    The Burger Joint

This place does exactly what it says on the tin... Burgers! And good ones at that!…read more This is a brand new restaurant open this weekend, they have a sister restaurant on Whiteladies road (just a few miles away) which has really taken off, so it seems like the natural thing for them to do. So tonight was really busy, pretty much every table taken, this didn't matter though we were shown straight to our table and given menus. You place your orders on tick box forms, and then give them back to the waiting staff. There's loads to chose from with out being over whelmed. Basically you chose your meat (or veggie burger) there's about 8 options inc lamb, chicken etc. then an extra filling, 2 sauces and a side all for around £8, bargain! Food was delivered to the table within 10 minutes, I would highly recommend the 6oz beef burger, grilled bacon and blue cheese with a side of fries, yummy!!!! My friend had the 6oz beef, Cheddar and onion rings which look equally delicious and somewhat mouth watering! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and the service was faultless. I really like the decor, clean, crisp and modern with no gimmicks which is a refreshing change to some other burger places around. They have an out side decked sitting area at the front, which considering this place is on a bustling high street really catches your eye and quiet inviting. Great for couples and small groups, I probably wouldn't want to take a big group of rowdy friends, apart from anything else they probably wouldn't fit many in. I would definitely go back and recommend to others.

The service was excellent, the staff were very friendly, welcoming and very helpful to me with my buggy - there are some steep steps to get up to get into the building but someone came and helped me in (not sure how wheelchair users will get in but I'm sure they'll have that covered) I opted for the straightforward beef burger and my friend went for the wild boar burger, I had pulled pork and cheddar cheese as a topping (pulled pork on a burger it would turn out is delicious) I loved the fact that you got free refills on soft drinks, left there buzzing having drunk way too much coke!! I ordered corn On he cob as a side as my baby loves it and also some hash browns. The only thing stopping me from giving this 5 stars was the chips, we went for hand cut chips which were more like wedges than chips and not that nice, next time I will go for fries though and maybe I'll update this with an additional star. I also do fear that on a busy week day lunch time the place may become too rammed up with buggies as north street is parent central, I'm sure the management will be able to come up with an innovative solution though. All in all a very nice meal, we didn't pay but if we had I would have come away feeling that I had got very good value for money.

The crowd of people…read moremade me think it was great but I am really not impressed with this place especially since i came in with high expectations. I've heard that five guys was good while I was in the states but never had the chance to try them out. I did have In N Out burger often (which this place is very similar to in terms of style and serving and the limited menu which consists of burgers, cheeseburgers and bacon burgers) The difference here mainly is that you can add on a bunch of different toppings like grilled mushroom etc-(I'll post the menu) and that they have sandwiches and no delicious shakes or root beer. So I ordered and was excited about having my burger stuffed with deliciously grilled mushroom and onion, lettuce, pickles and tomato. I got the small sized burger which is essentially the same size but with a single meat patty. If I didn't ask I would have assumed they were kid size burgers. However, I was pretty disappointed with the result (photo posted) The tomato was green-which is a personal pet peeve. I need my tomatoes to be always be a rich red. There were only a few scraps of lettuce and the mushrooms lacked the meaty and grilled goodness that they should have. I wish the onions were cut thinner and caramelised properly too. They also don't ask how you would like your meat (mine was medium well from what I could see)however the meat was probably the only tasty part of the burger so I almost wished I ordered it without the bread which you can do. The bun really wasn't special and didn't taste fresh. Okay-so the chips were nice. They also post where they got their potatoes from on a board every day. They are big and chunky and you get a lot but was it worth 2.75? Not sure. There was a bit too much salt for my taste and I like them slightly crispier which these are bit on the soft side. I need to try the new shake shack in covent garden to compare how this place holds up but I have a feeling it will be much much nicer. If you're looking for a good burger in reading you're probably better off going somewhere else outside of reading since I don't know a place here with excellent burgers yet. Maybe if byron burger opens up or gourmet burger co. Although the one I wish will open here is Stacked burger which I had while I was in the states. The most delicious burgers Ive ever had. You can build your own burger on ipads on your seat and the variety is amazing. I miss it more now! So yah- you can get much nicer meals for the price (7.50 for one patty hamburger and little fries without a drink)

I've had it a few times in the states and have always enjoyed it so I was looking forward to a similar experience at the Reading location. I walked up to the counter and the lady who took my order was very friendly. I'm picky about what goes on my burger and she got everything right. I sat at the bar stools which overlook the river and shops/restaurants below, nice view and great for people-watching. Here's where the experience started to go downhill a bit. The lady behind the counter mentioned that they would call my number once my food was ready, but the music was blasting so I couldn't hear them. One of the six or so staff members standing around idly could have easily walked it over to me (there were about 10 other people in the restaurant and I was the only one without food so pretty obvious it was mine). I can kind of overlook this though, guess it's half my fault for not paying more attention. By the time I finally walked over and got my meal, it was a bit lukewarm. The portion sizes are good, I got the "little" burger and "little" fries and both were pretty hefty. The burger was really tasty, had no issues with it, same as I remembered. The fries were pretty limp, which was disappointing. My whole meal came out to £10 (drink included). Overall I was satisfied, but probably wouldn't come back to dine in with the annoyingly loud music. Good burger though, I might get just the burger (hold the fries) to-go in the future.

Butch Annie's is the one of the best burger joints I've ever had. And in the UK, too!! Best was the Jack and the Rosemary chips. Liked the shakes, liked the Oh La La. Servers were kind and prompt. Fun ambience.

The restaurant description: Finest dry-aged beef, cheddar cheese, tomato, date & walnut jam, caramelised onions, rocket, honey & truffle mayo. I had the burger sans onions and it was quite good. The sweetness of the date & walnut jam was a nice balance to the umami flavor of the beef. The bun held up well with all the ingredients in-between which made for a pleasant dining experience...if you've ever had a burger on a disintegrating bun, you'll appreciate a good quality bun like they use here. The Parmesan and Truffle Chips we're just okay. Not much parmesan and any truffle oil used was not detectable. I would probably just recommend the regular chips instead. Overall I'm recommending Butch Annie's for when you're in Cambridge and craving a high quality burger. They also have a pretty good Classic Rock playlist going (for your listening pleasure) so your ears don't get jealous of your tongue.
