A small town gem hidden in Carnegie. This was our first time visiting this hole in the wall and it was definitely worth it. The gentleman working behind the counter was very courteous and friendly, going so far as to give us the Vegetable Pakora and a Mango Kesari (the latter of which isn't even on their menu) to try for free. He was nothing but helpful throughout our visit, including moving us to a larger table to accommodate how large our order was. read more

Been here a few times, but the food is consistently good! We had the pakora, butter chicken and lamb vindaloo! We got it a 4 or 5 spicy, and honestly for our taste could have gone spicier! We ordered online for takeout and their ordering service is so easy to use! I liked that you could upgrade to rice & naan for an extra $1. Next time we'd like to dine there because they have a nice patio area and it seems like it would be nice to just sit and chat there! read more

This restaurant is under new management and the restaurant is now called "Jalsa". The interior is nicely painted and the food and customer service is top notch! We had a perfectly lovely dinner. The spice level was spot on and everything was prepared perfectly. There is a nice mix of northern and southern specialties. We both had vegetarian dishes. Delicious but over priced for the size meal you are given. The portion sizes are so small carrying such a high price! Unfortunately for something pandemic like 1/2 cup of Chicken tikka Marsala to cost over $18 in a tango cup without rice?! I wish them well, and after 79 heading west is an ethnic food desert... I won't be going back, or ordering take out. I miss.. almost any Indian Resturant in Oakland.. portion size, quality, flavor, unique dishes.. none of that here. While staying in the Pittsburgh area a lot over the past year, I've been trying many different places... I love really good Pakistani food, and am not nearly as fond of Indian food, but I came here one night for dinner and absolutely appreciated the owner's service, as well as the food they make here! I tried several things: Vegetable Pakora - These unfortunately were sent back because they were slightly over-done, but they apologized sincerely for that and removed them from the bill. Vegetable Biryanni - Absolutely Excellent! Nice and spicy and loaded with robust, authentic flavors!! This paired with their raita was amazing!!! And wow, was it spicy!! Keema Muttar - This was decent, but was a little saucier than I prefer (and than I'm used to). The flavors were excellent! The meat was lamb and there was the slight flavor of that. But overall, it was a decent dish. Bullet Naan - I've never heard of this, so I had to try it, especially since it's made with green pepper and supposedly spicy. It was definitely spicy, but their naan was very thin. I actually prefer it thin, so I don't get filled up on bread. The only issues I've got is I eat in the traditional way, with my hands and in order to do so, you fold the naan or roti in half and then break off a piece - Well, many of these places cut it into quarters which limits ow you can break off pieces. The other huge gripe I have is that they add ghee or butter to it, thus making it a greasy mess. Aside from those issues, it tasted great. Roti - This resembled the bullet naan, but without spices, but with so much greasiness, the last slice was completely soaked and oily. The flavor was decent though. Lastly, He offered me mango lassi and I've not had lassi in probably 35 years, when I was last in Pakistan.... This lassi was very tasty and you could see and taste the fresh mango in it. Overall, this is my favorite Indian restaurant in the Pittsburgh area so far... I've tried several, but they do it the most authentic and best here. I'm genuinely surprised that I haven't written a review for Cafe Delhi yet, especially since I have lived in Carnegie for over five years now. This is one of the best spots to eat in the neighborhood and always comes to mind when folks ask for recommendations in the area. It's also a place that I immediately mention when someone asks me which Indian restaurants I like. Not only is the food top-notch and full of flavor, but the menu is very extensive. So it's super easy to explore different dishes and to try something new when you order from Cafe Delhi. One of the best things about this restaurant is that it's a tasty option no matter what kind of plans you're making. Prior to COVID, I would come here with family or friends and we would enjoy a delicious sit-down meal in the cafe. But you certainly don't have to wait for a table to enjoy their food! Since COVID I've stuck to bringing takeout meals home. And both now and BC (Before COVID), I would order from Cafe Delhi and pick up food before heading to Apis for a drink. Pro-tip: Indian food and mead can go together quite well! This isn't to say they're perfect. If you have a particularly large order you might find yourself waiting quite a while for it to be ready for pickup. Additionally, I have unfortunately ended up with food that's spicier than expected a couple of times. I don't just mean "the wussy girl ordered a spice level she couldn't handle" - that would be on me 100%. I mean that I have ordered food where the spice level isn't made clear in the menu description and/or there's no option to select the spice level at all. It's admittedly a bummer when it happens. Of course, not everyone is as sensitive to spiciness as I am, plus the food really is worth waiting for if you're not on a time crunch. I consider Cafe Delhi one of the best Indian restaurants in the Pittsburgh area and definitely recommend them, both as a sit-down and (if you're not on a tight schedule) a takeout option. read more

