While visiting from Seattle, WA to spend time with friends, we decided to try Jafar's Mediterranean Food, and wow--we're so glad we did! This was hands down the best Mediterranean food we've ever had. Everything was incredibly fresh, flavorful, and perfectly cooked. The shawarma was tender and seasoned beautifully, the hummus was smooth and delicious, the lentil soup was comforting, and even the fries were crispy and well-seasoned. Every plate at our table was outstanding. The service was just as impressive. Everyone was welcoming, friendly, and made us feel right at home. The restaurant had a relaxed, inviting vibe that made it easy to sit back, enjoy great conversation, and savor an amazing meal. If you're anywhere near the area, do yourself a favor and stop here. I'm a city girl so I wanted to see what a small town had to offer. The place was clean and the staff were friendly and efficient. The restaurant is a cool space that needs to be enhanced. Some plants, some indigenous art on the walls and music would go a long way to add some warmth and vibe to this place. The chicken curry and gyro platters were really good. This is one of those places which is very underrated. The fact that it is downtown makes it even more special. First visit. I walked in and placed an order to go. The food was prepared on demand by the person taking the order (I assume the owner). I had the gyros and a side of dolmades. Delicious is an understatment. This is as good as it gets for Greek food. First time driving out to Van Aylstine, and I stumbled upon this place with a friend. This place had really tasty food. Nothing fancy inside or with the menu; just good food. There were two people working and they were great! The gyro plate was just delicious. Very fresh! Honestly it's the best I've had since moving to Texas. Great portions to price. First time trying this place out. I ordered the gyro salad, hummus sampler, dolmas, and falafel. Humans was my favorite. I enjoyed the 4 distinct flavors. The salad was flavorful and filling. The dolmas were tangy, filling and fresh. The falafel was crunchy on the outside some moisture inside. I like the shape of them especially for dipping. I enjoyed this food. I have to admit that I was not impressed by the quality of the food at this restaurant, especially given the price. Don't get me wrong the staff is very nice, but the food is definitely lacking. I've been here once before and did not leave a review because I wanted to give him a second chance, but the experience this time was pretty much the same as the last time. I ordered a chicken platter, which is $15, and a Sprite, which turned out to be a 12oz can, for $2. So right off the bat we are in pretty expensive territory, which would have been fine if the food was good. However there are a few problems. First, the salad was very wet, which is never pleasant. The lettuce tasted a little on the old side and the olives were mushy. The hummus was just bland; very disappointing. The tzatziki sauce tasted like regular, old sour cream which is not how tzatziki should taste. The tzatziki also had a gray strand of fiber in it. The chicken was cooked pretty nicely, but the seasoning was a little too light and did not really go well with the chicken. Now the bread was good and the rice was very good, which is why this is a 2-star and not a 1-star review. Unfortunately the bread and rice was not enough to redeem this experience. I would expect better for $17. One last note is that the door on the bathroom was very dirty. Toilet and sink were good, but the door needs some attention. I hate giving bad reviews, but there was no way around this one. Maybe Jafar's will up their game in the future, but for now it's a no-go for me. read more
