I've been in the UK for three months now and finally found a "chippie" that looked worthy of visiting. Located in the same shopping plaza as the Asda (reviewed separately), I was pleasantly greeted when I walked in. It only took me a moment to determine that the special was the "regular cod and chips" so I ordered that.
There are separate prices for eat-in compared to take-away, which might be normal for Brits but is unusual for an American. Not a problem, I paid an extra £1.
The fish was cooked to order and was brought to me at the table. Very hot, I had to wait a bit for it to cool. The batter was nice and crispy. Inside, the fish was light and flaky and very delicious with a few drops of the table vinegar. The chips ("fries" in American) were standard.
Overall, a good experience. I'm glad I waited. I would return to this place! read more
