I'm really disappointed with our experience here. When we first walked in, we were greeted and initially assisted without any issues. However, once we sat down, things completely shifted. Our sales associate brought out two sets of ring options -- and then essentially disappeared. There was no walkthrough of metal options for men's or women's bands, no explanation of customization choices, and no guidance at all. We were just handed rings and left to figure it out ourselves. I kept having to ask, "Do you have more? Are there more options? Can I see more please?" It felt like pulling teeth just to see additional selections. At times, it genuinely felt like he was reluctant to show us more -- almost as if he just wanted to rush the process, get the order submitted, and move on. That's how it came across. What made it worse was noticing other couples being shown a much wider selection and having options thoroughly explained by their sales associates. They were being engaged with, educated, and guided through the process. We weren't even told additional options were available unless we specifically asked. The overall experience felt very cold and hands-off. I will say another associate kindly checked in on us and asked if we needed anything, which we appreciated -- and honestly, looking back, I wish we had accepted the help. But we wanted to give our assigned SA the opportunity to do his job. On top of that, everything had to be processed online, as they don't take payments in-store. We went ahead and placed our orders, but three hours later, we were still bothered by how disengaged and transactional the experience felt -- so we canceled. I'd rather spend my money somewhere that values customer experience, especially for something as meaningful as wedding rings. It's unfortunate because James Allen was always on my shortlist for wedding jewelry. After this experience -- and seeing similar reviews -- I won't be returning. I just hope the refund process is handled promptly. read more

I finally received my bracelet after it being in their hands for 5-6 weeks when the intiial estimate was 2.5 weeks. They remade the bracelet with the clasp that clips underneath. The quality is yet to be determined, we'll see in the coming weeks. The term "upper managment" should be taken very lightly, as they have no control over anything it seems. They have no say on timeline, they also have not established a solid line of communication with their jewelers. The jewelers do not respond to upper management messages, it takes nearly 2 weeks to get a response for a "hard deadline" and even when the hard deadline is given, the date gets pushed out. I also have had a new person email/call me each time from upper management team. James allen has filtered out my 1 star review of the bracelet. They recently added a 5 star review so I know they are reviewing the influx of reviews and only post positive ones. read more

So VERY UNCOMFORTABLE with this merchant. I received email of a 30% discount (ICEICEBABY30) & tried to place the order online but was not able to apply the discount. I called the customer service phone number 877 826-9866 & the representative stated that I should place the order, stay on the line with her, & she would immediately adjust the order to reflect the 30% discount. I placed the order, & asked for the confirmation email of the discounted order. She then said that a check for the discount amount would be mailed to me within several weeks. That was different from what I was led to believe, so while she was on the phone I immediately canceled the order with her before it could ship. She said it was canceled, but refused to provide a cancelation # & claimed I would receive a cancelation email within 2 days. That made me super uncomfortable, for a large online retailer to operate in the manner & I worried it could be some sort of trick. I had to dispute the charge immediately with my credit card company to make sure they could not gain access to the funds. My plan is to never ever ever deal with this merchant again. read more

We're leaving for our wedding this Friday, and when I contacted customer service, they told me nothing could be done before the wedding and offered to fix it afterward. The representative basically said, "sorry, it is what it is for the wedding". TLDR; We paid for a platinum ring and they sent us a white gold one, and argued it was really platinum! Horrible experience for what could have been a spectacular engagement ring. I ordered and paid for a platinum engagement ring. The appraisal that arrived with the ring also stated that it was platinum. I had no reason not to believe that the ring I ordered was the one I received. After proposing to my now fiancee with the ring, we inspected it in order to get it insured. There was a stamp inside the ring indicating that it was 14K white gold, not platinum. I called James Allen, and the customer service representative non-chalantly assured me that it was a platinum ring and was merely stamped incorrectly. His level of non-chalance surprised me because either (1) James Allen inappropriately over-charged me for a platinum ring and provided a false appraisal document or (2) James Allen incorrectly stamped a platinum ring with a 14K white gold stamp. Either scenario should have triggered immediate action on the part of James Allen with a desire to correct the error, or at the very least an apology. James Allen informed me that my option was to send the ring back to them for metal testing and correction if necessary. However, at that point I did not trust James Allen to correct the error and wanted independent metal testing. After some negotiation, I was finally able to take the ring in person to a Jared store (with their approval and at their request), where the manager confirmed the ring was in fact 14K white gold. James Allen offered to correct the error, but at that point the ring held sentimental value for my fiancee since it was the one with which I proposed. I finally negotiated for James Allen to refund the cost difference and send a corrected appraisal document. This error did not strike me as a simple mistake. Ensuring that the item purchased is correctly stamped and sent with the correct appraisal paper work should be more important to James Allen than my experience suggested. The process of getting the error corrected should have been treated with more care and urgency. The non-chalance with which I was addressed makes me wonder if this is something that happens often. My fiancee had her eyes on a matching wedding band from James Allen, but needless to say that we will not be giving them any more business. read more

This is important because the transaction experience leaves MUCH to be desired. After coming in person spontaneously (after a workout) with my now-bride-to-be to select the right one, I encountered numerous issues processing payment. It was irritating, but once it was done we were happy with the purchase. Until later that day, when I received an email from JamesAllen.com indicating that my purchase had been flagged for fraud--not by my bank--but by the jewelry store. In fact, my account had already be debited the purchase amount. The email requested I submit sensitive personal information via "a selfie" to an unsecured web portal to verify my identity in order for my custom order to be put in production. I don't provide that sort of info to a jewelry store for cyber security reasons. So I went in-person the next day to see if I could provide the necessary documentation more securely(again, this is an engagement ring, not a highly regulated purchase!) and was told that because the store is "just an extension of the website" there was no alternative. I decided to cancel the order and take my business elsewhere (still waiting for return of my money). Upon completing the cancellation, the sales associate said "yeah, I heard there were 'some people' in here yesterday." So if they weren't profiling my hispanic fiancee, they were profiling someone else. Would not recommend to anyone looking for a refined customer service experience or even a run-of-the-mill point of sale experience. read more

Excellent customer service from the moment we walked in to the moment we left. When we entered, we noticed it was real busy but we were immediately greeted with a smile by a lady named Gina. Gina explained that all the sample engagement rings are in full display in open cases so we could try anything we liked. She told us if we had any questions to please ask and she left us alone so we can examine the rings on our own without hovering over us, which I liked. We noticed that all the employees worked as a team walking around and interacting with customers as needed. When we were ready with questions, Gina was able to answer all our questions and offer recommendations. She was extremely knowledgeable and you can tell that she enjoyed what she did. She made the whole shopping experience very comfortable and I learned a lot about emerald diamonds from her. We still had to make a decision on which engagement ring to purchase so we did not buy anything at the store but overall it was a great shopping experience. This is a review of my experience at the store, I have yet to receive my rings. My husband and I went to the Georgetown store in person this afternoon to look for an upgrade of my engagement ring and wedding band, as well as to add an anniversary band for our upcoming 20th anniversary. The store was fantastic, they have a huge selection of rings to try on. I've been looking at the website for months so it was nice to see the rings in person. The salesperson was great, she showed me the rings I was interested in, as well as suggested other ones she thought I might like, as well as matching bands. She was patient, gave us time, and was incredibly helpful. In addition, once I had made my selection I mentioned that I thought I had a discount code in my email and she said she had already put in a code for 30% off. It ended up being $2,000 cheaper than we expected. All in all it was a great experience and I highly recommend this store since you can see and try on the settings with a stone in place. I am looking forward to receiving my three new rings in the next month and will update on the product as well. read more
