We come from Hawaii, where there is a plethora of Chinese and or Asian restaurants, so we were quite picky about our Chinese food. We have a lot of food ordered from Jacks tonight and there was no meat/shrimp/scallops or enough vegetables. The meal was very expensive and I am most disappointed with the lack of food provided. We only order from Jacks but it's not worth it. The food did taste good. Only there was not nearly enough. Two stars because it tasted good. read more

Delicious Chinese food at affordable prices. Highly recommend trying one of the chow mein and fried rice variations. The food isn't overly greasy, and the portions are quite generous. The shop isn't very large, and folks seem to prefer takeout to dine-in (since pre-COVID). If only they could deliver to us! If I'm passing through the area, I'd stop by again for lunch or dinner. I'd like to try more of the menu, and I think I missed out on some good appetizers. I know this is a small business, so I really hope they make it through the pandemic. We had a delivery tonight and the food was not quite what we expected from these reviews. Veggies in the Buddhist Veg were overcooked, the broccoli was so soft it seemed previously frozen. The hot and sour soup was bland, and the rice was pretty gummy. I'm really sorry to post this and I wanted to contact the restaurant directly, but they only seem to have a land line: there was an odd... thing in the Buddhist Veg. I wanted to show them the pic but I'll post it here. I'd love to know what anybody thinks it is. It was stretchy but taut. I know what I think it is but I want a different answer. read more

It like getting Mad Greek pizza instead of Dominos, ya it might be 80 bucks for everything you want vice 60 bucks, but you will actually want to eat all the leftovers. We had a hunkering for some Chinese takeout to eat at Layritz ballpark prior to watching the skills competition in the Canadian Little League Softball Championships that our daughter was competing in. Had no idea of how good the chow was! We ordered deep fried prawns, chow mein, chop suey, fried rice, egg rolls, ginger beef, sweet and sour pork. Only quibbles were that the prawns were a little overlooked, but nevertheless the batter was very good; and the egg rolls were a little on the greazy side. The entirety of the rest of the food was very fresh, tasty and not Greasy or overly salty--NO MSG! The ginger beef was good, but not on par with Joseph's Szechuan which has hands down, world's best. Portions were big and prices reasonable. Order was prepared quickly while we waited. While not the best Chinese food we have ever had, it definitely ranks in the top 10. If you're in the neighbourhood and get a sudden craving for Chinese, you won't be disappointed. Keep up the good work Jack! And pull out the deep fried prawns a little sooner read more

We ordered a seriously HUGE order from here for lunch at work. (Chinese New Year is a cause for celebration, and Chinese food!) Jack's was really great about it. Had our order ready on time, threw in lots of utensils and plates and fortune cookies and sauces, very friendly, and most importantly, very delicious! Their chow fun was out of this world. And the almond chicken got devoured by my coworkers before I could try any, so I assume it is also quite good. Very pleased, indeed. read more

I have been coming here for about 8 years. Back then, this place was great. Then there was about a 2 year hiatus and I decided to pop in for dinner to avoid a traffic jam. And it has seriously gone downhill. I have always found the waitress rude .. when I get served my order I say "Thankyou".. but she always just kind of grunts at me. I did notice that some regulars came in and she treated them like gold. Maybe it's cause they had an Easter gift for her. Anyways the food is about the same as usual. Nothing super fancy but it's acceptable. The atmosphere could be better. And it could be cleaner. The tables are sticky and the walls and carpet a little dirty. Not overly so. It is with great disappointment that I submit this opinion. Our household has enjoyed Jack's food for over 30 years. Whether the owners have changed the integrity and recipes have been continuous. In the past few months the quality and taste of the food has been substandard to the Jack's we have known all these years. Tonight, our food was cold, there was spillage from the soup that damaged the cookies and we were given a 10% discount (at the time we didn't realize how cold our food was). To top off the disappointment was the way we were spoken to by the manager when we phone to express the patronage over the years and how disappointed we were and he made it clear the discount was sufficient and we were abruptly hung up on. This is our favourite Chinese restaurant in Victoria and we've been coming here for at least a dozen years. Food is fabulous and the service is exceptional. The staff is friendly and very accommodating: They are very flexible with changes and special orders. We've tried most of the menu, but our favourites? Hot and sour soup, wor wonton soup, spring rolls, ginger fried chicken, salt & pepper Squid, jip way crispy noodles, gailan with oyster sauce (special order), lettuce wraps and Buddhist veggies. However, there are lots of choices and we've never had a dish we didn't like. Jack's is very popular for take-out, but as we live on the other side of town, we prefer to dine in and we always leave happy. Highly recommended. read more

Awesome Chinese Food!!!! We recently moved to the island and have been on the search for a good place for Chinese food. We tried a few places and were disappointed in the food. Jack's, however, was amazing! We will not go anywhere else now. The service was awesome, and the food was DELICIOUS! Everything we ordered was hot and tasty! The meals were full of fresh vegetables that were cooked to perfection (not soggy). I thought we had a good Chinese place in Windsor, but Jack's put it to shame!
