I had another company come to see what the issue was and the tube from the fan to the attic exhaust had never been connected. In fact they found the old fan just tossed to the side and left in the attic. One of the fan's flapper would not open because the flapper was too large for the tube and they never adjusted that. Also none of the exhaust pipes had even been connected to the outside. They were just vented into the attic space.

He just moved my dishwasher circuit over to share with the kitchen lights and created a 30-50-50-30 quad circuit that's not GFCI protected for my new stove's outlet. the quad is shared with my dryer, which was not gfci protected since the circuit was installed before that was required. Now my dryer is scorching my clothes and I've been told that I shouldn't use my appliances until an electrician can come take a look. HAh. Oh, also, he didnt' get a permit for the work, either.. I'm guessing because it wouldn't have passed inspection or maybe he thought that he's smart and everyone else is dumb so he can do what he wants. Great. What a total scum bag. Not to mention he tacked on $800 to the bill from the original estimate saying that it was for the GFCI breaker and the additional cost for an outlet instead of it being hardwired (which is MORE expensive) and then he charged me $170 to install the cord to the stove, which I provided. I paid it but planned to discuss with the company to have it refunded, but alas they lost the estimate when they issued an invoice and I can't access it, either. Anyway, wow. What a total creep show.

He acted professionally, and he even let me watch him install the new breakers. My only minor concern is he only hand tightened the screws "good and tight", instead of tightening them according to the 36(inch pounds) specification that was written on the breaker installation instructions, and on the new breakers themselves, when he installed the new breakers. Karlin said that this is the common practice among electricians and that very few, if any, bother to follow the inch pound torque standard when tightening circuit breakers. Also, it would have required use of a special expensive inch pound torque wrench that must undergo annual inspection and certification. (What a pay cut! Ouch!) These facts for now allay my concern enough that I can see myself hiring this firm again to do electrical work for me in the future. I say this especially since Karlin was an easy person to work with.
