I am a lifelong fan of Jacob's Pillow! I have been to so many performances here and enjoyed each one. I am also a frequent visitor of the gift shop, and I even took a dance class when I was younger. Most recently, I came for an outdoor dance performed by two different dance teams that had collaborated on Irish Step-dancing pieces. I was told that I would appreciate the performance because I have some Irish in my blood, not sure how that works, but I really did enjoy it! The dancers worked so well together. They glided across the stage, and they looked so happy to be there. There was one dancer in particular who really seemed like there was nowhere he would rather be. I also came for a tap dancing performance and I was in awe of all the performers who clearly put 110% into their performance. I was beyond happy with both experiences, and I've always greatly appreciated the talent and effort of all performers. read more

Another fantastic season at this magical festival. Despite covid and fires the Pillow prevails! Saw Mark Morris to kick off the holiday weekend -- wall to wall Bachrach with a live jazz band. Although I prefer exotic troupes with ethnic music, it was lovely to see Mark's new work. Luckily the air conditioning was operating for the sold-out performance. read more

Nice visit to Jacob's Pillow today as a birthday present to my neighbor on her 95th birthday. Her family history there goes back a long way but she didn't get to visit until today. Matinée performance of Häftig, a French hip-hop, circus, lighting technology group from Lyons was excellent. Full house with a very appreciative audience. We had very good seats but being just a few rows from the stage we missed out on some of the floor lighting tech. Had a late lunch/early dinner under the tent. Great service with a limited menu to choose from. They were definitely showing it was the last week of the season. Both had very good Lobster Salad rolls with super fries. Shared two desserts: a strawberry 'shortcake' and a superb Key Lime Pie. They weren't even stocking cream for my coffee...end of season blues. It amazes me each time that I go that it's only an hour and a half drive into the Berkshires with great natural beauty scenery. read more

My first time there, and what a joy. Saw a wonderful performance at their outdoor stage on Sunday by the Tulsa Ballet (who knew?). Everything about this place is a delight, with many workshops and performances going on at once. We are converts, and look forward to attending many more performances next season. read more

First time that we've been to Jacob's pillow and we had an amazing crazy evening. The Boston ballet show was tremendous with classical ballet as well as contemporary pieces. The show was stellar, but that was just the beginning. Apparently this was the last major show of the season so there was an after party with DJ. There were a bunch of dancers from the show that came as well as all the young staff and interns. Add that to the more mature patrons and you have one of the most eclectic energetic dance parties that you can imagine. Last song was 1am and there was not one person in the room that wasn't dancing. Jacob's Pillow is one of those seemingly secret places that, once discovered, will always be a wonder and a special place to return to. Jacobs pillow is basically a dance studio and school set on a beautiful farm in rural Massachusetts. The farm includes a barn with a large dance floor and piano lots of great period buildings and beautiful landscaping across a very large campus. For the last two years, I have been lucky to attend one of the free performances by the students of this incredible dance camp. The students, from all over the world, work for three weeks - each week with a different choreographer putting together and practicing for a capstone performance at the end of the week. This performance is on an incredible stage across the road from the farm seemingly perched on the edge of the mountain. It's a very special place to watch a performance and also to roam the grounds before or after. There's a gift shop and coffee shop and even a little snack bar. Last year's performance was an incredible tap program and this year was a Quentin Tarantino / Pulp Fiction-inspired modern and ballet fusion dance. Really amazing the creativity and the skill shown in each of these. You can only hope you get an opportunity to see this place. Really fantastic. read more

We just saw the most incredible ballet at Jacob's Pillow last week. The venue is so beautiful and clean. It's definitely a gorgeous place where they have cocktails outside. You can also plan to have a wedding here with an open bar and outside area. During intermission, we were having a few drinks and having snacks outside. It's a blissful and relaxing place for a summer afternoon. Perfect for parties and shows. There is also more than one theatre here to watch different shows. Simply magnificent .... Jacob's Pillow Dance Festival is a National Historic Landmark. Exquisite grounds... Beautifully manicured with an abundance of flowers and wooden barns and structures. The first place where men could openly express and enjoy their creative talents and the art of dance. Loaded with history and books and posters and film clips. Shows nightly, but Wednesday-Sunday hosts the beloved and well attended " Inside Out " performance at 6:15pm on an outdoor stage with the stunning Berkshire Mountains as a backdrop. This lasts 1/2 hour and then hosts a question and answer session. Families are welcome and there are log benches that fill fast so you can also bring a chair. This season the unparalleled Six Depot Coffee from West Stockbridge has taken over both dining stands and Haven out of Lenox occupies a tent type restaurant . If you are in the area do not miss this one of a kind venue, especially on a beautiful evening. You can walk around and explore the grounds, picnic and check out the many different exhibits and talks or the lovely gift shop. This is truly a magical place! What a great afternoon of dance and history. We brought a large group of young dancers with the Saratoga Summer Dance Intensive to watch the Royal Danish Ballet. We were given a wonderful tour of the grounds and followed this with a picnic on the lawn. Just a beautiful and natural setting. The performance was outstanding! read more

