went to the Statue shop twice. there's a tattoo artist there at this location that's awesome who is a geat tattoo artist by the name of Douglas. he did my 2 of my tattoos and did amazing job. If I could give this place NEGATIVE stars I would. Gawd awful tattoo parlor. My daughter went to get her first tattoo. She came in with an image she wanted and was very specific in her request for both size and line. 3-4 inches and fine lines. The artist talked over her and mandsplained how it needed to be bigger... made it bigger and did a horrible drawing and tracing of the tattoo. The tattoo looks NOTHING like the image and the artist clearly needs to go back to tattoo school because he can neither draw nor trace and a Toddler could have done better line work. Buyer beware! There are a TON of great artists in this city but not at this shop and not by Gavin. read more

I got my first tattoo here, but was overpriced for a 4 inch outlined tattoo. When I sent the photo in to the artist, and he put it onto my skin, he only tattooed the outline when I wanted the details in it as well. The service is nice, and I was a walk in, but I was charged $350 for it. Make sure you're really specific with what you want, and don't let them take advantage of you like me. read more

I cannot think of a single negative thing when it comes to this shop and the experience I had with it. Even their receptionist and shop apprentice get 5 stars! I came in here looking for my first tattoo and was introduced to my artist, Danny. I had a design that I wanted and I could instantly tell that he was just as excited about the piece as I was. I didnt feel awkward or out of place being a "newbie" at all. Danny was very polite and professional and explained the process and steps we would be taking to complete my upper arm/shoulder piece. The atmosphere of the shop was fantastic. All of the artists seem to get along really well and actually enjoy working there and working together. The receptionist is as sweet as can be and made sure she kept herself busy even when it got a little slow and the apprentice was definitely there to learn and work hard. A great crew! During the actual tatttoing, Danny was very thorough and explained everything he was doing. He took some time to explain to the apprentice, Cody, what he was doing and why and how he was doing it. I could tell he has taken great pride in my piece and it makes me just that much happier to have ended up here! We got the outline and shading done in 2 1/2 hours and once it is healed, I will be going back for a few color sessions. My floral design is absolutely beautiful! I am so impressed and so pleased with it. I would recommend this shop and Danny as an artist in a heartbeat! As far as the bigger pieces so, it is $135/hour cash. $150/hour if you use a debit or credit card. They also require a minimum $50 deposit when you make your appointment that goes towards the final price. I will definitely be back!! read more

Okay where to start. When you walk into this place, it literally smells like a hospital! I mean it is sterile! If I am getting pierced, I expect the cleanliness of the place to match a doctor's office, and these guys deliver on that. Secondly, they have a great selection of body jewelry. Rivka helped me pick out a beautiful yellow gold stud that suited my skin tone, and I couldn't stop looking at it on my way home. She explained the whole piercing process, what to expect, and was very welcoming throughout the whole thing. She was also very knowledgeable about the piercing I wanted, and was quite a perfectionist. She told me everything she was doing, as she was doing it, and stopped to explain every part of the procedure so there were no surprises. Lastly, they really make you feel at home here, which is quite nice when you are nervous about getting pierced. Their piercings are reasonably priced, but the jewelry can cost you depending on what you want. However, with any kind of jewelry (and piercing) you get what you pay for. In December 2016 I had my daith pierced by Rivka and it was such an amazing experience. I could tell she was very professional while still being an amazing, funny, and bubbly person. I wanted to go fairly big for my very first tattoo -- two angel wings taking up about half my back -- so it was important to me that I find a nice place with a good artist. After visiting some condescending tattoo artists in Portland and twitching at portfolios with crooked lines from others, I found myself standing at Living Art Tattoo flipping through Austin Rose's portfolio. His shading work was incredible and I liked some of the feather wings he had done. I met him a few minutes later, a big bald guy with a tattoo'd scalp, and described what I wanted. He was about to go have lunch but he promised he'd have a sketch ready in about 45 minutes. I came back and loved it. The line work for my angel wings took about 2 hours and Austin helpfully explained every detail. It looked fantastic and it still does. I did call about a month later to try to go back in for shading but never heard back. Maybe another time. read more

