The no sales tax plus the fact that some of the shoes were on sale lured me in. I ended up dropping $250, $105 for a pair of cool green distressed Fluevogs, and $150 for a pair of wild ass powder blue MBT's. I also got my sister a little cool hand purse. My friend got a really nice pair of New Zealand Hurraches. I have been wearing the same shoes for years, so now I have some funky new ones.

Village Shoes could have: - paid for the return shipping and sent a replacement pair that matched or - paid for the return shipping and given me a refund or -offered me a partial refund reflecting the fact that they had sent me defective goods but instead they insisted that the mismatched shoes were fine and made me pay for return shipping and then refunded only the cost of the shoes, leaving me without the shoes that I wanted in the first place. The whole ridiculous experience cost everyone involved money and time, and frankly made no sense. Unless they just don't care about keeping customers.

I happened to stroll into this establishment with a friend and it was clean, organized, and full of inventory. I explained I wanted to get it running, didn't know much at all, and had a general idea of what I was looking for. He immediately jumped in to disassembling the car and explained everything I would need with a breakdown of price and a comparison of quality. He spent a very long time assisting me and even opened a fresh motor off the shelf just to test my car. He did not try to sell me anything I didn't need. In the end I left with a new car after adding everything up and realizing it was a better choice. I only interacted with the hobby side of the store, but the bike desk service seemed great from the probably 30-35 minutes I was in the store. I cannot recommend this place enough!

Ian and Peter provide expert, fast-turnaround service. They have a good stock and access to top brands of parts, accessories, and clothing. But Flywheel is more than that. They are the hub of the biking community in the Rogue Valley. They have up to seven local microbrews on tap, so you can relax at the counter, watch you bike being repaired, and share stories with other local riders. Every Wednesday night from 5-8pm, they host a local food truck, so you can meet up with friends (and make new ones) while you eat and enjoy beer, wine, or soda on their hop-garden patio. Learn about the Flywheel-supported events. Meet their sponsored riders. Make it your ride destination. They support all styles of cycling: road, gravel, cyclocross, adventure, cross-country, downhill, all-mountain, electric. They even installed solar panels and will soon add e-bike charging stations. From novice e-bikers to semi-pro enduro riders, everybody is welcome. I bought an endurance bike there the day I arrived in town. Just this week, I picked up hard tail mountain bike for fire road rides. The bikes are perfect for me with the help of Flywheel's recommendations. I won't get them serviced anywhere else. Even if you're not quite ready to buy a bike, come on down, have a beer, and engage with the community - especially on food truck nights. It's more than a bike shop. It's a destination.

So as much as I'd like to surprise her with a bike and a bow under the tree, that's not going to happen, unless I enjoy seeing my Lovely Bride's disappointed face. When we were in Ashland last week, I walked Gayle over to Ashland Cycle Sport. Gayle was hesitant as she didn't want to lead anyone on regarding a sale. She also started to feel guilty about possibly cheating the State of California out of sales tax revenue when Cities like Walnut Creek needed the revenue. I simply told here that if she found a bike that that was the right match for her, we would buy it right then and there, and store it in back of our small SUV and take it home. It's easy for me to get intimidated at bike shops as it's a language I don't speak and I'm sensitive to the judgmental attitudes that are sometimes found within. That was definitely not the case at Ashland Cycle Sport. The Dude who met with us was both helpful and polite and did a good job running us through the various street bike and hybrid options. One downside of all this is that Gayle left even more confused about what she wanted. Well at least, I now know her boundaries! Thank You Ashland Cycle Sport for putting us on the right road. I'll try to return the favour on the next bike we need.
