. A few minutes later, got a voicemail asking if I can come in at noon, completely disregarding the fact I told her I was on a conference call, and telling me if I don't, the salon will charge me a cancellation fee. Obviously, I cannot come in at noon. JGS just lost a new customer, who would have been there every 4-6 weeks due to a cancellation fee that's insignificant to their revenues. AFTER SALON'S RESPONSE: Your staff member told me my 1pm appointment was for a blowout and 11am for color. Who makes separate appointments? You get your blowout after the color is done. You obviously messed up. I put the 1pm appt in my calendar at the time it was made while I was standing in your salon. Why would I get color at 11 and then waste time sitting around for a 1pm blowout? Stop lying. You obviously just squeezed someone else in at my expense. read more

Despite booking weeks in advance, my stylist wasn't available, the day of my appointment. They notified me a mere hours before my arrival. The salon wanted to rescheduled my appointment without an apology. I said I would call back because I was extremely frustrated. When I called to discuss options, Maddie, the "person in charge," simply stated that my style wasn't available. I asked if they could call another stylist to take my appointment. Apparently this was not an option. Their website states a cancellation charge for full service, will be done if I had cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice, yet they didn't even apologize or give any consideration. Very unprofessional! I'd advise others to avoid this salon and explore other options. Save yourself the trouble and find a more reliable place. ***WARING*** Please make sure you understand their cancelation policy!!!!! I had a very disappointing experience with James Griffin Salon in Venice FL. I understand the need for cancellation policies, but they charged me $80.00 to move my appointment from 11:45 to 10:00 on the same day! Instead of being reasonable or even discussing the situation, the charge was unwarted. The lack of transparency and empathy was really frustrating. I wont be returning and can't recommend this salon to anyone who values clear communication and fair treatment! read more

I am new to the area and so happy to have found James Griffith Salon (Aveda). Steve is an excellent stylist! I have very thick hair and he cut and layered it perfectly. It's the best haircut I have gotten is 63 years. The whole team was welcoming and professional. Great place - highly recommend. read more

While Kacy tried being helpful and even said she was able to provide services, she called me and said they changed their mind. This most definitely has become a snow bird salon. It's hard to have a consistent stylist. During snow bird season, stylists are booked up for months. It's hard to keep the color and cuts consistent. Always having to rotate stylists and not ALL stylists are created equal. I will be searching for a new salon that appreciates having loyal clients not a rotating door. read more

Some of the worst customer service I've ever witnessed in a salon. I had four different stylists here over a two year period. One was afraid of her own shadow - which does not instill confidence for the client. One was bored with life and not really even looking at my head as she worked, one was a student, who was fine, and one was a newbie young man. They never call back when they say they will. They actually try to get out of doing anything other than a foil highlight. Their stories and answers are not the truth - it's a salon where they believe it's their way or the highway...and the customer is always wrong. Even when that customer leaves 30% tips. I just plain stopped coloring my hair due to the fact they are so bad. Oh! And they allow little, unattended children to run around! Relaxing? No. read more

First, if I was only rating my stylist.... she'd get 5+ stars. Casey is excellent.She listens and is extremely skilled. I've literally never had a stylist that can do my hair better than i can myself. Highly recommend her. The salon runs like a top, and that is no easy task. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because the absolute caustic smell that I'm greeted with every single time I go. It's an Aveda salon... one expects to be greeted with the smell of plants/flowers, not angry perm smell. Please do something about it. That literally is the only reason I would ever look elsewhere - I don't know if it's faulty air ventilation or what, but it's awful. I can't be the only one this bothers.... Fix that issue and you'd earn more than 5 stars. read more

This salon is amazing! Everyone from the person that answered the phone to the receptionist to the stylist are so friendly and nice, and go out of their way! I had a bleach out with Haley. She is the best I have ever experienced. She truly is the color queen if you have blonde hair! I had a haircut from Kayla and she did an outstanding job as well. Horrible!!! I have never yelped before, but i am shocked at the unprofessional behavior. Between Sarasota and Venice locations, I have had 8 stylist in 14 months. Chelsea decided to call out on a Saturday. Who does that? And Sofia was dreadful. Then another cancelation and another cancelation. Any recommendations for an actual professional salon? This is an Aveda Salon??? Really??? What a disappointment. My first clue should have been the rescheduling of my appointment. First impression walking in - clients sitting in the reception area with their color processing! How incredibly unprofessional. Not exactly the relaxing experience of beverages, hot towels, massages pre-appointment amenities I've had at every other Aveda Salon I've visited. Adding insult to injury I went home with dark brown color stains (and I didn't have color service) on my clothes which no one mentioned until my husband noticed it when I got home. Granted they paid the cleaning bill but it did not come out of the back of a linen blouse. Never again. read more

Unfortunately, I had to cancel because I was able to get in at the other James Griffith salon closer to me. I have been to this salon twice and have been very happy with both cut and color. I have had Ashley who I find to be professional and listened to my requests. When I returned a second time she was able to fine-tune both the color and the cut based on my experience. I find it very reasonable for the amount of time that is spent there ($80 for cut and color over a nearly two hour period), but I have to admit that I am used to San Francisco prices and don't know how this compares to SW Florida. It is not a particularly relaxing place as there are many stylists and it gets quite busy, but it is very professional and I will continue to return here. read more

I had the pleasure of meeting Jamie Guididas today for foiling, haircut & glaze. I was my first time at James Griffith & I found the whole experience to be nothing but the best! Jamie was friendly & professional & new exactly the look I was going for. I'm 54, very blond with those dosh darn grey hairs peaking thru & I left a cool blonde with a sleek classy blow dry. What a fantastic experience! I am new to the area, and I have to admit that before I went to the salon I was thinking that it may be a bit like one of those "snooty" salons. James Griffith Salon was just the opposite! The young ladies at the front desk were so friendly and welcoming. My stylist, Katie Bryan, greeted me with a big, sweet smile, and my pleasant experienced continued throughout my entire stay. Katie did a fantastic job on my hair! I had an amazing experience at this salon! Having just moved, finding a new stylist has been tedious and I've missed my old salon. Booking and appointment was and they even sent out a reminder via text (super handy). I came in for a haircut after receiving a horrible haircut from a different salon in the area. My stylist was so friendly and professional. They use high end tools and products and definitely keep up with their education. They offer water, coffee, etc. the salon itself is a gorgeous space in a great location. It is up to date and very clean and peaceful. I love how it is laid out with two different levels. I felt like the prices were amazing, even for the high end products. I spent 25 on an amazing haircut and another 20 on product that will definitely last me a while. Let me start off by saying that this is one of the better salons in Venice. However, they are in the midst of redecorating. The ambiance is impacted. Yes, I do go in primarily for a great color and cut, but also to have a soothing and relaxing time while I am there. Very close quarters and crowded and noisy. Not relaxing at all. As for the color and style - excellent. So when I find out that they have completed their redecorating, I will go in again and I will update my review at that time. If you don't mind the noise and close quarters, you will love this place! read more

He seems to treat his staff well and all the stylists are busy and appear very happy. I simply can't ask for anything more as a customer.
