Great good, lovely service with no pressure to move on once finished which was appreciated given a long awaited catchup with my friend.

My first visit to Light Years was for breakfast; a delicious and unforgettable meal it was…read more The location was off the beaten path, it took me about 15-20 minutes walk from the nearest metro. I was wondering why such a popular spot would be so isolated? But all is well worth the effort to get here. The venue is brimming with natural lighting, classic charm and warmth. For my breakfast, I ordered the Pixelated avocado (on a sourdough toast) because it just looked so darn intriguing. I didn't expect anything else to be honest, and turned out this was GOOD!! Every single element in this dish has complex flavors that compliments each other. The chili dried air kale, diced pixelated avocado and the soft shell crab was especially stunning. The dish certainly performs to its Instagram ability. For my drink, I ordered their matcha latte; it was strong tasting yet smooth. I could drink this all day! The Light Years is certainly not disappointing in any way, from the beautiful venue to the outstanding food, supported with service and ambiance for days. Easily, my favorite brunch spot in town at the moment and much to recommend you :).

Recently opened at the bottom of a new apartment block just along from the Camberwell tram depot, it should not be confused with Lights in the Attic cafe which is a bit further down Camberwell Road. The fit out is the now common scandi/minimalist affair with a smattering of potted greenery. Coffee is from Dukes, but the star of the show here is the food. All the dishes I saw coming out looked great and were good sized portions. I had the bircher and it was a generous serve, looked pretty and tasted even better. Overall a good value and tasty option for brunch/lunch in the leafy inner east.

We were invited to visit South Melbourne's The Left Handed Chef - and when you hear good things…read morefrom not only one of the top bloggers on Zomato, but also several other of your good foodie mates you're expecting something pretty special. Which it was, but there's no flash, bang fancy industrial decor or signature Instagrammable dish. The Left Handed Chef took me home. My local brunch scene back home was full of small business owners, cooking the food they'd grown up with - good food and good people. This was a snapshot into their life, and something they had worked incredibly hard to achieve - and the Left Handed Chef was just that. Their warmth just radiated from the moment we arrived, and I left feeling privileged they chose to include me in their experience. I ordered the grand slam - toast loaded with hommus, fried halloumi, bacon, two poached eggs and dusted with dukkah to finish. The bread is made in house, and it was absolutely delicious, the hommus was light, with a lot of flavour, and the halloumi was fried to perfection. The ingredients were top quality, and it's no surprise that I've just read that Ehud personally sources all of the ingredients from local suppliers, as well as personally cooking every meal. The Farmer's Breakfast could have been made for my other half: Scrambled Eggs, Bacon and a Hash Brown with toast - this is literally his go-to meal when we go anyway for brunch - but he usually has to create it through various substitutions or adding extra sides. The eggs were exactly how he liked them, smooth with a lot of flavour, he liked the generous portion of bacon and home-made hash brown looked so perfect it made me want to hang my head in shame at my own attempts to make them. We also got the try the waffle doughnut, and red velvet Lamington two of their signature items. I loved the simplicity of the waffle doughnut, with its light cinnamon dusting - it's one of those things that makes you ask "Why don't they have these everywhere?". The smell of the lamington alone is enough to make you walk away from your diet and never go back; it's soft sponge and rich flavour were so enjoyable. I actually want to go and sit in the Left-handed Chef every day, for their creative, delicious brunch, their picture perfect coffee and their delicious cakes. But even more so for the warm welcome and friendliness that I'd receive. While you can build good service, you can't manufacture such genuineness. You hear this phrase banded around so often, but if you want food that really is cooked with love, this is the place to go.

Small, cosy and quaint. The Left-Handed Chef reminded me of one of those tucked away NYC cafes…read more Overall, I liked it. The food was diverse and delicious, everything looked so good to try. The one portion of the Sista was so filling, that we had to get a takeaway box for the Vegie Stack. I ate it later on and the spice in this dish knocked me off my feet. I admit, the chia latte wasn't the best, but it was okay. Again, I was happy with this. And the price point, talk about getting bang for your buck. I wish more cafes were like this, they can even split bills here! It's very cosy inside- and can in some ways feel like a tight space. We got there about 9:30am, and it was perfectly quiet. But it picked up as we were finishing up and then we felt a pang of guilt from taking up a table and decided to leave.

In fact, this place was nothing short of awesome, even though they were only doing takeaway at the time. Mind you, the crowds out the front sort of gave me the impression that this place is pretty popular. You can probably tell that the coffee here is awesome, a true Melbourne icon. I've really got to come back here again, especially since the service was top notch as well.Y

Hot honey did not disappoint! Firstly we were greeted by surely the nicest waiter I have ever met, she asked us how I morning was then went on to tell us the specialties and all the while being bubbly and smiling. So refreshing. Firstly I got the iced coffee, and just as expected it was a delicious espresso with not too much milk all icy and delicious. Plus a little scoop of icecream on the top made it sweet and tasty! We were told the avocado smash and the corn bread were the best sellers. So we ordered them. They quickly arrived. The cornbread was thick and moist with a beautiful avocado and tomato salsa with a little coriander (YUM!) the bacon was generous and well cooked. The smashed avocado was served on crusty bread with just enough mint to make it tangy not too tart. We added bacon and again it was a generous portion and well cooked. There is seriously no feedback I could give Hot Honey, other than to keep doing exactly what they are doing. Lovely staff, great organic food, good value and great location! I will certainly be a returning customer and if you're looking for a yummy breakfast then you better get down to Hot Honey :)
