Jade Design Studio is a friendly and inviting salon. I fly down from San Francisco for Hyunsoo, who has been cutting, styling and coloring my hair for over twenty years, starting when he worked in New York. Hyunsoo is an artist who works with hair. With Sassoon training behind him, Hyunsoo works intuitively, using his vision and talent to make the best of my hair, varying the styling gradually through time. I am too spoiled to use any other hairdresser! read more

Irene is the best and been going to her for 15 years. Color, cut - she can do it all.

I was in town for an event and needed a last minute haircut. Not only did Jade and her team welcome me as a walk in, they gave me drinks, wifi, and a place to charge my phone while I waited. The actual haircut itself was tremendous too! Not to mention a shoulder massage to boot. Great energy, great people, and a great haircut. What's note to love? Thank you Jade! read more

Jade Design Studio - Welcome area + my haircut - Hair Extensions Near Me - Santa Monica, California

My experience at this Salon was exceptionally great. Irene is a gem, with so many years of professional experience. She took the time to do a pre consult before my appointment and took the extra time to go over color choices. Working late in the evening to get it just perfect. I had been to another other salon previously and they overlapped the processing of my hair which lead to breakage and weakened hair. I was concerned to go to a new place. I'm so glad I found this talented woman and the Paul Mitchell products they use have added great shine and new life into my hair. They also smell amazing. I am also now much more educated on how I should care for my blonde locks. Which is all thanks to Irene's skilled hands she did a beautiful lightening paired with low lights and a fantastic haircut. Thanks Irene, you went above and beyond. I will definitely be returning, it's my new place and I couldn't be happier. thank you. :) read more

Of all the hair stylists I've gone to, Irene is the absolute best in everything she does ranging from children's to men's to women's haircut and color and perm and style, whatever you want, she can do it for you! My entire family goes to her and anytime we get our hair done elsewhere, we wish we came here instead. She really listens to what you want, takes all the time needed, and also gives her own input on what she thinks would better suit you as well. Highly recommend getting your hair done here! read more

Hello Yelp World! What can I say? I love me some Jade Design Studio in my life. They treat you very well at this salon and I just love going here to get my hair done super fancy. Irene is Queen! We have some fun throughout the process laughing at random stories. I booked my appointment with Irene for an updo hair style for an engagement photo shoot. My hair is super fine and thin to begin with so holding a curl is very challenging for my type of hair. Irene made sure those curls were staying and they were deliciously curly for the photo shoot. I wish I could take her with me to have her do my hair for the wedding on the east coast. You won't be disappointed when you visit Jade Design Studio. read more

In my opinion, this is by far the best hair salon in downtown Santa Monica. I have curly hair and my haircuts and colour used to be inconsistent before Jade. It was frustrating when hairstylists tried to apply their own ideas on my hair, without considering mine. Irene, as well as Yelena, listen to what the customer wants and proceed carefully, while explaining the process and asking questions. They both make very constructive suggestions and respect my wishes. This way, my desired outcome is guaranteed every time. read more

I have been going to Irene for over 6 years and I will never go anywhere else! I have very dark brown hair and she recently helped me go lighter. It looks amazing and did not damage my hair. I would fly in to see her if I ever move out of state and I currently drive an hour to see her. I promise you won't be disappointed. I have tried so many places and no one even comes close to Irene. Jade Design Studio will change your life!!! First off, IRENE and SUE are phenomenal. The reviews of Irene are definitely on point. Since I was due for a haircut and had a bad experience with my previous salon. I searched through yelp for men's salon/stylist close to my area with high ratings. I gave Jade studio a shot. It was an amazing experience and highly recommend this salon. I made an appointment with Irene and came out feeling like a million bucks. They were very welcoming, comforting and definitely made me feel like home. When there's no parking on the street, they have parking slots for you in the rear garage. Just call the studio if you can't find parking and someone will come out to guide you. Big plus! Very affordable and only Paul Mitchell products used. Irene is a very high caliber stylist and has many years of professional experience. I came in, showed Irene couple of pictures of what hairstyle I was going for and she delivered it picture perfect. Plus hair massage and shoulder massage. She is very detailed and passionate about her work. She also gives you a 7 day grace period to come back, if you feel like you need more of your hair touched up. Sue is also awesome! She's Irene's assistant. Sue will definitely accommodate you with your needs while your getting pampered. Strong coffee, water, snacks and as far as food. Lol. I referred my GF to this amazing salon and she made an appointment the next day. I went there with my GF while I had a hangover and they were quick to make me feel at home. They offered me bowl of noodles and endless coffee to get through the day. I definitely felt like they were family. Try this salon you will not regret it!!! Jade studio is now my new go to salon. THANK YOU JADE DESIGN STUDIO! read more

