We've ordered takeaway from El Agave twice now while in town to visit my in laws and haven't been disappointed. Great portions, really good flavorful food, and I am now completely obsessed with their pollo habanero dish. I asked for extra habanero if possible, honestly not sure if they did but it was certainly delicious and had a great spice level to it. The coconut margarita was phenomenal and my boyfriend wasn't disappointed by the large Dos Equis. We shared the fajitas and they were delicious. We stopped in at 11am on a Thursday and the place was airy, clean, modern, industrial & adorable. I loved the multiple differentiated resin tabletops, clever and artsy. The service was great and so was the food. We split a steak fajita nachos. The queso was excellent reminded me of a Philly cheesesteak nachos tbh with the peppers, mushrooms & onions. First off, this is good food. From the start, you get a basket of chips and salsa and it's clearly made in house. The meal was also very good. Overall this is great food. Alone, I would give the food five stars. The reason for three? The waitress walked by our table several times while I had an empty drink in front of me. This is just lazy and inexcusable. If you have free refills, OFFER THEM. It's ridiculous they make the customer to have to ask first. This tells me the wait staff is inattentive and does not care. The second star was taken away because of their chip/salsa policy. One basket per table? So two people could come in and sit at different tables and they each get their own basket of chips with salsa. If they sit together, they only get one basket with salsa to split between them. If four people come in, the same. You can only nickel and dime customers for so long before they stop going there. And cutting corners on chips and salsa will cost you customers. Being chincy on refills will cost you customers. You have good food. Now get great service. You don't have it at all. read more

This is the go to place to never be disappointed. Everything is always amazing. Recently I discovered the Habenro chicken, if you like spicy this is it. Then the next time I went I asked if they could put the Habenro chicken in a burrito! OMG... SO DELICIOUS. O and the margaritas are simply the best, my favorite is the iguana margarita. WORST FOOD EVER chips are made only in the morning they tasted gross then tortillas crumbled apart the meat rices and beans are heated up and and made days in advance the workers are dumb and incompetent and don't serve the people rather they walk in circles and be on their phone. We were passing through the town of Fairmont when we stopped and had lunch at El Agave. I believe and respect that most Mexican Restaurants vary widely on flavor and how they prepare their entrees, salsa, chips, and margaritas. I was pleased with my combination entrée which consisted of a chimichanga, quesadilla and taquito. The cheese sauce and condiments were delicious. We went during the week and there was no wait. We had great service and we quickly received our meal. If I am ever passing through Fairmont again, I would definitely stop at El Agave for a great meal! read more

This place is el mejor...and the only thing I crave when I visit home, no offense to mom, but the hors d'oeuvres and cocktails are her specialty. On any given Friday or Saturday night it's guaranteed that half the town is dining there, but there's never a long wait. The ambiance is nothing to marvel at, but the food is totally crave-worthy. I've had almost everything on the menu that involves queso and pollo, but the número uno is my favorite (an enchilada, chicken taco & Spanish rice). They make strong margaritas that are $4-5 and the fried ice cream is tan delicioso. I think it's time to pay a visit to ma and pa. read more

I was in Fairmont for work and found this place in the downtown area and it seemed busy so I figured I would give it a try. Overall it was decent but as with most Mexican places I review them mostly on their margaritas and this place was sub-par. It was a sugary mix that came out of a larger container which I wasn't too happy about. For dinner I went with the chili rellano and taco and they were both pretty good, but nothing too special. The chili reaello was a little greasy and had some decent spice to it, which I liked. The taco was much better and if I ever find myself in this town again I'll probably go with the taco platter. read more

Very poor Mexican food I am from San Antonio, Texas. I know good Mexican food. This is not good Mexican food. Where I come from, most Mexican restaurants are judged on their salsa. El Agave salsa tasted like- thin ketchup. It was perhaps the worst salsa I have had in ten years. I pretty sure they watered it down to save a couple of pennies. Second- the tortillas were straight out of a package. What my Mexican wife calls "white man tortillas". Another cost-saving scheme Third- the chips- were absolutely tasteless. They were cold- and you could tell they did not bother to salt them when they were removed from the frier. I guess it is too expensive to buy a chip warmer. However, salt is pretty cheap- I would have expected at least some salt. Lastly, and perhaps worstly- the Main Dish. I ordered the "pork with green chili" dish. Normally this dish is served with hunks of pork. Not at El Agave. Here they were tiny little pieces of pork, with about 1/4 of the pork pieces- white squares. I did not understand what was going on- until I removed a white piece and looked hard at it. What these white squares turned out to be- were pieces of fat that they chopped up and placed into the dish. They hid it good under that green salsa. Unfortunately for me, 1/4 of the plate was fat pieces. I could not believe it. To reiterate, in order to save money- El Agave cut up the pork into really small peices- so you could not see that they were cubes of fat- and covered the whole thing under a green sauce. Pretty clever El Agave. I would hate to see what they put in their completely covered burritos ! When I paid- I became even more disgusted I had ordered a medium beer, some pico de gallo, and the "pork fat" dish that I spoke about. At the end of the meal, I was presented with a bill for $20. What a rip off. People of Minnesota- if you want some good Mexican food. Don't eat at this place. It was awful. Instead, go to Walmart, get a can of Cheez Wiz- and enjoy. Very overpriced for what it is. Chips nearly tasteless and clearly not homemade. Salsa mediocre at best and only a little bit given. I was charged 99 cents for more salsa! $2.75 for a coke in a small town is unheard of! Now for my meal. I have had taco salads many many times all across the USA and never have I had such a poor one. Ground beef and lettuce and one tomato along with sour cream in the smallest bowl I have ever seen for a taco salad anywhere. They charge $7.95 for this. read more

This was recommended by locals as the "best Mexican ever." The cheese dip was way too runny and thus messy. When the meals arrived, the portion size was way too small for the price. The soft shell tacos were almost miniature and consisted of bland beef, some lettuce and some cheese. The sides of rice/beans were probably less than one ounce each in serving size. It was adequate for Fairmont, I guess, but you could tell there wasn't likely much competition and therefore, not much effort or motivation to get the quality high and the prices moderate. The locals like it so thought I'd try it. Chips aren't homemade, and lunch chimichanga was so so. The shredded beef in it was good and tender. If I could give this place zero stars I would, but the bathrooms were clean. To call it Mexican food is not only a disgrace, but is a serious offense to the Mexican fellows that work there. And that wasn't even the worst, because I love chile rellenos. The chile relleno i received was a chile filled with American cheese and briefly broiled. No egg, no nothing. Just a sub par chile filled with stick to the roof of your mouth and teeth American cheese. I can't remember a time I was so put out by Mexican food. My buddies food were no better. Disgusting, very regrettable food. And our waiter could barely mutter a word or two in English, which made things difficult. If you want to stop by and take a poop in a clean bathroom, this is a good place. If you have any desire for food that won't make you sick, stay far, far away.
