I used to shop at Jackalope and loved visiting with the 2 cats who were residents for years. New owners arrived and the cats disappeared. As a follow through, I found out that the cats went to a local resuce org with a promise of donating money for future vet care. Jackalope never followed through on their commitments with a donation. Actions speak louder than words. Not a business I would like to visit anymore. read more

This is such an interesting store. There are SO many things to look at, crafts, accessories, some local grocery items, garden decor, pottery, ornaments, furniture...the list goes on and on. We stopped here for nothing in particular, but ended up buying some pottery, seasoning, and souvenirs. I could imagine that people end up staying here for a really long time looking at everything. This place has a lot of "personality". I don't have a better word for it, but definitely very intriguing. If you stop in, prepare to look at hundreds of things! It's impossible to rush through this store. As an added bonus....there was a super cute and lazy cat sleeping in the store! :) read more

Jackalope is a great place to wonder around on an afternoon in Santa Fe. They have a huge variety of furniture, gifts, trinkets, masks, food and anything else southwestern that you can imagine. Some of it is a bit marked up, price wise... But it's still a lot of fun to shop this eclectic market! read more

This place was pretty cool, has a lot to look at. I don't know how many times I passed this place when I lived there and didn't think twice. Finally popped in when I was visiting with my husband, and it had some pretty awesome stuff. Very southwestern and Mexico decor. Loved it! read more

We enjoyed our time perusing Jackalope's seemingly never-ending wares, though at the end of the day we didn't find anything we just HAD to have. After a while, a lot of the stuff starts to look the same. Still, I'd say it's definitely worth popping in! read more

Good way to waste some time. Lots of different shops of local artists. Not a lot of items I'd actually buy, partly that it's not my style, not to mention some of the items are incredibly pricey. Still, I like to hit this place every time I'm in town. read more

This shop is the Wal-Mart of crafts. It has stuff from India to Mexico and local crafts. price is cheap. It's just fun to look around.

Jackalope is just FUN!!! I've gotten some lovely, colorful round 100% cotton tablecloths there as well as wonderful 100% cotton shorts with tops from Mexico, long 100% cotton yoga pants from Guatemala, and, for my husband, truly beautiful 100% cotton Guatemalan wedding shirts. Great place to get beautiful 100% cotton voile dresses & pants from India. read more

Jackalopes is as good as it gets in Santa Fe. They have unique items from literally every corner of the world. My husband and I travel full time for his job, and each and everytime we are in the area i go to Jackalopes. Some of the vendors outside(my favorites) have beeads and tourqouise that you can make into jewelry and it is so affordable! I bought lots of tourquouise and had it made into necklaces and a bracelet or two that I designed myself. I have had SO MANY compliments on my jewelry and I am proud to tell people i bought it in Santa Fe........I just don't tell them that i spent THOUSANDS less than if I had bought the jewelry in a downtown store or boutique or gallery. Thats just my little secret. If you are visiting Santa Fe, Albuquerque or Bernalillo you HAVE to visit Jackalopes. Its New Mexico's best kept secret!!!!! read more

These guys are great!. I had been wanting some large plants for my home. I decided to check out Jackalope. While I was there, I found three rather large plants. They were in desperate need of some TLC, but I thought I could get them healthy again. I had asked how much these 3 plants were. The manager gave me all three plants for free. They even carried them out for me and put them in my car. Jackalope guys are the best. They're very friendly and generous! I now have 3 large and beautiful houseplants thanks to them! read more

I went to Jackalope to get presents to take back home for friends and family just as I always do when I come to Santa Fe. I found a small purple quartz rock that I wanted for my granddaughter. It's cost was $4.00. I walked away to gather the rest of the gifts. After I'm about twenty-five feet away, the man at the cash register calls to me and says, "Are you going to pay for that?" I said, "Yes, after I've gathered the rest of my gifts." I picked up a scarf I wanted for one of my friends and noticed that he was following me. I thought that was just idiotic. Why would anyone risk going to jail for $4.00? I told him that since he was so concerned, that I would leave the rock at the cash register, and then return with my other items to make my purchase. He sarcastically said, "Good!" I was so annoyed by then, I just said forget it. I left the store without buying anything. I have no intentions of ever walking in to that store again. I'm sure there are plenty of other places which would love for me to spend my money in their establishments. read more

This ethnic arts and crafts emporium was always a favorite of mine when living in Santa Fe. Rather than one retail facility, Jackalope is a network of several retail facilities located on a single large plot of land, with several having a specific retail focus. There is one building devoted exclusively to ethnic furniture, including Southwestern and Asian-inspired items. There are also buildings devoted to home decor accents and clothing from a variety of ethnic traditions. They had an excellent collection of world music cds, including cds featuring the music of legendary local nuevo flamenco guitarist, Ruben Romero. Outside on the grounds you can find a large selection of quality garden accents, including large planting pots in a variety of rich colors. Of course, one enjoyable highlight here is their private nest of prairie dogs. These animals are very cute and always fun to watch. Prices here for art items are pretty affordable, and while Jackalope is located well outside the Plaza or Canyon Road, it is definitely worth the drive away from the city's historic center. Ms. Jones had heard good things about this place and brought her non-shopping-liking Rock Star husband with her for a visit here on a chilly Santa Fe morning last week. Ms. Jones LOVES local food, art, music--you get the picture...and that's what she was hoping to find here. Well, that didn't happen. Let's start with the good: If you're looking for a particular shape, size and color of an outdoor ceramic pot--this is your place. Want some relatively funky wall art and decor? You may find a thing or two here. The rest? While it's cute, colorful and semi-artsy, it's NOT local (most of it is brought in from Mexico), it's not all that unique (you can find this stuff where ever they sell Talavera pottery), and it's pricey for what it is. Colorful pots, metal hearts, stars, signs (we don't call 911), glass peppers...but, at least on this day, Ms. Jones didn't find anything created by a local Santa Fe artisan. Yes, you can blow glass and it's something you may want to try if that's your thing, so let's give Jackalope that. Overall, in the opinion of Velvet Jones, Jackalope rates a solid "Meh, I've experienced better." There are a million places that sell similar items in Santa Fe--keep looking for them if you want to pay less. read more

4 stars as this place is fun to bring kids (they have prarie dogs) and out of town guests who are looking to purchase a piece of Santa Fe style. Be warned it's quite over priced in my opinion. Typically you can find similar pieces elsewhere for much less. read more

loved exploring this vast expanse of goodness. different vendors have booths, and some are clearly MUCH better than others and carry more authentic goods while others are obviously selling imported, very fake turquoise that wouldn't fool a 5-year-old. you can find some great items and good deals if you keep looking. reminded me of shopping in Mexican markets, which I loved! great selection of textiles from many vendors, so make sure you look around and compare prices and quality! read more

It's been years since I've visited but this place has really changed - for the worse. They used to have a huge "outdoor" mercado with all kinds of great stuff much of it inexpensive but always a great selection. All of that is gone, I guess replaced with Jericho nursery which no one seemed to care about when I visited last week (Aug, 2012). I've noticed the prices are much higher. Hasn't Jackalope been around for decades? Do they not own the land/buildings already? Why the sharp increase in prices? What a disappointment. No need to go back now. If the current Jackalope is any indication, the world is going to hell in an overpriced hand basket from Mexico. read more