I came here on a Tuesday afternoon to grab lunch with a friend from out of town. Parking in Carnegie is mostly street and can be tricky depending on what time of day you are arriving so it's good to give yourself a little buffer on time. My friend and I walked in and were able to order at the cash register fairly quickly. The menu is up on the board behind the counter and we both ordered the Lamb Vindaloo with naan bread. We then were given a number and able to choose a seat in the restaurant. The setup is nice and efficient. A water pitcher was brought to our table and there were already napkins, cups, and forks on the tables. Our food was brought out shortly after. I ordered my dish at a medium/hot spice level. Although it was more on the medium level, it had a nice smooth heat throughout. I enjoyed dipping my naan bread in the sauce. Overall the lamb, potatoes, and sauce all came together for a decent heat and flavor. I enjoyed my experience here and the price was reasonable. The amount of food served could easily be two portions but I was able to finish in one sitting. I will be back again, especially since once or twice a year we take our dogs to the Meadery next to it. read more

Carnegie is quite a ways away from my house, but I was really craving to try a new Indian place. Cafe Delhi had some interesting menu items and some menu staples. Plus, I was curious as to what restaurants in the area served. I ended up ordering the Chana bhatura and gulab jamun. The bhatura bread was absolutely delicious. Portion was quite good. It was just oily enough to be flavorful, but not so oily that it was greasy in a bad way. There were also little crunchy pieces, as well as soft pieces. It was overall an excellent bread and something I'd recommend ordering on the side even if you don't get it with your main meal. The Chana itself was quite flavorful. It was a little bit spicy, but I could handle it. The texture was a little off for me. There seemed to be less whole chunks of chickpeas and more small pieces. Portion was pretty decent and it was overall tasty. The gulab jamun are a go to Indian dessert order for me (along with kheer). These gulab jamun balls were a little small. However, they were well made. They used an adequate amount of syrup (which is very sweet, but I could probably drink it on its own since it's so good). Not the best I've ever had, but definitely tasty. All in all, this is definitely high quality Indian food, especially for the area. There aren't too many Indian places near Carnegie, so I definitely recommend giving Cafe Delhi a try. Portions aren't as huge as they are in other places, but the flavors are there. read more

Needing food to complement my drink at Apis with a friend, I ordered pickup from Cafe Delhi across the street. Not feeling super hungry, and knowing that the portions would be big on a main course, thanks to another yelp review, I ordered Samosas (2 per order) and the Chicken Pepper Fry. My friend asked for 2 samosas as well, and reimbursed me. We waited a bit and then I walked over and picked up the food. It was super tasty! The main came with a choice of Rice, Naan or both and you can pick garlic or regular naan. I had the garlic naan with my samosa and both were very good. Crispy samosa with great filling and nice spice. I had my chicken fry for lunch on Friday and it was super tasty. You get a lot of rice with your meal, so keep that in mind too. I wonder if this place isn't fully known to people because it's out in Carnegie and attached to the Indian Cultural Center. It's really good though. Pickup only if you order online, FYI. read more

This is a place in my neck of the woods that I saw but never ventured. I will be back. I have had Indian before. I know the popular dishes and various curries. I decided to get what the server recommended. Both my boss and I had different goat dishes. The meat was tender like a pot roast. Very authentic Indian place right in Carnegie. You order at the counter, and someone will deliver your food to you table. The place was packed, so I figured it must be good! I really don't eat Indian food, so I asked the girl at the counter what's good and she told me she doesn't eat there so she didn't know lol. I thought that was a strange response! We ordered the Mirchi as an appetizer and it was so delicious!!! My fiend ordered some kind of potato pancake with vegetables in it and she loved it. I had a bite and wished I would have ordered that too! I got the lamb wrap and wasn't a fan. The lamb was red. Not red as in bloody and rare, just red. It freaked me out a little bit. I've never seen bright red lamb before. I should also note that Cafe Delhi is BYOB and they don't charge a corking fee! If you like Indian food, you should check this place out. read more

I came here with my coworker on a Sunday for dinner and we ordered some delicious food. The service was quick and the staff was friendly. I ordered the lamb spiced level 2 which was plenty for me, and my coworker ordered goat curry level 6, and it was hotter than hell for her lol. She was sweating with the heat but she loved it. Since my mother and I first ate here, my sister Vi and I have gotten food delivery via DoorDash several times. In the last order, the Dasher left our drinks behind so the kind manager Prathab gave us 2 of each drink we didn't get last time for free! This level of customer service is excellent; sadly, it's very rare nowadays. The food is absolutely mouthwatering and scrumptious! Our favorites: Chicken Tikka Masala, Lamb Curry, and for vegetarians you must try their Channa Masala with chickpeas! The best vegetarian dish I've ever eaten by far! We also love their vegetarian Samosa and the yummy 2 dipping sauces that come with them. To cool off try a Mango Lassi or if you're a coffee addict like me try their Indian Coffee. I personally have not eaten here but the food smelled wonderful when I first arrived to pick up an order. Although the restaurant doesn't look too bad, I went to use the restroom and noticed something pretty gross. Near the restrooms, there is a patch of ceiling that has fallen apart. It appears that there may be some type of mold or mildew. This is not directly near the food, but I don't feel that it is safe in a restaurant considering mold spores can drift through the air. There was also a lot of dirt and some bugs in the restroom. As well as a lot of bug catchers near the back of the restaurant - next to the dirty dishes in the hall... I'm afraid this place needs a very deep clean as well as some ceiling repairs... read more