Irene is fantastic. I've been going to her for trims and perms for a few years now, and every time she has gone out of her way to carve out her time for me even if my appointment may take several hours. She's very committed to her clients and will not let you leave until every strand is perfect, and it shows amongst all the regulars who come bounding in through her front door with massive smiles and new stories to tell. She's friendly, will make a tea for you or offer food or just good conversation. You can tell Irene knows her stuff. She's an expert, very knowledgeable about all the ins and out of hair, and can take on any challenge (something I especially appreciate because not too many hair salons want to take on a perm these days!) She makes good recommendations- everything from how much trim I should take off for split ends, to different hair colors, how we could apply color AND perm correctly, to the options I have for hair extensions, and the difference between acid and alkaline perms. She graciously explains every question I have for her. I will continue to be going to Jade Design Studio for several more years :) read more

I wouldn't go anywhere else. Irene is the only one I trust with my hair. I never know exactly what I want and she takes the time to walk me through options to make sure I'll be happy. Sometimes she spends an hour searching pictures and she'll stay late to accommodate my schedule. On my last visit I wanted to lighten my hair at the tips but I have very dark hair and was scared. I told her do what she thinks will look good and I'm thrilled. I am so obsessed with my hair love and have gotten a million compliments. read more

I am a constant user of yelp. However, I rarely write reviews, but I must write a review for this salon from the positive experience I had. I came here for a color correction. First off, had made a mistake being cheap by going to a beauty school. What I wanted was an ashy blonde ombrè. I had showed the student and teacher a picture of the color I wanted. After they were done, I ended up with an orange/copper color, not what I asked for. After I a month of having the color that drove me crazy every time I looked in the mirror, I went to another stylist, she told me that she can fix my color and that it was simple. I know she really tried, but I still had the copper tone I so disliked. Addition, my hair was fried and damaged from all the chemical. I had started to lose hope for getting the hair color I want. One of my girlfriends referred me to Irene for the color correction. Irene was straight up front with me and told me all the steps she would have to take and also we talked about the budget before she executed the process. I liked that she was very clear on every level so that there was no surprises at the end. Overall, I was at the salon for many hours. Irene and staff were very welcoming and patient with me. They made the hours go by painlessly. In the end, I got my happy ending, the color I had asked for and wanted!! Not going anywhere else ever again! read more

A great shop to buy Paul Mitchell products or to get your hair dolled up or colored. Staff is professional and friendly.

I have been looking for a LONG TIME to find someone on the Westside who is a pro at hair extensions but is also incredibly fair, honest and transparent. Irene educates you on her process, the products available in her salon, and application choices to fit both your lifestyle and budget. She worked with me to find the right color for my tricky blonde, and made some suggestions regarding layering color that no one had ever suggested in the past! She is incredibly kind and down to earth to beat. I have a genetic condition that causes my hair to fall out in certain areas, and on top of recently having a baby, my hair was thinning and in poor condition. Irene really made me feel beautiful and confident and I'm excited to go back for my next appointment with her to make my hair dreams come true! read more

