I grew up going to Jake's, so when we were on a four hour road trip north this past week, we had to swing over and have some of that amazing thin crust cut party style- exactly how I remembered it. The restaurant was fairly similar to how it used to be in the 80s, too, from what I can still remember anyway. We called ahead so it would be ready and we could get in, eat, and get back on the road. In a town with not a ton of selection for gf eating Jake's pizza has come in very clutch at least a couple of times when visiting my in-laws. The pizza is good, I'm highly reactive and haven't had an issue with their pizza yet so- so far so good. The pizza is pretty good, a welcomed treat from dominos (which is our usual go to at home which I have had a reaction to before, so that's been hit or miss for me.) I wish they had bigger sizes in gf crust but that's pretty much normal at any place that has gf option is tiny pizzas. read more

Driving back from the badlands with a 3 year old. I'm white, husband is black. It was open and not a chain so I ordered a pizza 30 min before close. I walked in 15 min before close, announced I was there for pickup and going to use the bathroom. I got a bottle of water and paid. Walked out. Walked in 2 minutes later, said "we are on a road trip, my husband is going to use the bathroom." Kids said ok. Husband walks in a minute later and is told to go to the gas station by some guy from the back. Pizza was food, but my husband stopped me from going back and confronting what I can only assume to be the manager. I didn't go back in to announce a patron needed to use the bathroom for nothing. You really can't go wrong with Jake's Pizza. Not only is the pizza good, but they also have great sandwiches! I order a sandwich ahead of time and pick it up over my lunch break. My boyfriend and I ordered the small mac and cheese pizza and we were very very impressed! It was truly the best mac and cheese pizza that we have ever had, and we wish that we had ordered the large. If you're ever in Fairmont this is a must try, from the taste, texture, price, and time it took from ordering and when the pizza was ready everything was perfect! Could not have asked for better. This pizza is poorly made. It's likely that the pizza isn't getting cooked long enough. Normally the cheese in the center isn't melted all the way through. Because of the undercooking when you try to pick up a slice all the toppings slide off. We've tried several times eating here and the lack of quality and attention stays the same. I've been going to Jake's for over 25 years. I live in Seattle but my family is originally from Fairmont, so we make it back for family reunions. Whenever we come to town, I always have to eat at Jake's at least a couple of times. It really is unlike any pizza I've had anywhere else in the world. Thin, crispy, chewy and delicious. It really is "Minnesota Style" pizza. Sometimes, I consider making the road trip from Seattle to Fairmont just to eat at Jake's. I'd tell everyone I was driving out to visit my relatives, but that's just the facade. I'd be there for those pizzas. read more

We arrived at Jake's when they were only 10 minutes from closing so we were just going to buy some take and bake frozen pizzas; which they had a large selection and quantity available. But the own insisted that we go ahead and grab a seat and eat in. We ordered a buffalo chicken and a Fairmont special and they came out quickly. Having never eaten at Jake's we didn't even know what kind of crust they served. We were happy to see thin crust! It was crispy on the edges and the topping were plentiful! Went to get a pizza on Saturday evening about 8:30. Ordered a couple of "thick crust" pizzas. For clarification, the waitress pointed out that their thin crust is the most popular and that the thick crust is more like a hand-tossed pizza (which is my favorite). The pizza arrived on time. It looked like it was prepared by a newbie who never prepared a pizza before. The outer crust was flat and misshapen; the crust itself was not fully baked. Lastly, pizza should be made from a chewy dough - high gluten flour is what is usually used. This dough was crumbly (on the outer edges of the crust where it was fully baked) and not at all chewy. Upon inquiring who made the pizzas, I was informed that it was just some college kids back from college. While there is nothing inherently wrong with that, they should have been better trained regarding the making of a pizza. Lastly, even though their website stated that they are open until 11:00 pm on Saturday evening, chairs were already upside down on the tables by 9:45 pm. Needless to say, that is not a very welcoming atmosphere for diners. I will give Jake's one more shot, this time I will try their thin crust, based on the other reviews. read more

Unfortunately this was probably the worst pizza that I have had so far and I have eaten many pizzas in my life. It was definitely a surprise to me due to all the great reviews this place has. I had ordered the medium thin crust pie with onion, mushrooms, ham, and extra cheese. The mushrooms were not fresh but canned mushrooms. The onion was diced into small square pieces and was practically non existent. There were maybe five small slices of ham on the entire pie and the crust had no flavor. It looked like the pie was thrown in the oven for about five minutes as the cheese was not even fully melted. When it was delivered to my hotel room it was cold. To top it all off it was on the pricey side, I would have been better off getting a frozen pizza in the grocery store. read more

Good pizza! We had the Gourmet Delight (Canadian bacon, beef, mushrooms, onions, added olives) and the Veggie. Both were wonderful! Thin crust with plenty of melted cheese...we ate every bit. The place was very busy and it was obvious they were also sending out plenty of take out orders. I'm originally from the Fairmont area and after living in the Twin Cities for a few years and now another smaller town I have yet to find a better pizza place. They have the absolutely best thin crust pizza. I've been going there since I can remember and our family used to eat there nearly every Sunday night. Almost always stop there when I'm back. My personal favorite is the Jake's Special (sausage, mushrooms and green olives). The other great part here is the service. OMG OMG OMG. I am doing the pizza happy dance in my hotel room right now. I am in the area on business staying in a nearby hotel. In the hotel Jake's is listed as a sponsor, but right next to Godfather's (terrible chain) which usually isn't a good sign. After looking at a few Google Reviews I figured "meh, why not?' Tonight I got back to the hotel, and had a wonderful experience ordering for delivery. The pizza arrived incredibly quickly and when it did I was simply in awe. A decade ago I moved away from the town I grew up in and went to college in. A pizza place there is something I really miss, and try to go to every time I go back to visit family. When I opened this pizza box...I saw that amazing college pizza staring back at me, smell and everything. I found another place in this world that makes pizza exactly like Big Al's in La Crosse, WI. Thin, chewy New York style crust, cut into small squares...big chunks of sausage....epic amounts of cheese, and a sauce that what make me slap my grandma like she stole my car.