Not the best customer service if you walk in, even though they take walk ins. Plus the blond lady that works there, totally unfriendly. She actually makes you feel like you are inconveniencing her by asking her a question and she is really great at avoiding you too. And when you finally get acknowledged from her....wow! These guys are great, and Damian is amazing. My 11yr old High Functioning Autistic daughter was ready to get her ears pierced. Going to a crowded mall to have a teenager rip a hole in her ear with a piercing gun that would probably leave it infected - wasn't worth the $50 we would have saved. So, my husband and I took her into Damian to have it done right. Damian was calm and patient, and enthusiastically answered every question she had. If you have experience with autistic kids, you'll know that is saying a LOT. He really knows his stuff, and was able to answer every inquiry without missing a beat. He included us as parents, but addressed my daughter since she was the client. He walked her through every part of the process, and helped her make informed decisions along the way. He took his time and made sure she thoroughly understood how to clean and care for her piercings herself. He was as obsessively precise about the cleanliness, technique, and placement of her piercings as he is with any other type. When my daughter freaked out a bit after the first ear, he gave her plenty of space but plenty of encouragement too. After the fact, he told her what a great client she was, and reassured her that he has adults come in and make a bigger fuss than her. He even gushed a little about how cool it was to be a part of such an important moment in her life. The rest of the staff was friendly, but didn't interact with us much. They were happy to turn off the death metal they normally listen to, and put some mellow reggae on instead. When she came out with her newly pierced ears, they were friendly and chatted with her about them and told her how great they looked. This was an incredibly positive experience for my daughter. She's all smiles, and none of us can say enough great things about it. ETA - It's been a few months and we've had no problems. No infections. No problems. Because Damian's care instructions were so clear an thorough, my daughter has been able to care for her ears properly all by herself. When she lost a backing and one stud fell out, about a month after her ears were pierced, we came in to get another backing. Damian insisted on sterilizing the stud and putting it back in for her, just like he would any other type, and only charged us for the new backing. He seemed genuinely happy to see us again, and to see how the piercing was working out. read more

MONEY STEALERS I put a $50 dollar deposit down to hold a tattoo appointment. Money is non- refundable. I understood that part. I get a call 1 HOUR before my appointment saying JADE wont be in for awhile due to a back injury. So I scheduled my tattoo elsewhere as I wanted my tattoo done by a certain date and paid to hold that date. Went back to ask for my deposit back since he should not get paid for cancelling the appointment. Its only professional to return the money if the customer asks... since HE WAS THE ONE WHO CANCELED. He refused to return my money. They never even called me to reschedule and its been 2 weeks! Jade im a college student and worked hard for my $50 and you didn't do ANY work for it. Stealing from a young girl and telling me to my face that you wont give my money back must have felt awesome. DONT GO TO HIM ps I was pleased with my other tattoo done by him. And had respect for him until now. But on a side note, his tattoos are very cartoony and if you want something that's realistic I wouldn't recommend his work anyways. read more

This is the 4th tattoo that I've gotten at Living Art. I believe it was under different ownership the last 3 times, I wasn't thrilled with the employees attitude when I've been here in the past but it seems like everyone in Gresham goes here cause it's easy. I wasn't planning on getting more tattoos but I went in with my friend a few weeks ago and I watched her get one, the place had a friendly vibe now and I caught tattoo fever when I watched her get one. I made my appointment about 2 weeks later with a different artist. I had a photo with me that he said couldn't be done because of the size and area it was going to be place. I was ok with that and I asked him if he could draw up a simple Lotus flower. I'm not very picky, I guess I should have been. He put it on my arm first to see if I liked it, I was nervous because I haven't gotten a tattoo in years, I had him move it down and we both agreed it was good. Anyway. When i took the plastic off the next day the flowers petals are uneven and it makes me crazy! It was a very SIMPLE drawing done by an "artist" and I'm very disappointed in it. I'll be checking out a different place to see if there's any way it can be fixed. This will be my last trip to living art. read more

Great environment to be tattooed or pierced in. All the artists are extremely talented and all my tattoos by Billy Jack have turned out gorgeous. The piercers are great, too. Very calming and will talk you through the process. I had my industrial done by Carl, and my sister and I brought her (then) 7 year old daughter to get her ears pierced by Aaron. There was a lot of legal red tape to cut through to get my niece's ears pierced (legal guardian present with a birth certificate, Aaron spoke with the little one for a bit, etc), but it was well worth it. Took my son in to get his ears pierced and was turned away. Mind you this is after I called and drove 45 minutes into town! I was told i needed to bring in his birth certificate or school transcripts to prove I was his mum. Mind you, I'm all for keeping things legal and safe, but don't tell me one thing on the phone then have someone else tell me another in person! I went to this place wanting to get a nice tattoo, and in the end one side of it is completely jacked up. I paid in the 3 digits for a tattoo with wobbly lines and blow out (I've been taking really good care of this tattoo too and I am pissed that it messed up.) Not only was it bad, but the atmosphere of the whole place was far more relaxed and not as professional as it should have been. And when I say not professional I mean they talked crap about every other tattoo shop I had been to and every shop in Oregon. Also SURPRISE RAPE JOKES ARE NOT OK(was told one by another artist in the middle of me getting my tat, it wasn't directed toward me but it was still not cool) ,They are Way to cocky, and think they are beyond the best. This was the only day I could do it, because I was leaving for college. One artist in particular left a lot to be desired. Went with my lady for a couples tattoo armed with a pic of our idea with some minor variations. What we received was a sorry 2D interpretation, and mocker, of what we wanted or what anyone would expect. Poor shading. In some places shading was nonexistant were it shouldve been. Worse yet, lines and dimensions were grossly skewed; lines that traversed other lines didnt even meet up. What happened? Artist, i use that term loosely, chris, is what happened. I cannot in good conscience recommend him. However, jade and billy jack are incredibly talented and true masters of the art. Damian did an excellent job at making sure everything was sterilized, and he thoroughly went over the aftercare procedure about what to do and what to avoid. When I came to put my down payment to reserve a spot, that acted like it was an inconvenience.
