The Jabberwocky - A Jabberwocky Toastie

How can the makers of the very fine "Manwich" not have any reviews indeed? It's definitely time to…read morechange that... I first came across Barny and Flic's very fine van and it's offerings on my first trip to Digbeth Dining Club. Their beautiful green behemoth of a van offers Toasties... Nothing more, nothing less. Now, that might sound a little boring; but read on my dear friends! Let's start with the Manwich... As taken from their website: "The only toastie whose consumption deems you to be worthy of nothing less that the eternal reverence of your peers. A triple-decker leviathan of bacon, pastrami, ham, chorizo, cheddar, mozzarella, monterey jack, onions, hot sauce and, of course, a 28 day aged 4oz Warwickshire steak." Sounds good right? It IS. You WON'T be hungry after this. They have less mega offerings and deal with locally sourced meats, cheeses and (of course) veggie offerings. If you aren't content with just savoury; they have also offered sweet toasties when I have visited. Think thick slabs of bread with chocolate spread, marshmellows, peanut butter.... You get the idea. Don't worry, my mouth is watering too (this is a really bad review to write when you're on a diet). The guys who run the van are great! On one visit to see the Jabberwocky, we had a natter about why they got started... Basically, to escape the daily grind the guys decided to be their own bosses and bought the truck, designed their menu and now wing their way around Leamington Spa and Birmingham dealing out delicious toasties to the hungry crowds at streetfood events and markets. As a side note, I believe you can also hire them to come and cater for your event... I don't think you would have any disappointed guests with these guys doing the food! A Manwich (from memory) was about £7/£8 - but was a beast of a meal. Other offerings start from around £6 and the dessert offerings are even less. If you haven't tried these guys before, go and say hi to Barny and Flic! You might just fall in love with this foodstuff of kings all over again...

Run by a couple who are focused on providing a delicious, locally sourced toastie assault on the taste buds. Well known for their triple deckers like The Manwich and Old McDonald which are packed with combinations of meats and cheese that you can only dream of. They've even put a whole Christmas dinner in a toastie! It doesn't stop there though there's also pudding! Think about Millionaires shortbread , Rocky Road or even good old banoffee. They've all been given the toastie treatment. So next time you spot the Jabberwocky van, head over and order the biggest toastie you can muster. You will not be disappointed! In fact you'll be hooked!

Yayayayayayayayayayayayayayayay!…read more I found a place that sells healthy & reasonably-priced salads to go right here in W1! I thought I would never see this day... Goodge Place Market is a tiny food market in the likes of its bigger siblings like Leather Lane & Whitecross Markets in Easternish London. Here they only have a total of six stalls, but all of them serve delicious foods: - Burritos (Freebird Burritos) - Salad Boxes (£ 4.50 per box) - Thai food (Simply Thai) - Falafel (Hoxton Beach) - Köfte wraps/sandwiches That's really all I could've wished for...I feel so blessed having discovered this market!

By the time I'd reached Goodge Place, I'd walked in and out of more than a few chain shops, unable to find something which ticked both the 'affordable' and 'healthy' boxes. Then I came across this market. I spied a salad stall, and decided to go for that. After all, it was pretty decently priced at £4 for a large box of sundried tomatoes, cous cous, aubergines, beans and other vegetables. To my surprise, the salad also came with a thick chunk of Turkish bread, which made it even better value for money. There's an assortment of other stalls here as well - Mexican, Thai, falafels - and they're here Monday to Friday.

There are several selections of wrap: steak, bulgogi turkey (will go back to try that), vegan, etc. We popped in here after our Salad Kitchen plans were foiled (burst pipe!) -- this stall is usually right across the street from SK, so here we go. The cute hand drawn menu drew me in, as did the smell of bulgogi...mmmmm. The good: Fresh wraps! Interesting composition! Big! Huge portion of the steak wrap...it felt like a burrito. 7.50 might seem steep but the quality of the meat was high and it was made fresh right in front of us. Very good value. The maybe-not-so-good: The ingredients are wrapped in nori (seaweed paper and then wrapped in actual paper. Unfortunately, they are super messy to eat, unless there is some trick I am unaware of. Foil might be a better choice? I don't know but ish was everywhere, I was glad to be with a close colleague and not with those I would need to look proper in front of! The bubble tea- meh. It was just sitting up on the counter (I thought it would be made fresh and these were just an example set of teas) -- and I don't know about you, but I don't really want milk tea that's been sitting for a long period of time, you know? Plus they mixed boba with the jelly balls, I hate the jelly balls. I wanted all boba. This is a pretty big thing with bubble tea -- so I basically didn't like mine at all. I would skip it next time return. Overall, a solid little spot - sans the old bubble tea. The wraps are nice, I'd love an option to get the ingredients on a salad or in a bento box type thing, for ease of eating. But the goods are fresh, and that's the most important thing. *open with weekday lunchtime market. *cash only.

Eating on the go & stuff. BUT...this "thing" aka wrap aka bibimbap is delicious. I went for the bulgogi steak, and to be honest, I could stand next to this steak being cooked all day long. 7£ is well, not cheap, but you'll be fed for a few hours, trust me :)

Best hog dog in London? You bet!…read more I have sampled a Big Apple hot dog on a couple of occasions and if different locations, but the most memorable was at Grillstock in Bristol. I was there for the weekend, so on the Saturday I treated myself to a 'Huge Pole' a succulent 8 inch beef & pork dog sausage seasoned with sage, mace and cayenne peppe, a real mouth fall, really delicious! Then on the Sunday we were back, my mate Dave was chatting away to the owner Abiye and the topic food challenges came up, then Abiye laid down the challenge, some guy had done a double 'Huge Pole' but someone needed to take it up a notch, yep, that guy was me. The Triple Pole: The deal was I had to fit a everything in my gob and have a bite, then I had to finish the beast and If I completed the challenge, the 'Triple Pole' would be on Abiye. Guess what? I demolished it with ease, and the main reason was the standard of those sausages, so tasty I manged three of the buggers and that's why Big Apple Hot Dogs is the best hot dog in London.

Hotdogs are street food and should be eaten on the street after having drunk more than you should have been allowed. Sauces and condiments should be added and spilled liberally on expensive trainers. It's the law. AND the hotdogs are very very good. If you're looking for the traditional hotdog- the Big Frank is the epitome. It's exactly what you want. If not, go for the the Big Dog. It's a polish sausage of impressive stature. Not down with pig? Get the 100% beef dogs. You know you want to. I have to stop here because I feel slightly uncomfortable. I keep wanting to describe things, but all I keep coming up with words like Huge and Succulent and in conjunction with various terms for sausage, it's a bit... um.. suggestive. So, in conclusion - Go find Big Apple Hot Dogs and feast on the hottest, juiciest, most meaty pork swords/tube steaks London has to offer.
