Huge portions, let's start with that. Easily two meals for one. I don't know if we lucked out for being after lunch rush, but it was heaped in. They ARE open Sunday, contrary to some of the earlier reviews. Cash only. It was pretty hot in there, but food is nicely packed for take-away. They have a fridge of unique Jamaican sodas. I drove past this place each day on the way to work and I've been meaning to stop in for the longest time. Today was that day! I went with the jerk chicken and steamed vegetables. The chicken was very tender, and almost fell off the bone. The jerk chicken definitely has a sneaky spice to it that amplifies throughout the meal in the best way. Establishment itself has a counter you order at and a 4 to 5 tables that one could sit at. The owner of the Salish matter is super friendly. The food was prepared very quickly and prices are very reasonable. I was impressed with the portions of each serving, one order of jerk chicken could definitely feed two adults. Overall I was very impressed with Jamaican Thymes and they will become a staple of the take-out rotation. Despite is definitely one of Worcester's gems. The food here is absolutely delicious and freshly made daily! I love ordering the oxtail rice combo here. It's not spicy so it's enjoyable for me. If you want a spicy kick, go for the Jerk chicken, my god it was spicy for me but still delicious! The beef patty is spicy but sooo delicious, flaky, meaty and not greasy. I've tried a few places around the area and this is the one I go back consistently for food quality, portion, price, service and hygiene. You can tell owner puts a lot of love in the food. No frills good place to eat. There are about four small tables inside. I actually didn't see a menu because I was craving jerk chicken. The owner is very sweet and even remembered our last order! We arrived Thursday by 6pm and only curry goat, oxtail, and curried chicken were available since everything else sold out and it was pretty quiet. We came back on Friday for lunch and got to try the jerk chicken! Lunch was busier and they sold out of beef Pattie's. The jerk is a wetter jerk than I'm used to and not as brown as the previous photos but still delicious! Juicy and great spice. The orders come in small, medium, or large size and it really just pertains the amount of meat in the dish. A small has the least amount of meat but a very generous amount of rice and peas and side of cabbage. May be good for someone on a budget ($10.95!). The prices were very fair in my opinion. meh spot. i love Jamaican food and eat it often but this place was underwhelming. i called in my order and was told it would be 20 minutes for rice and peas. i said no problem. he twice offered me white rice instead and i said no, because who eats white rice with jerk chicken? i arrives 20 minutes later and ended up waiting nearly an hour total for my food to be done. there were two people in front of me who also waited a while and they were offered a free soda or extra oxtail and i wasn't offered anything. odd. to add to it the cabbage was hard and not tender and there was very little edible jerk chicken and most of it was hard. the only good thing was the rice and peas which wasn't surprising considering it took damn near an hour to make. no apology for the wait, no attempt to offer something free. will not return. read more

I decided to call in an order of jerk chicken. I noticed that the number listed on Yelp is not the right number. That number takes you to their voicemail every time. I searched the restaurant on Google and received the correct number: +1 (508) 373-2944. This number is also posted on the white board inside but the old number is on the building sign. Anywho, once I called the correct number, I was greeted and I placed my order. The guy who answered the phone also provided my food and rung up my purchase. He was professional and informative. He explained that the food is generally prepared once the person comes in, I guess it cooks pretty quickly. I only waited about one to two minutes and calling my order in maybe five minutes before. He said he was cooking extra jerk chicken so lucky me. A few people came in after me, the seemed to be locals. The guy/owner made it a point to greet everyone who came in and he told them what was available and what was still cooking and about how long the order would take. +2 The spicy beef patty was my spicy but it was good. The large jerk chicken cabbage and rice and peas order was good not great. The jerk chicken was really salty. I've eaten Jamaica foods all of my life. I haven't had jerk chicken that salty before. Also the chicken was marinated a little too long. Some pieces of chicken were cured sort of like when you season pork ribs with salt for too long and how it makes the meat taste like ham. The rice and peas was really good and the cabbage was cool. I'm hoping that this was just a bad batch of jerk. I'm willing to try this place again. I'd try another item fro the menu. read more

This is some of the best jerk chicken I have had. It has a legit slow heat and it never over powers the fall off the bone chicken. The steamed vegetables cooked perfectly. Stopped in again today. I have that habit of wanting to try something new but just staying with what was great last time so I was afraid I'd have the oxtail again because it was so good last time. It was a short conversation with the kind counter man I just sighed and I tried the goat curry and it was just as good. This time he asked if I wanted to play some of the juice the meat is cooked in over the rice and I said yes. Also had the cabbage side order again which was great. Once again intended to bring about half of it home for another meal so I ordered a large but once again just loved it so much I kept eating until it was only a handful or two left. Apparently this awesome hole in the wall is 2 minutes from my home and how have I not tried it yet I have no idea. I'm so glad I did end up trying it because the food tasted great and with large portions! I thought I've had jerk chicken in the past but I guess they were all lies because Jamaica Thymes jerk chicken is the real deal. This was definitely some good food. Now as a fair warning if you're looking for a sit down restaurant this is not the place this is a takeout place primarily for good food at home. Personally I have the curry goat because I've actually never had it. Or never had the chance to have it anyway and it was honestly delicious. It's understandable that people from this city wouldn't know what better Jamaican food tastes like. However, this is not up to par at all. If you want to be safe and still get a decent meal, order the jerk chicken. Do not order the oxtail, you'll get like 5 pieces of hard oxtail that haven't even been stewed properly. REAL jerk chicken. It is my favorite here. And the curry chicken is so good! The beef patties are the perfect ratio of spicy meat and flaky goodness. Funky hours and availability varies because everything is made fresh that morning. The rice and beans are always cooked perfectly. Everything is served hot. I'm writing this review after one visit with a group of friends. The food is really really good! We had a variety of dishes and it was cooked with care, ample portions and the flavors were tremendous. I had the jerk chicken and it was beautifully spicy, tender, moist and overall delicious. The rice and peas were perfectly prepared and plentiful. The steamed cabbage with carrots were flavorful and perfectly cooked. They have the dishes I expected on the menu - oxtail, jerk chicken, patties, curries, salt fish, plantains - most of the very popular dishes we see here in the US. But I have to give a three star review because they don't have all that they say they have. Only about half the dishes or drinks listed are actually in the restaurant. I ordered the brown stew chicken and 20 or more minutes later they told me they didn't have it. They need to edit their menu heavily or start making what they say they are making. If you can be flexible and patient about what you are going to order, get ready for a great Jamaican lunch or dinner. read more

We came here for lunch. When we walked in there was no one there. It's a small place with a few Jamaican themed pictures on the wall. We waited a good 5-7 minutes and still nothing so we turned around and started going to the car. A young guy came from behind us and asked us to come back because he was outside and didn't see us. He apologized and even though we were off to a bad start we really wanted to try the place especially considering I've never had any Jamaican food before other than a beef patty. We go back in and he starts playing music and he was so polite and funny all the bad vibes went away. The food looked good so when we went out to the car we decided to try a bite. Our intentions were to bring it back home to Southbridge. It was so good we didn't stop eating it. The wife loved her oxtail but wished they gave her a little more considering she got a large plate. She almost finished her plate. I got the jerk chicken and it was so spicy it was burning the whole inside of my mouth but it was so tasty and full of flavor I couldn't stop eating it until I forced myself to put the plate down to save it for later. I'm not too fond of eating in my car. I got a Jamaican cola to wash it down which was wicked good too. I really have no complaints of this place.