Beautiful day here in Becket but inexplicably the Inside/out performance has been moved indoors so you get to see it on TV. I drove 2 1/2 hours from Boston to sit in an old barn and watch TV! Follow up- it's like watching a bad YouTube video in a hot barn. Horrible read more

It wasn't until she took me to see a show from Jacob's Pillow Dance Theater that I really enjoy dance lessons because the dancers were so athletic and I saw them as true athlete that I got good and my mom put me in advance ballet class where I got in more fights but by then I started hurting those that picked on me and so my mother punish me by taking away my dance lessons. If I knew I had to win my fights to get out of dance class, I would have done it earlier. But, that was then and this is now. And after many years, Jacob's Pillow still puts on an amazing show. Just a couple of phone calls while working on the east coast and I was able to get some tickets and we watch and was captivated by the shear athleticism and beauty of emotions in motion. It is good to see a national landmark still has fire and energy to give to audiences. Jacob's Pillow is the longest dance festival with it's history connected to the underground railroad and famous dancers and dance from all over the world and bills itself as the only dance institution to be named a National Historic Landmark. Mom would be happy that I dragged my friends kicking and screaming and then watch as they was awed by the wonderful show by amazing dancers. I hope I get to see more shows by Jacob's Pillow when I visit my bro on the east coast. read more

Some enchanted evening, if you are lucky, you will find yourself at Jacob's Pillow. And you will never forget it. There really is something mysteriously magical about this place which is hard to describe. It might be a combination of the gold and purple light as evening approaches, along with the flowers, trees and pastoral landscape filled with pathways and meandering trails. The space is sprinkled with assorted buildings, each with their own distinct charm and character. It may sound totally weird, but this place really does feel enchanted. Even if you do not like watching dance performances, preferring to take in the Red Sox or the Patriots, leaving dance to others, give it a try. I don't think anyone would be unimpressed or uninspired by the performances. Talk about athleticism. I have been lucky enough to see some world class performances here, all in this exquisite setting that is just beyond unique. I also got to see some documentary films about Jacob's Pillow at the Great Barrington Film Festival. The films went into great detail about the history of Jacob's Pillow. I believe they sell them in the gift shop there. If you have a dancer in your life, he/she would really appreciate these movies. You can picnic, watch dance rehearsals outdoors and get to see some well-known and emerging dancers. Plus this setting is just unforgettable. A trip to western Massachusetts would be incomplete without a visit to this stunning piece of enchantment. read more

First. I wanna say that the dance itself was interesting and different. As for the outside facility it was beautiful. I'm giving this place 2 stars for two reasons. 1. Interior stage design flaw. My family and I had second row seats and had peoples heads in our way. The indoor theater we were in definitely needs a better audience layout. 2. Food. When I got to the place I thought it was a restaurant. Not by any means. Its a shack with a restaurant menu but pre packaged food. I've had lean cuisine better than the junk we got. I love the performing arts, and my daughter is a dancer so I was able to watch her perform on the Inside/Out stage which is an outdoor theater with the Berkshire Mountains as the backdrop. So amazing! Jacob's Pillow is a place filled with history both performing arts & civil war history. I did not get a chance to tour the entire grounds & have not attended a performance in the indoor theater, but intend to go back in the near future. It is a place filled with energy & appreciation for the arts which offers performances (fee & free), education & classes for all ages, and much more in the peaceful setting of the Berkshires. I love this place. I love that there is a beautiful cultural place for people to visit in Becket. The interns are very nice and have always been very friendly. I don't like the idea of renting out the vendors though. The pillow used to be a community and used to be very connected but this summer they rented out the vendors to no. Six depot and Haven cafe and Bakery which really separated the community of the pillow. read more

WOW, nothing like seeing contemporary pieces being brought to life with grace by amazing dancers at the outdoor stage overlooking the mountains. My family and I were also welcomed in the rehearsal studios to check out upcoming works for free! The eatery is a bit pricey but lovely ambiance. The parking lot is only a 5-10 minute walk away and we saw staff on golf carts in case someone needed assistance. A DEFINITE MUST! read more

This is the second year we've been here. We both love dance and this place has some of the best! The grounds are lovely and just wandering around is a pleasure (and you can do that free). They also have the free Inside/out series which is a short outdoor dance program in a lovely amphitheater with the mountains as a backdrop. We saw two shows in that series over the 3 days we were at the pillow. Also saw Tero Saarinen company's "Borrowed Light" which was an amazing combination of dance, lighting and music (the Boston Camarata on stage with the dancers). This is hard to describe but well worth seeing. We were blown away. Also saw the Men Dancers: Tales from the horses mouth. We were expecting recreations of Ted Shawn dances but instead it was a compelling juxtaposition of short persona stories told by the dancers and them dancing. Only 4 people on stage at any point but as the newest one would come on to tell a story the one who had been on stage the longest (each did 3 variations) would go off.
