I took my Lexus GX 460 to Jake's Transmission due to what felt like transmission issues - difficulty shifting into drive, but no problem with reverse or neutral. After leaving it for 24 hours, they diagnosed it as a fuse malfunction and quoted $400 to replace it. I agreed, but the next day, they claimed it was actually a transmission problem, asking for $5500 to fix it. Feeling frustrated by the sudden change and the wasted $400, I discovered Lexus dealership would do the job for $6200. In hindsight, going directly to them would have saved me time and money. Additionally, Jake's Transmission didn't offer to reimburse the $400 for the unnecessary fuse replacement, and when I attempted to drive my car to Lexus, it wouldn't move. It was in a worse condition than when I brought it to them, necessitating a tow, and I'm unsure what they did to worsen its condition. read more

Please beware!!! Check your other options. Ordered a Jakes stage 3 4l80e transmission to complete my build on my 650hp, Whipple supercharged, 2003 tahoe. Look up a my video in a month on YouTube called my Whipple Supercharged Wheelchair. This is a build my family has helped me to accomplish. I'm a handicapped man but that's neither here nor there. Nice staff at Jakes just leads to more frustration. Jakes Mistakes, sent a stage 3, 4l80 to me. It took nearly a year to get. Whole time I was told "its on the bench" and given the next arbitrary date they didn't achieve! I finally received Jakes Mistakes transmission. It felt clunky and horrible. It wouldn't engage reverse reliably. First gear shift was so violent it beat up my new ujoints and lashings in rear end. Several times it endangered my family by being on a hill and not reversing. It's really easy to get into sticky situations when you rely on reverse and in a 4 wheel drive! My tuner and installer tried communicating with Jakes. Which is is a whole complication in itself. Jakes said "add a quart of fluid", even after telling them the danger I encountered. I told them how dangerous I thought that was being the level of proper install and dipstick measuring that goes into these transmissions for correct install. Plus it's put me in a ditch and a fence twice trying to use reverse. Which I told Jake. Jakes said keep driving it, but my tuner said we got to get this back, it's too dangerous. Finally Jakes agreed to take the tranny back. Jakes got it into the shop, diagnosed it and realized they put a wrong pump in it. Fortunately the staff fell on their sword and said it was completely Jakes fault. By now, I had so much extra cost and damage that was caused by this faulty transmission. Jakes said that all that damage was my responsibility. So they send out the replacement transmission, but guess what, it cost to pull the transmission and install it again. I asked Jakes to only pay for the install which didn't cover any of the broken or worn brand new parts that the faulty transmission had caused. I explained That this was a superfluous install as it was created by Jakes faulty transmission. These extras were $3600+ worth of labor and parts that Jakes mistakes caused. I couldn't afford any of it as my family and community had help build me a rig that could get me places I couldn't normally go. Jakes has put me in a real bind. I nicely pleaded with Jakes to please help me. HERE IS JAKES REPLY. It's clearly written in our policies, as well as every other performance transmission company. We make mistakes and we cover that. We didn't install the trans and profit from that, so we don't warranty that. Not to mention that the R&R cost you submitted was over double what a normal rate is. Not only do the people here love In n Out, which as a native to CA is really near and dear to my hear, but they are honest and just genuinely nice people. You can tell that they do not want to nickle and dime you, they simply want to get your car fixed and back on the road again. We just brought our car into Jake's after we thought it had a transmission problem. Turns out, it was a fluke occurrence and but Jake's looked through every piece of our transmission, checked our fluids, all of it, and then didn't even charge us for all of the time he spent looking things over! If that isn't honest service, I don't know what is. My car drives great still, my wallet is happy, and I now know where to take to my car if/when it messes up again! read more

After scheduling an appointment 2 weeks out, the (super helpful) person at the front desk (very rudely) said I did not have an appointment. He made no apologies and kept asking who I made the appointment with, saying I must not have talked to him because he didn't know about it. When I asked to reschedule, he said he isn't able to schedule appointments and I would have to call back. Really pathetic business practices. Place is probably fine if you can leave your car "until they can get to it" and you don't mind really rude service. As an aside, I had to call twice to make my appointment. The first call and voicemail were never returned, and I had to call again a week later. read more

A couple weeks back by Check Engine Light came on, and away to the dealer I went. They said it was the transmission, which they only replace (for $4k!). Called a second place and they told me a similar thing - but more expensive on the cost. Then I called Jake's. Frank told me to bring it in, no charge to look at it. After looking at the transmission they found a fluid leak, low transmission fluid, and a u-joint problem and got it all repaired in about 24 hours. So far the truck is working great, and they were super helpful about following up if it started not feeling right. Trustworthy shop! read more

I can't say enough about this shop. We brought in a clunker with 200k+ and computer problems(didn't know it at the time). They worked to diagnose our problems and worked hard to get us a functioning computer. I really appreciate the help and pleasant attitude of Frank. Jake's is a remarkably honest establishment, as well as being surprisingly upbeat. If you need a transmission place, you are already having a bad day. Frank - the guy I worked with - has a great "bedside manner." I don't imagine it's easy for him when he has to tell people bad news. He did an excellent job of helping me understand my car's problem, and what solutions Jake's has to offer. Also, the office is very homey, and my two kids (4 and 6) enjoyed looking over the extensive collection of toy cars, instead of being exposed to the televisions that are so ubiquitous in auto-related establishments. ive had transmission rebuilt around 7 months, 5000 miles ago.i started hearing a rattling noise when i started the engine. i took it to my local garage thinking it was the starter. the mechanic found that it was that it was that all the bolts on the torqe converter which jakes transmission installed was loose. jakes tansmission was contacted since it was under warrenty. they said since they had tore it down to go ahead and tighten them.it cost me 220 dollars from local garage to tighten them.it also cost me 36 dollars for taxi to carry me back and forth to local garage,. contacted jakes garage to get at least some of the money it cost me since they were the ones to install it. nothing. now im wondering if transmission goers out before warrinty is out .is the warrenty worth anything. i wont do business with them again. read more
