However, Bennington was just a bit too small for me. Like Marlboro & Goddard, it was one of the three Vermont colleges I applied to, and it was just TOO small. The town of Bennington is cute and quaint, but hardly a cultural mecca. Hampshire was still the MUCH better overall fit. Granted, Bennington is probably more academically renowned, but I still couldn't see myself there for four years. One of the most BEAUTIFUL campuses out of all the colleges I applied to though. Bennington definitely scored high on that aspect.

It's very very small, the entire campus is centered around "the Nott" (attached photo) while a few buildings and several old beautiful houses circle it; the Admissions Center for example is a restored mansion, cool! Having gone to UT at Austin myself, the small size of the campus blew me away...and made me a bit jealous (I think the size of boyfriend's graduating class was the size of my Chemistry 101 class!) I'm wondering if the folks who attend here realize just how lucky they are. The few blocks surrounding the college are charming (Jay street for example), but Schenectady itself is pretty unsavory. Stick to campus.

The best part is they are free and open to the public. They offer a range of classes for different age groups such as creative writing, performing arts, culinary arts, digital arts, studio art, crafts, dance, and more. I found out that the last Friday of every month being Troy Night Out, makes a great night out exploring arts and culture. The exhibits are open during the day and seem to draw me in after brunch in Troy. I find them pretty unique and definitely one of a kind. I'm hoping to take some classes in the near future such as sculpting with clay or a few of the culinary classes. Overall a simple and neat arts center with plenty of activities for art and culture seekers.

The gentleman running the gallery was wonderfully pleasant even though we weren't buying anything. He gave us some recommendations for dining and enjoying our evening during the quiet Bennington winter nights. It is in an old bank, with a lot of interesting placement for different artists works. It is worth a stop if passing through Bennington.
