Nice place right on the water. Very nice couches and big bar area. Was so much better before Sandy, but they rebuilt. Bathrooms are in a trailer and airplane style. So is the kitchen, kind of strange. Food isn't remarkable and pretty expensive for the value of the food. Drink prices are outrageous. Security gave my boyfriend a hard time when he gave over his ID because he grew his beard out..... my boyfriend's near 30 and has gray hair, I promise he isn't under 21 and made a fake ID! LOL Totally ruined the vibe of the night. read more

I have very mixed feelings about this place. My husband and I love it because you are sitting on piers over the ocean and the live music or DJ are usually pretty good. They have a nice outside bar area. Plenty of tables on the piers for food. The food is what's lacking. Everything is cooked out if this trailer and and the quality is not the best. Go here for drinks music and the sunset. read more

I grew up in Hazlet and moved to California 34 years ago. I have been keeping in touch with my family who still live in the area. I make it a point to visit Jakeabob's every time I visit the area. In the summer months, the Tiki Bar has views of New York and on balmy nights, I feel as though I am on a tropical island. I have not met a server or bar tender that I have not liked. The owner, Gigi, goes out of her way to make you feel at home. She is the brain child around most of the dishes that are created. They have an exceptional waitress/bartender, by the name of Kathy, that runs rings around most servers I know in California.....must be that East Coast work ethic. I travel all over the world and appreciate this gem of a restaurant. Cannot say enough. read more

Live music. Check. Servers in top of you. Check. Drunken clams fish tacos and tuna ahi poke by the water. Check. All very good. Service good. Drinks could be a little stronger. Had to order doubles to taste right. Otherwise. Excellent. read more

Food- stingy with the clams on the drunken shrimp and clams. Sauce was amazing but you really can't screw up butter, wine and garlic. Shrimp nachos - ok, shrimp were good but should have been chopped - who wants a full shrimp on a nacho chip and cheese sauce was less then cheese wiz. Drinks - no alcohol in the margarita Service - I hope the owner reads this. YOU ARE WASTING YOUR MONEY ON PAYROLL. There were 12 hostesses standing and sitting around doing nothing. When we asked if we could order anything hostess looked bothered by us asking. 5 min later another waitress who was sitting there the whole time came over. Very slow service at best. Polite I guess but slow. There was so many servers and hostesses the ratio to server and customer was 1:1 in the whole place. View - can't beat it. Nice deck right over the bay. The area was clean and new. A few tweeks on the recipes and customer service training and we may have something here. Good luck. read more

Great place, service is always on point. Good size portions. Nice environment if you're into seaside dining and social life style.

A friend of mine and I went there a few weeks ago. It was a perfect breezy day in late afternoon around 4 (Tues or Wed). We decided to eat out on the dock tables. My friend suggested this place and had a coupon from Deal Chicken, it was definitely worth it! We first ordered Shrimp in the Rough, it was huge and fresh, we gobbled it all up. Then she ordered Sea Scallops which were also huge, fresh and tasty. I ordered Poorman's Surf n Turf which were cheeseburger with fried clams on the side. Everything was cooked to perfection. I had Lori who was our waitress, she was great and friendly. I'm surprised about some of the reviews here as my friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our food and had no complaint for any items we ordered. The view was wonderful, sitting atop of water on a dock, we were able to see the city of NY with the bridges to the left. Give this a place a try and just relax on a dock overseeing the city of NY! read more

I enjoyed the view and food was awesome..I loved the steamers (no sand) and the shrimp tostados..hubs enjoyed the scallops and shrimp and our kids liked their meals.... but they sat a bunch on 20 somethings next to my family who cursed and talked about drunken nights loudly the entire meal... my recommendation is keep them in the tiki bar or away from families with kids. They heard too many f bombs tonight and it wasn't late night. We have been 20 something but knew not to curse that much in front of families..... go to the bar.... that's why it's there with seats and food...... we will be back for breakfast..hopefully without the cursing kids... read more

Good Food. Good Service. Good Drinks. Great View. This is my hometown, although I have not lived here in 20 years. You do not really appreciate what you once had until you have moved away. Very nice, casual atmosphere. I try to come, at least, once a year as my mother still lives in UB. CL Read read more