This salon is incredible!!! When I first moved to LA, I had no idea where to get my hair done. Everything was sooooo expensive (I moved to California from Oregon where hair salons are never more than $120 for a cut and color and style ) and all the places down here were just way out of my budget. I didn't know where to go at all. I didn't get my hair done for six months because I was scared someone would destroy it or I would pay hundreds of dollars for mediocre work. Jade has affordable prices and Irene does amazing work. I HIGHLY recommend it. One day I was on Google and I found Jade Design Studio. It was a Paul Mitchell teaching school so I knew it had a good reputation and people were raving about Irene. So I made an appointment and I came to Irene for an extension styling. After talking to her about my hair and what I was looking for, I left that appointment with permanent extensions that have changed my whole life. I'm not kidding. She did an incredible job explaining everything to me and helping me figure out what type of extensions would work best for my lifestyle. I've already gone back and she was even more helpful the second time! She is so knowledgeable when it comes to colors, cuts, extensions, everything! I've seen her do incredible men's cuts for an affordable price. She truly gives you what YOU want - a lot of stylists give you what they think would look best. But not here. Irene listens to her customers and does a great job. I was treated so well at Jade and I will be a long term customer! Five stars. read more

Hair Extensions!!! I've had short hair for many years and suddenly had a change of heart. Irene showed me that hair extensions could look natural! I've now had my extensions for 6 months and continuously receive comments from friends and family that knew me with short hair about how natural my extensions look. Irene is an artist at blending the extensions so that they look natural. She also educates her customers on the best way to take care of their hair. Her salon is stocked with all Paul Mitchell products including flat irons, curling irons, shampoos/conditioners, and finishing products. Irene and her staff are really nice and accommodating to the hectic lifestyles of L.A. folks. read more

First review on Yelp! After several rather unsuccessful attempts at finding a go-to hair salon, I have finally found my spot. I've been to Irene three times (going today for a fourth), and it's been the best experience I've ever had getting a haircut. Irene is welcoming, sincere and funny and great to talk to. I get my hair washed (twice!), and I feel like she really cares about me and that I'm not just another customer. She has great advice for me on taking care of my hair, and I finally have found a haircut that I feel confident with. I leave her studio feeling great about myself and looking forward to the next time I have to get my hair cut. Not to mention, the rest of her staff are super friendly. Can't say enough good things about this place. Thank you Irene! read more

Yep. Another rave review to add to the long list of Irenes rave reviews. Guys, always look at yelp before you go get your hair done. It's not a waste of time - It is the difference between a shitty hair cut and a rad hair cut. Not all hair stylists are good just because they work in a salon. ALWAYS, i repeat ALWAYS read reviews. That's why it was an easy decision to book an appointment with her because of all the wonderful things i read about her. Reviews don't lie. Irene is straight forward, honest, and detailed. She wants to know EXACTLY how you want your hair cut to be, before she does anything. She makes it very clear that you are on the same page as her before she does anything, and i love that. She did a fantastic hair cut on me, considering the right half of my hair was a whole INCH longer then the left side. It was pretty bad. It looks awesome now. She even let me blow dry my own hair because I just like doing it myself. She's the coolest. A lovely lady with great taste in music. (she had pandora on and the dixie chicks were playing. Love them.) Did i mention her prices are the best you can get ANYWHERE in Santa monica? Or all of LA for that matter? (Not including super cuts - if you want to go there that's on you). I only write reviews when somebody really pleases me. And I'm not easy to please. Thanks Irene! See you soon for high lights. Omg, did i mention she gave me a head massage while shampooing? Okay, I'm done. Thanks Irene:) read more

Thanks Irene for my awesome haircut & color. I am loving this shade of red. I would highly recommend anyone looking for a great stylist to go and see her. Oh come on. How could you not love this place? Irene was so warm and welcoming as soon as I walked into the place, and she's clearly an expert on hair. I have hip-length, very dark brown hair and wanted to put in blue highlights. I was nervous about it because I've never bleached my hair or had such a funky color before. Irene talked to me for an HOUR on different options I could use, then made an appointment for me the next day. Irene took all of my concerns into consideration and chose some unique placement for my highlights. They are really subtle and I love them! She spent some time explaining how to keep the blue color vivid, and even offered to show me how to color the highlights myself when the color washes out, since I was going to be out of the country for several months. All in all, I can't recommend Jade Design Studio enough. The prices for services are comparable to other salons at this level of skill, but the difference is that Jade clearly cares about her clients and treats them like family. She will take as much time as she needs to get it perfect, and isn't that what you want? read more

