I was recommended this place by a cab driver in Reading and he did warn me about the decor in the…read moreplace. It's called Punjabi Grill and the minute you walk in it looks like a kebab shop as does the menu. Curry, Pizza and Burgers in the same shop. I usually stay miles away from places like this but in this instance I thought I would give it a go. And am I glad I did. I ordered a Palak Paneer, Sheek Kebab and two Tandoori Rotis and the total bill including a bottle of water was £6.20....wow :-)) The food arrived hot, Rotis were freshly made and they also gave me a side salad with mint yogurt to go with the meal. The palak paneer was divine and took me back to my days travelling India and eating at roadside eateries called Dhabas. The Sheek kebab was also tasty albeit a bit dry. All in all a fabulous meal and the place was full of Indian and Pakistanis and like me they were enjoying themselves immensely. One guy at another table was tapping his lamb shank bone to get every bit of marrow and sauce out of it. Another guy licked clean his Biryani and another the same with his pizza. All I can assume is that the other dishes were as equally good as mine. Definitely coming back here for a cheap feed when in Reading. Don't let the looks or the menu fool you ;-)) This place is not located in the best part of town and it is all about the food and nothing more. Drinks list is minimal water or fizzy drinks. Wish they had Lassi on the menu :-(

After ordering two donor kebabs from Chicken base I was waiting for two hours. I decided to call…read morethem to check where my order was. I was then met with a barrage of profanity and insults inviting me to go there in a violent way. I decided to go and ask at chicken base about my order when I arrived they continued to be complacent about my order and although they weren't violent as they were on the phone they still remained to ignore my grievances and told me to leave and call the delivery driver (who was clearly the man we spoke to on the phone). However, the man we spoke at Chicken Base after he aggressively told us to go there in a threatening way told us to leave and passed the buck to his own colleague once we complained. Customer service at this establishment is beyond poor. I would never recommend anyone to go to this establishment.

I ordered their Spicy Rice Bowl, which comes with spicy rice (but not too spicy, just right) with long broccoli, pickled cauliflower which was tangy and houmous (hummus) with PERi-PERi seeds. It was really good all together, made a delicious bite. I did add pulled chicken to mine to get some protein, and it was seasoned well. My husband enjoyed his chicken wing experience. He got them at a hot level and he was sniffling his way through the delicious flavors as it kept his nose running. We did get sides of fries as well and those were crispy and flavorful. I really liked our sides of corn on the cob, spicy rice, butternut squash, and broccoli. They might have changed the name so it's 'healthier' but the "F" still stands for "Fried". Various parts of chicken cooked in hot oil into different shapes and parts. Popcorn chicken or 'hot rods' or just a fried chicken breast on a bun (plus mayo and cheese). I tried for a lighter side dish instead of fries, but the corn is still drenched in a heart-attack inducing quantity of butter. The staff are ok, sometimes you get someone who isn't really too good with english and they make mistakes with your food but 90% of the time its all fine, and there are lots of seats and its normally quite clean too.

Take a seat and get your table number, study the menu and then go up to the till ('register' in American) to place your order and pay for it. When it's ready, someone brings it to your table. The chicken is excellent. Several varieties of spice levels, ranging from Extra Hot, Medium and Lemon & Herb or Mango & Lime. I particularly enjoy the Medium, which I find just at the top level of my tolerance for spiciness. They offer the chicken in pieces - quarter, half or whole - as well as a variety of wraps, burgers and pitas. If you're not a meat-eater, they have Portobello mushroom, veggie and bean options. Sides. Oh, the sides! Almost good enough by themselves - I usually go with the corn on the cob, mashed potatoes or coleslaw, but the mashed peas and spicy rice might be more to your liking. I've not tried the desserts, but the ice creams and assorted cakes look good when I see others partaking. Drinks are unusual for a UK restaurant.
