First night in queenstown and was looking for some food and drinks for our jet lagged selves…read more Smiths did not disappoint. My partner had the lamb burger, we shared the poutine, and I had the venison pot pie. Portion sizes are huge so I had to take away some of my pot pie and some leftover poutine in a box. Taste wise, my partner enjoyed his burger, we both loved the poutine, and the venison pot pie was good but a little too sweet for my liking. The poutine, while used mozzarella instead of cheese curds, was our favorite and would just come here to order a few orders of that. We also got a flight to share to try some local brews including 3 sours, 1 ginger beer, 1 cider, and 1 lemonade. They were all good and I especially liked the ginger beer on the menu. The alcoholic lemonade was also quite nice and better than any alcoholic lemonades I've had in the states.

A day latter and the Smith Burger is everything I'm looking for, It was a perfect medium rare, I didn't ask for - but nonetheless so good, a great combination of sauces and garnishes made this one of the super burgers I've eaten. So delicious and satisfying. Moist, flavorful, and just so damn good - it's everything thing the Fergburger wasn't. I tried the fried cauliflower as well -wonderful-be brave and get the hot. A fantastic beer selection as well.

Came here on a recommendation for lunch…read more Rustic, homey, comfortable atmosphere. Large fireplace and seating outside. A couple, smaller fireplaces inside. Beautiful view of the water and of the planes descending over the water to land at the nearby airport. As we've discovered while on holiday here, the overall quality of food (ingredients, preparation, cooking and presentation) in New Zealand is above par! You can see and taste the freshness in everything you eat. The food at Frankton Arm Tavern is no exception. We had the cheesy bacon fries, chicken wings, and kids mac and cheese (of course). EVERYTHING was delicious - especially the wings. They were perfectly cooked with a thick, sticky, sweet, bbq sauce on top (a little tang would have been nice, but they were delicious none the less). The girls, unfortunately, didn't like the mac and cheese. Unfortunately (for them) the cheese wasn't cheddar (or processed cheddar), maybe edam instead, and it was flavored with herbs and cumin. I, on the other hand, LOVED IT! We've also found the service everywhere in NZ to be exceptionally welcoming, pleasant and helpful. The gentlemen at the bar here were all of the above. Frankton Arm Tavern is a MUST when you're in Queenstown! Note: DO NOT confuse with the Frankton Ale House which is a block or so away and is a Chinese restaurant. We mistakenly walked into the Frankton Ale House and were greeted with stares from the Chinese patrons (you know, the "wtf are you doing here?" face) and pointedly ignored by the Chinese staff. Felt just like home. Ha.

When in Queenstown... This place is known for their ice bars, so I knew I had to try one of them…read more This one was under $30 for 1 hour experience, including 2 drinks (mocktails available), jackets and gloves. The exterior was cute with a huge, adorable furry polar bear in front. We were fitted for our jackets, given a short tutorial, then it was time to enter the icy wonderland. The interior was a bit smaller than expected, but it was impressive, as the whole space was made out of ice and bathed in colorful lighting. There were also quite a few elaborate ice sculptures, mostly of animals, such as a life size horse, eagle, penguin, and more. There were also several ice chairs and benches, with fur on top, indicating they could be sit on. Since I was only getting mocktails, I was able to select 4 drinks. Bartender was welcoming and wonderful. The drinks were made in front of you and poured into a cup made of ice, which could be smashed afterwards. The mocktails consisted of flavors such as Apple, Pineapple, Kiwifruit and Pineapple, Lime, Coconut. They were sweet, fruity, and refreshing. We stayed the full hour, until the song "Ice Ice Baby" was played. It was nice to be there the whole time, because toward the end there were only a couple of us, which made for much better photos! I had a lot of fun and really enjoyed this icy time!

It's a small bar, but there are not a lot of groups at one time so you have room to move around and take photos. The drinks are ok, pricey for what they are but you're paying for the experience. The staff gives you gloves and jackets to wear and I stayed plenty warm. The music and the lights are a fun touch and you can feel free to touch all of the sculptures. If you've never done an ice bar, this is a good one to check out.

I really wanted to like this place. After sitting down and dealing with the super nice staff I was…read moreon my way to composing a 5 star review... until I had the food. I ordered onion rings and a Carnivore BBQ pizza. Both looked amazing (pictures posted) but looks can be deceiving and my meal was very deceptive. The onion ring portion was very generous but they were over cooked, almost burnt. I could live with it since it came with ketchup and a lovely garlic aioli - the second onion ring I but into had a blond hair in it. I wanted to throw up I was so disgusted. I was hungry so I moved on to the pizza - looked and smelled great but the crust was awful and the toppings tasted frozen. The 2 stars was for the great service. This place will always have customers as it's attached to the two Hilton hotels in town.

Half and half pizza: stacks favourite and wine's mate. Pizza was pretty salty... :( the bottom of the pizza was soggy instead of crispy. The salt and pepper calamari was deep fried but not battered. It was oddly tender instead of chewy/ and springy. I don't know if I liked it or not haha. Even though it was deep fried it was soggy on the outside. I wanted a crunch! Overall it was okay... it is a convenient location. I wish they paid more attention to us after we ordered and served our food. They had a lot of TVs playing 80s music videos. Very interesting hahah. It's a CONVENIENT LOCATION. So still worth going if you don't want to go to the town center.

We were seated fast and ordered 2 coffees and pancakes with a pastry. My biggest standout were the pancakes, I'm a simple guy who likes my pancakes and they were oh so fluffy, chewy, dense and honestly that filled me up surprisingly a lot because I wasn't expecting them to be so big. They put real cherries and cream on top. The serving sizes are definitely generous. I ordered my go-to breakfast item, which is their Vudu Benedict ($30NZD), along with a cup of their Housemade Lemon Honey Ginger ($6). You order at their counter in the middle of the shop, and then they give you a number to take to your table. The tea came out pretty quickly, and the benedict followed maybe about 10 minutes after. The benedict was good, and while there was only 1 egg, the whole thing stuffed me for hours afterwards. The bread at the bottom was definitely the most filling part, and I was struggling to finish it all. They had a glass display with various bakery items, and they looked so good I was so tempted to get something even though I was stuffed from the benedict. If I ever come back to Queenstown I would definitely be coming back here to try some of those bakery items.