OMG.... I love what Irene done with my hair. I have been going to Irene for everything, cut, color, hair repairs. The hair cuts were always great, just as I picture it. The color, you'll never experiences the funny look of bright roots that don't match the rest. One time I was early for my appointment, I saw her go back and pick up previous highlights, she explained doing that you'll get the continuous highlights and won't look choppy. My latest was the Brazilian Blowout Treatment. I've always had that awkward wave that my ends would go the same way, or when I just air dry it would poof up, not silky smooth. Now, after the treatment.... I walk out of the shower, no need to blow dry, no need to flat iron, no products, and my hair is PERFECTLY SILKY SMOOTH...... Thank you Irene, I love my hair... read more

Thank you Irene!!!! Irene is great, very experienced and very pleasant. I was changing my haircut and I had brought in 3 pictures of shaggy bobs, Irene patiently explained me the pros and cons of each one and started with one style. This is my first yelp review - I signed up just so I could share how wonderful I think Irene is! I've been getting haircuts from Irene for about 6 years now and I've never had a bad cut. Plus, her cuts last a really long time, so sometimes I feel like pampering myself and going to get my haircut, but my hair still looks great months after it has been cut! Getting my hair cut by Irene has definitely saved me money that way. Irene is great not only at cutting hair, but also at giving consults and finding cuts that look good for your face shape and preferences. I like really easy to manage cuts where I can just shower and go and while keeping this in mind, Irene always makes my hair look great. I've tried some new styles thanks to her and loved them all. It takes me a long time to trust a hair stylist but now I just go in and give Irene a few preferences (nothing that will get in my eyes, wash and go), ask Irene what she thinks would look good on me, get suggestions from her and then get it cut. Last year I got my first asymmetrical cut and I ended up liking it so much that I got another one the next time I went in. Oh, and last year I moved to the Bay Area but I visit LA a few times a year so I just wait to get my hair cut at Irene's. She is THAT good that it's worth the wait. The last time I was there she was setting up an appointment with another client who moved to the midwest and still gets his haircut by Irene when he visits LA. Anyway, if you're looking for a really good, trustworthy, talented hairstylist that will work with you on your preferences and also does haircuts that last a long time, Irene is your woman. I really like supporting her business because she works really hard and is really helpful and friendly. Please check out Jade Design Studio! read more

Irene is awesome! I've been going to her since 2001 and was sad when I had to move out of CA to be leaving her. I had converted my brother, and my husband to her haircuts. She also did my wedding which was amazing as it was in Norcal and she had to travel. She did my hair & makeup, my mom's hair & makeup. Cut my dad's, brother's, and husband's hair. Also did hair for 4 bridesmaids, all the day of the wedding. I miss her haircuts so much! With Irene I've gone super short (where it was shaved in the back), to long layers with a heavy bang. I just got a cut in Chicago, and gotta say...it was a most miserable experience. She's also super friendly and easy to talk to. She's also very perceptive and if she sees you may be uncomfortable with the haircut she'll be sure to offer some recommendations to some changes such that you definitely will be leaving happy. With my super short hair, she had done a dramatic asymmetric cut with one side being much longer...one look in the reflection she saw the doubt tinged with fear in my eyes and just went ahead a snipped it a bit shorter so it was less dramatic, but still slightly noticeable. read more

Irene was so great. Amazingly, I was able to get a same day appointment. She was flexible and helpful. I wanted highlights. She encouraged me to find a photo on the iPad, and then explained the process, the color, and the price so that I would understand everything ahead of time. She doesn't just throw bleach on your head.. She determines where you have previous color or regrowth to make sure your new color comes out even. Her salon was comfortable and she was so friendly and down to earth. She even offered me food and drink. She was not pushy and my hair turned out great! read more
