We felt every sub contractor Don utilized on our project from that painter through completion was clean, timely and fantastic. We did a small addition (closet, bathroom, laundry room) which required removing a dead tree, retaining walls, doors & windows, roofing, siding, insulation, plumbing electrical and tile work. We never had an issue passing inspection. Since Don lives on the mountain, he was helpful to us as newbies. He recommended product choices based on durability, etc. He offered remedies to the aging home's prior projects that weren't done safely or correctly. When we discovered that a gopher had loaded the existing bathroom wall with tons of dirt, he had a solution and expert to remedy the situation. As other issues arose in our aging home, he offered options without sales pressure as to what would serve us best in the long run, always making the final decision our choice. Safety and durability seem to be top priorities. We appreciated how he guided us through the process. The quality of his workmanship, the timely meetings and billing schedules all made for a relatively seam free small project, even when mountain living & mother nature created challenges.

They also opened up two doorways between our living room and dining room which gave a much more open floorplan vibe to the house, and allowed us to take better advantage of our great views. They updated a window in our primary bedroom and put a half lite door in a guest bedroom -- both of which let in much more light and access to the views. Dan is savvy about building and trustworthy. Junior and Tony do solid work, they're personable and respectful. Overall we're very pleased with the results and the cost was reasonable. I got a couple of local quotes from businesses off of yelp, but they were so high & unreasonable & couldn't even start my project for months. I reached out to California Builders & they had someone draining my pool within days, after 4 days, my pool went from ruin to what now looks like a resort pool & for super reasonable pricing. I contacted CA Builders after one of my front retaining walls was knocked over from the snow storm…read morelast year. I had Chris out for a quote and he was able to facetime and walk through the job site remotely and give an initial bid. I also had him check around the house for any other damage as well as some deck re-enforcements. Chris uncovered quite a bit of dry rot on the backside of the property and it was clear it needed to be addressed asap. Within a week his team had ripped out all the old decking/ledger board/trim and replaced everything up to code. It went so smooth, I also asked him to re-adjust our heavy custom wood doors that have gone out of whack over the years and needed all new weatherstripping. I also had him replace the front light fixtures and build custom replicas of the existing wood mounts. The wall was rebuilt perfectly and looks better than before. I wish I would have done the other side. Overall I was extremely happy with Chris and team, his communication level is A+. He documented everything with photos, texts and calls along the way. The team was on site until completion and everything was wrapped up in a few weeks. My doors are like new again, wall looks great and all the dry rot has been addressed. I'll definitely be using California Builders again.

As a licensed Painting Contractor for 30+ years (C-33, now retired) licensure is important to me as it provides some welcome peace of mind when others are working on the property. Steve provided us an estimate and written contract, each of which spelled out the full scope of the work to be performed, as well as the cost and payment schedule. He showed up on time every morning, and worked steadily throughout the day. He completed the job within the timeframe promised, and thoroughly cleaned the job site. The workmanship was excellent, and he was exceptionally pleasant and professional to work with. The price was quite reasonable, and we were more than happy to pay it!