Well we will have to try this place again next season. We were not impressed this one and only visit. We got a table in 20 mins which we thought was great considering the crowd. We were seated and continued to sit there without a server for 15 mins. Finally went and told someone. A server came and we put in our drink order. She came back and said they couldn't find my cc. Great. Drinks came, card found. We sat another 15 mins or so and watched people get served their entree's around us that were seated after us. We ordered 1 appy. We waited. They had a lot of servers there. We know because we watched them all passing our table all night. It was like we were invisible. Appy came. It was fabulous. Drunken shrimp and clams. Will order this again for sure. Then we sat another 15 mins or so after we were completely done with our appy before our entrees came. Food was good. We had the fish and chips and the blueberry bbq ribs. Could not taste any blueberry flavor at all. Even the leftovers that were had for lunch. So, it could have been called anything but blueberry glazed ribs. Drink prices were very reasonable. If you want a shore experience without the shore hassle I would recommend this place. Will try it again next season as the close down soon. read more

This place offers a nice end to a beach day. Took my little ones for lunch and we all loved the views. They were very happy with their kid menu (although they are not that difficult to please). I opted for the fish tacos and was highly impressed. Fountain drinks aren't that great but, who comes here for the soda? I look forward to my next visit to try more seafood. read more

If i could give zero stars, I would! This place sucks! Against my better judgment, we decided to go to JakeaBob's for dinner. I have heard SEVERAL people complain about the service there, but the people I was with wanted to "dine" by the water. We were a party of 6 which included my 102 year old uncle. When we arrived at 6:10 we were told that the wait would be 20-25 minutes, so we decided to go ahead and wait. There were several groups of people that were also waiting for tables. We waited and waited....and waited until 7:30, when we approached the hostess and asked why there were empty tables yet people weren't being seated. Their reply was that people had reserved and PAID in advance for those tables. I've never heard of that happening in my life. Who pays their bill in advance without showing up or even knowing what they're going to order?? My aunt asked to speak to the manager but she got the owner "Gigi" instead. She didn't even allow my aunt to finish her sentence before she stormed off, but not before saying "What the fuck, this is bullshit"(she said this to a guy she apparently knew), and pointing back at my aunt. She walked to the dining area, looked around, came back and said " Listen, either you're gonna wait, or you're not." We obviously decided to leave after being treated like trash. My aunt wasn't rude in any way, shape or form, she merely mentioned that there were empty tables, and we had been waiting for almost an hour and a half for a table. Needless to say that we will NEVER go back there again. read more

View and live music on Sunday night was amazing. Food was great too, but the Sangria was lacking. I would definitely go again.

I used to go here prior to Sandy, even going back to when I was a kid. I didn't think they would reopen and I was very excited when they did. I couldn't wait to visit. I had been past since they reopened and the place looked great. When I finally had the chance, the wait staff seemed very disorganized and confused. We were seated and a waitress came over and promptly took our drink order. After about 15 minutes passing, a different waitress came over and introduced herself. We told her our order had already been taken and she seem annoyed that her coworker stole her table from her. I even saw her confront the coworker about it and saw them arguing over who's table it was. After we finally got our drinks (sangria and mojitos, which were average), we ordered nachos to start with. For $15 they were not worth it at all. Flavorless chicken and chunks of lettuce on them, with a little bit of tomato and cheap cheese sauce (not even shredded cheese like most places do) and a tiny bit of sour cream on the side. They didn't even have salsa available when we asked. My wife ordered a burger which was decent and not bad for the price (the only plus). I decided to go on the lighter side and ordered buffalo shrimp. For $12 I got 5 very tiny fried shrimp tossed in a little bit of buffalo sauce served on a paper plate. Although the homemade blue cheese was tasty, I felt very ripped off. Staff members that were bringing food out to the tables were literally running past our table while doing so, almost bumping into us. It made it very unenjoyable. We also witnessed staff members emptying drink glasses into the water as they were clearing tables, including straws. Some respect for the environment needs to be shown. Although the view was great and the place is very nice since being rebuilt, the view is not worth the price of the food. Especially for what you get. If you want to eat on the water, you are much better off taking the trip further south to one of the places in the Highlands. Cheaper prices, much higher quality food, better service and bigger portions. I may return to the tiki bar for a drink or two since it is so close to home. But I won't spend a dime on food here again. read more

