Went in for neck lipo. He recommended Necktite as a way better alternative. (But it was more expensive). Said i'd get better results, be better for me. It was "new" so there was little info besides celebrities encouraging it. It gave 0 results. The recovery was awful. He made a few other terrible irresponsible comments and I'll be forever embarassed of going to him and letting him sell me something different. read more

Too embarrassed to tell it all but i gave dr. Fernau another chance after he completely left me deformed and messed me up and so many other way tryna get him to fix it instead he some how talked me into another surgery that was overpriced and was supposed to include a free second one and he was also supposed to remove my skin tags and which he did not do any of what he promised completely did touch those mess up the main surgery leaving huge scars and deformed plus more intents like the other surgery and when it was time to discuss fixing it. He tried to talk me out more money to do it. He really overcharged me to mess me up in multiple areas I wish and should've got a lawyer and others involved, but I didn't cause I was so embarrassed in the fact that I let him do it again for way too much money is way worse.!!!! $12,000 for lipo 360 and looks like lipo 180 was done. Surgery was 4 years ago in 2021, not under general anesthesia. Thought the lumpiness under my navel was a seroma at first. They tried to drain it a couple weeks after surgery and I was concerned if it was still fat or will I develop fibrosis. Well it was left over fat. At my follow up after 6 months I complained of the lack of evenness, cannula indent on one side of my stomach. Was told I'm not healed and by a year I will see my results. At my 1 year follow up I was told I can pay $5k to get more lipo and bodytite. No way would I give more money. read more

Rhinoplasty and septoplasty 2024- he took out too much cartilage out of tip and left side collapsed. Refused to schedule revision, avoided calls. I finally went into his office and demanded he fix it. He said he was leaving practice in PA and this would be his last surgery before going to WV. He had to take cartilage from the right ear to implant where he took too much from left nasal tip. Her ear then got infected. Total nightmare. Still has a slight divot and bruising but giving it time. Saw ENT at UPMC and they said he also took out part of left turbinate which is no longer done... read more

I paid for a facelift, hoping to improve my appearance by reducing fine lines. Instead, the procedure left me deeply harmed. He damaged the nerve in my left ear, causing permanent deafness. He told me that I was in the operating room for 14 hours and that I had been given Lorazepam, which led to seizure-like symptoms. According to him, he recorded me during that time and later sent me the video. In the end, no facelift was performed; instead, he said that I was given Botox. Dr Fernau, Sheila, and the entire staff did a beautiful job on my surgery. My recovery time was short and in two weeks the implants felt like I was born with them. I told him what I expected and they exceeded those expectations. They took into consideration my very active lifestyle, and were honest about how big I could go while still looking natural, which was my end goal. My girlfriends loved the work so much a few have set up consultations for other surgeries Dr Fernau offers, and one has set up a consultation for corrective work on her breast implants. I plan on going back in the future for a few more enhancements. Dr Fernau did a lip lift on me. His team is great. The lip lift only looks ok. My nostrils are wider as a result unfortunately. I was very upset but I thought probably he could fix it. When I tried to discuss it with him he just kept saying oh everything looks great. I do not recommend him. I feel like once he had my money he didn't care how the results were. read more

I recently had a rhinoplasty through Dr. Fernau and his medical staff. During my research process, he appeared in my searches time after time and the reviews spoke highly of his professionalism. When I consulted with other surgeon offices, they rushed me through phone calls, were unprofessional, or simply seemed to want my business, like I was a "number," not a patient. On my first phone call to Dr. Fernau's office, the receptionist answered my questions and took the time to describe her experiences with me. At my consultation, Dr. Fernau spent 2 hours with me, going through his experiences, answering all of my questions and allaying my fears. He discussed thoroughly the medical, cosmetic, and lifestyle benefits to the procedure, but ultimately left the decision up to me. He never pushed for my business, but was excited to potentially be a part of my decision to go through with the procedure. After the first consult, I was in. I was most excited that I would breathe better than I ever had in my life. This was a problem that I did not know was so bad until I noticed how improved my breathing had become post-procedure. A few days after he performed the operation, I breathed in through my nose, a full breathe, for the first time since I can remember. And as the days go by, my energy level is steadily increasing, which I can attribute to my ability to now get full oxygen through my nose. As far as the surgery itself, Dr. Fernau has incredible bedside manners and took care of me from start to finish. In fact, since the procedure, he has answered his phone, day or night, with any concerns or questions I have. Even in my post-op appointments, he took well over an hour with me to discuss how happy he was with the outcome and to answer all the questions I had for the future. Not only is Doctor Fernau a warm and lovely person, he really LISTENS to you. He is a world class surgeon, but his office, as plushy as it is, operates more like a friendly, grass roots family business than a sophisticated practice. His staff treats you like an old friend or family member. He fixed my carpal tunnel syndrome, which was so uncomfortable that it kept me awake at night; I've had absolutely NO problems ever since. And his more aesthetic work is sensitive and brilliant; patients who go to him, rather than looking like they've been altered with overdone, "cookie cutter" beauty, look like themselves, only better. Terrible customer service! They don't respect our time! I had a procedure scheduled for over a month. I took almost a week off work for this procedure because I was assuming I was going to look off for a few days. The day of my procedure approaches. I live over an hour from their office, so I was leaving early for my appointment. They call me after I am on the road for about 20 minutes, telling me that the doctor won't be in for my appointment, but they might be able to "squeeze me in" later on the day. Ok that's fine. I go home and wait for them to call and tell me when. They call back about an hour later and tell me that the doctor could see me, BUT they don't actually have the product in that is part of my procedure due to a snow storm. My mother lives about 20 minutes from their office and didn't have any snow, but ok?? They left it at that. Offered me nothing for the inconvenience. I wasted my time, gas, and spent a week off of work for nothing. So yeah, they could say that I never saw them... but it was because of their irresponsible scheduling. read more

There's even more details but we'll give this much; had to have TWO procedures because Dr. Fernau did an AWFUL job with my rhinoplasty. My nose was crooked after the first surgery and barely looked different. He had me believe that taping it for 6 months would help. It didn't. Underwent a second surgery to fix it..wasn't crooked anymore but not at all what he said, and showed me it would look like. I apparently had a permanent stitch placed at the tip of my nose which caused a very pointed uneven tip. Over time as the swelling subsided, my breathing in my right nostril was terrible. Went to a different surgeon to have all of these issues fixed (e.g., breathing, aesthetics. etc.) who informed me of the permanent stitch, said I barely had any bone left on the right side of my nose, and my breathing was practically 100% occluded on the right. I cannot review the doctor because I never got to see him. My review is of the organization of the practice. When I called to schedule my consultation I was told that I would have to be in early because the doctor was leaving that day to travel. I scheduled my appointment for 9 AM. There were patients in the waiting room and all of them had wonderful things to say about the doctor however at 10:05, I still had not been called back to see the doctor. My time is valuable and when i asked for my money back because i had to leave, i received no apology. Awesome surgeon! Has a very caring bedside manner. He is very meticulous about his work. I've had several procedures and trust his skills as a surgeon. Staff is caring too! We found Dr. Fernau and his reviews and word of mouth were so good. I had terrible scars on my face, back and legs. He removed them and I cannot see any incision lines. It changed my life! I want to wear a bathing suit again. He also had me come in for free laser treatments which is why my scars are invisible. Nobody else in Pittsburgh offered this treatment.