The owner knows who is a "regular" and once I couldnt decide what meal to take home for my son, he gave me a complimentary 2nd meal. Great place to grab Indian food in Carnegie. Location a little hard to find but just off of the Main Street in Carnegie. Friendly and fast service. Take out or dine in setting. Order taken and paid for at the counter, orders are then brought out to you. I had the Aloo Gobi Masala, Somosa Chaat and Naan, all of which was perfect and I would order again. Dishes seam to come with rice or Naan but you can order a side of extra Naan. It does look a little divey inside. When I was here when it was cold and as other reviewers said, there are space heaters around the perimeter which was interesting, but the temperature was fine in the dining area so it didn't bother me. Prices reasonable. Can't wait to come back for more especially for take out! read more

Best biryani that I've had around Pittsburgh! We came here for lunch during a weekday. It was a bit hard to find the parking lot since it's not paved but it's right behind the store. Once you go in, you stand in line, order, pay and get a number for your order. There is some outside seating which was enjoyable since the weather was nice. I got the lamb biryani, sweet and sour mushrooms and mango smoothie! Everything was amazing and reasonably priced. The biryani was full of flavor and was amazing! I'll start with the fact that the food was very good, the restaurant was neat and clean, and nicely decorated. The buffet was plentiful with an abundant selection of appetizers, entrees and desserts. Unfortunately, the food on the buffet was luke warm which made it less appetizing. We did bring it to the owners attention and he double checked that his sternos were working and offered to heat our plates in the kitchen. The buffet was $22.95 a person which was reasonable. But when we received the check, we were surprised to find another $19 for naan, which we assumed would be included in the buffet price. Then, there was also a TIP of 18% included in the bill. When questioned we were directed to a small sign that said the tip would be included for a party of 3 or more. But an 18% tip is definitely not appropriate for a buffet, especially since the only server was the owner. read more

One of my favorite Indian places in the Burgh! It's a hidden gem in Carnegie that's worth stopping by. The restaurant itself can get busy during expected hours of service (lunch and dinner) so if you want it fast, order ahead and carry out. They do have a period of time that they are closed during the day, I believe from about 4:30-5:30pm, so that is something to be mindful of when planning a visit. My favorite dish is the Malai Kofta with rice AND naan. You can't go wrong with their naan. It's so soft and buttery and everything I need. This dish is a nice balance of savory and sweet and is exceptionally filling. The Palak Paneer and Paneer Tikka Masala are also exceptional plates as well. As a vegetarian, I enjoy the robust options to select from. As others have noted, if you don't enjoy super spicy foods, stick with a 3 or 4 level. I've never braved anything more than this just because I am a creature of habit and stick with what I know. read more

And that's exactly what I did :) Décor : Ive never dined here as the place in itself is rather minuscule esp for a family. The overall ambience is below average to be honest and at the forefront kinda dampens your spirits! Service : No comments here as all of my trips to this place were take outs only (See reason above) Food : You must be wondering, hmm why the 4 stars if Service and Ambience was questionable. Here's the reason... their food, whatever I DID try, was very very good! We typically order Butter Chicken, Chicken 65 and Chicken Biryani. The Butter Chicken was one of the BEST versions of itself that Ive had here in US, almost competing with some great establishments in India as well. The creaminess of the curry, the tartness of the char on the chicken and the moistness of the chicken itself, was simply romance for the taste buds!! The Chicken 65 was perfectly seasoned, not too Spicy, and again cooked just right. The Chicken Biryani had its rice almost harkening back to older times where they imbued the rice with these all spices that made the fragrance elements go off the rails! We also tried their Goat, which in itself was Good, but no match for their Chicken dishes. I highly recommend trying those dishes from this place! read more

I've ordered takeout on numerous occasions and have been holding off on reviewing until I've experienced dining in the restaurant. I recently dined-in and I must say, Cafe Delhi is absolutely the best Indian restaurant I've tried in the South Hills, and maybe even all of Pittsburgh!! The food is consistently amazing. I can honestly say I crave Cafe Delhi immediately after I finish eating it. After trying quite a few items on the menu, you can't really go wrong with anything. My favorite, though, is the butter chicken. Pair that with garlic naan and it's heaven. My husband's favorite is the paneer tikka masala. Cafe Delhi is a fast casual setting, which I like. Order at the counter and they'll bring it out to you. It's usually quite busy here, but the service is always relatively fast.