Overpriced and very inconsistant quality food. The only thing they have going for them is the outdoor seating on the deck and the Tikki Bar, other than that the food sucks. read more

First time here.Awesome facility and location! They did a great job restoring it as an open air restaurant after Sandy. Very unique to the Jersey Shore area. Problems seem to be service. We were told 20 min wait and enjoyed standing at the bar listening to "Shore Thing" trio. But after 45 mins, we started going to the hostess station to check our place on the list, because we were seeing empty tables. 3 young girls, looking at their phones and chatting, they hire a young, attractive wait staff which is fine but they also seem inexperienced and not well coordinated. Once we got seated our waitress was there promptly. She took a drink order and returned to take food order in reasonable time . I order a Jakeabob burger, medium.. We enjoyed sitting out at the end of the pier and our food was served in what seemed reasonable time. But, the fries were already cold, and for the 857th time, I receive a well done burger at yet another Jersey Shore Restaurant. But hey, that's everywhere.Wife had Shrimp salad, which was very good ! Now so far, not bad. But we have to wait for the check, this takes a while, first to get it, then to come back and pick it up, then I needed change. Oh boy. After 20 minute I get impatient and go to find my waitress.Found her, waiting on a table all the way out by the street. About the farthest from my table as could possibly be. On what planet does this make sense? Bottom line is it shouldn't take 2 hours and 40 mins to have a coupla beers and a burger. We will go back, hoping that maybe the staff will improve through the season. read more

Dined here today. I like the way the bar area was set back from the dining area. They forgot to bring the shrimp bisque, so we went straight to the entrees. I had the crab cake sandwich, which was bland, no flavor. Won't get it again. My husband had the blueberry ribs. The sauce was tasty, not too sweet or smoky. The meat was chewy. The portion of ribs was a good size and filled my husband up. Service is slow, but friendly, so don't worry about being rushed. read more

Jakeabobs is basically a local bar/restaurant. It's very off the beaten path and unless you were specifically looking for it, you would never find it. During the fall and winter, there's hardly anyone there, but in the summertime, the locals frequent it for it's location. It's right on the water with a great view of the Raritan Bay. As you look out over the water, you can see Staten Island to the left and Brooklyn to the right. During the night and on clear days you can also see the Verrazano Narrows Bridge and even lower Manhattan. The restaurant needs a makeover, but it's clean. There is indoor dining where they open up large garage like doors that face the water. There is also a deck with several outdoor tables, and you can hear the water right underneath you. Finally, there is a Tiki Bar on the side with a good sized bar and picnic tables, all with a view of the water. The restaurant serves mostly seafood. The truth is that the food is not very good and it's overpriced. There are a few dishes that are decent, and they do have some specials that can be good. Once again, this is a place that you go to if you live close by and you're looking for a place to chill out, have a drink and enjoy the view on a nice day or night. They actually have good Sangria and the staff is always super friendly. I like to go at night, when the weather is right. I grab a drink, turn my stool towards the water an enjoy the live music that they frequently have. Two stars for the food, but I still visit this place a few times every summer. read more

The nachos in Jakeabob's Bay were awful. The chips were stale, no meat at all, cheese wizz one inch thick covering everything on the plate, diced tomatoes on top and a spoon of guacamole. read more

It's awesome for exactly what it is. A casual beach bar. I'm from North Jersey, and I came down to see a friend play live music there on a Wednesday night. It's about 40 mins from me, but I will be returning again for sure. The outdoor bar is literally a stone throw from the ocean, only separated by the beach. You can see the sunset AND NYC(from a distance, but still very romantic.) There are beach chairs in some sand next to the bar as well, and another section that sticks out into the water with plenty of tables with umbrellas. There is an indoor bar and eating area as well with televisions to watch the games. If you didn't know you were in NJ, you would've thought you escaped to the islands. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is the food/service. Although the staff were very friendly, they were pretty slow at serving us, and the food was nothing to brag about. The nachos were pretty standard, and the burger was like any average burger. It was what it was, drunk food. I say skip the food, and just go for the drinks/ambiance. read more

Been going here for years, even before Sandy. The food is excellent. The atmosphere and location can't be beat. It's a popular place so be prepared for big crowds on the weekends but totally worth the wait for a table. Especally if you're waiting at the tiki bar. read more

