I love Jamaican Kitchen! Everything we've had has been delicious - the jerk pork, jerk chicken, oxtail, fries, wraps, patties. etc. I always get a couple of patties to bring home as well. I also appreciate that they have legitimately spicey hot sauce. It's a very casual restaurant with lots of seating. Service can be a bit slow but it's worth the wait. If their hours were longer then I would come here more often, but I get that work-life balance is important (it's probably better for my wallet, honestly). read more

Who knew there would be a warm ray of Caribbean sunshine in Kamloops? Denese, the owner of Jamaican Kitchen, is such a lovely person and runs her restaurant with great hospitality. My friend and I were on our way to Revelstoke and decided to stop for lunch. A quick search online revealed Jamaican Kitchen as a highly rated restaurant just 10 minutes off the highway. If you're on a time crunch (which we were), a 10 minute detour is not ideal... but the food here made it worth it. We got the brown stew chicken and curry chicken, both lunch plates that came with rice, a johnny cake, and veggies. The food came out piping hot and full of flavour; it really hit the spot on a cold December day. At ~$18 a plate, it was a really decent price, especially since I couldn't finish my meal and ended up taking leftovers for later. Denese came by to check on us regularly and just had such a lovely presence. I'm so glad we got to find this little gem in the middle of Kamloops, and I hope you get to find it too. read more

This place must have changed since the earlier reviews. I was so disappointed by this place. I started with curry chicken soup. I did not get a curry soup. I got tap water with boiled veg, two hunks of chicken, and no seasoning. There was no heat. The hot sauce on the table was nice, but it also clearly says on it "refrigerate after opening." I also had the Jam Down Chef Salad. Garden salad with smoked jerk pork, jerk chicken, cheddar cheese, boiled egg, ranch mango dressing. I ordered it with no mango because I wanted to taste the jerk seasoning on it's own. I really wish I had the sauce, maybe it would have helpes. The jerk seasoning itself is "okay" but is nothing to write home about. It lacked an explosion of flavor. Instead it tastes like a poor spice mix rub. Waitress was super nice though. read more

We wanted to try the ramen restaurant on the plaza but they were under renovations. Hence, this was the next place that interested me. I have not eaten Jamaican food since I was actually at Jamaica. Their daily special was good. Full of spices and sauce. I also ordered a chicken patty but that was not as tasty as the special. The lady forgot to put the patty order in so that took awhile to arrive as well. My only complaint is that they would not serve tap water citing it was a take out joint and had only bottle drinks for sale. read more

Kind of an unassuming place that will surprise you with fantastic food. This is one of those restaurants that looks a little strange because it moved into a place without renovating too much. In this case it still feels like an old diner or cafe with some Jamaican ambiance added. The menu is fairly simple but don't let that fool you. The flavours are magnificent and everything I've tried on the menu is a joy to the senses. Even the salad, which is something I probably never would have ordered. Thankfully my friend did because oh my gosh it's one of the best salads I've ever had. Jamaican burger? Incredible. Breakfast? Spectacular. And the classics like roti and jerk chicken? Terrific. Doesn't look like much from the outside and the decor is utilitarian but the food is fabulous! Which is all that counts in the end. Breakfast is equally good and very reasonable prices. Went here with a buddy for lunch. Typical hole-in the wall industrial diner. Very limited menu with mainly burgers, sandwiches, and 4 Jamaican options. We opted for the special that included chicken kebab and chicken curry $11.50. Very glad we did. It was very saucy yet very tasty. My wife and I stopped in at The Jamaican Kitchen for lunch. My wife ordered the pea soup and a johnny cake and she loved them both. I ordered the Jamaican Club Sandwich and the pea soup. The pea soup was really tasty. The sandwich had too much sauce with the cheese making it a little difficult to deal with but it was tasty enough. The pickle that was served up on top of my sandwich was on it's 3rd or 4th day of being served. I have never seen a pickle like that anywhere, much less a restaurant. It was very off-putting to look at. If I am ever served a pickle like that anywhere again I will stand up and walk out. That just about ruined my lunch and I won't deal with it again.