I went there for dinner last weekend. Ordered panko chicken with roasted potatos. Potatos were fried and when I spoke to the waitress about them she argued with me and insisted they were roasted potatos, that they fry them and that is how they prepare them. I then tried to eat the chicken, but it was so overcooked I couldn't cut it with a steak knife. The manager took the meal off the bill, of course, but the whole experience was terrible. This used to be a great burger place many years ago. They need to go back to that and stop trying to be more upscale. read more

The food is really good, but a bit overpriced. Nice place to relax on a beautiful day. The wait staff is horrible though...we waited 20 minutes for someone to even seat us and then they forgot the dressing for the salad (I had to ask twice) and we couldnt find our waitress for the majority of our meal. We went there last night to celebrate my mother-in-law's birthday and the food was horrendous. The fried seafood combo was burned to a crisp. My stuffed shrimp with crabmeat included rubber-like overcooked shrimp with a bland crab-less stuffing. It came with what looked like squishy breakfast potatoes you would get at a diner. My sister-in-law got the salmon and it was the smallest serving I have ever seen. Everyone munched on a basket of fries. The only good thing about this place is the ambiance. Otherwise, save your money and your tastebuds. read more

Very disappointed!! Save your money! Wife ordered a bowl of new england clam chowder and they brought her a cup...it was clear with a hint of "cream" in it ...very watery! I ordered the wings wich were OK? . She ordered the flounder which wasn't bad but it came with potato wedges like maybe 6 of them. I ordered the ribs which cost $19 and it was half a rack of ribs a little burnt and dry with sauce drizzled on top and some on the plate ..."for decoration???" there were maybe 12 fries on the plate like the kind you buy in shoprite frozen section..with the breadding on them...terrible! frozen fries??? come on! We had to ask if we got salad...the waiter said "not all dinners came with salad" ...when clearly it said on the menu that all dinners come with salad... it was a bowl with enough lettuce to barely cover the bottom of the plate..my wife asked for fat free dressing and the server said "I don't know if we have fat free" then proceeded to try to "sell" my wife on another kind...I kept asking him to check and finally he checked but the answer was no! We ate our appetizer and moved our empty plate to the end of the table and waited 25 min for our main course. We sat at a table on the dock closest to the building and watched as at least 4 servers and the busboy walked past our empty plates almost 25 times before one of them actually stopped and took our plates! The to ladies across the way had to actually get their own ketchup for their burgers and when my dinner was rudely dropped in front of me the server just walked away...so I waited 5 min and just asked the girls across the way if I could borrow their ketchup and they laughed and said "SURE cause thats the only way you are going to get some!!!" I always TIP well ,20%, BUT I WAS TEMPTED TO STIFF THE WAITER! I have never stiffed the waiter! so I tipped minimum and I WILL NEVER GO BACK!!! I am telling everyone I know to stay away! read more

I had been here once before Sandy, which destroyed the restaurant. Was so glad they reopened and I love the all outdoor setup. I only ate here once on the pier. It was a lovely summer day as the sun was setting. It's a bit pricey, but my food was good and I totally enjoyed the outdoor atmosphere being on the pier over the water. If I lived closer, I know I would be a regular. As big as our Jersey shore is, it's hard to find establishments right on the water. I'm happy to pay a few dollars more for atmosphere as long as the food is good. At a place like this, I don't even care how long it takes to get my food. I'm just soaking in the scenery and the sun. I don't think I would have ordered a $31 crabcake-that's over-the-top. But, you can get a nice dinner for less here. read more

Whoever rated this place higher than 2 stars is obviously high on drugs OR sleeping with the owner. The service is absolutely horrible; the service staff either has no clue about the menu and items listed or they just don't give a shit. The waiter I had just didn't give a shit. I decided to take my parents (from out of town) here for a nice meal and cool atmosphere. My parents don't drink alcohol, we split one appetizer (NACHOS, which I sent back, absolutely disgusting) and the bill totaled $141.00 for three people. TO BE COMPLETELY HONEST I HAVE HAD A BETTER QUALITY MEAL AT APPLEBEE"S!!! Everything tasted so generic and low quality product. For the price I was expecting a great experience. Unfortunately with a moronic serving staff and product that belongs on a food cart in NYC I will not be returning or letting any of my friends or family fall for the same joke of restaurant! read more
