Made our way over to good old Jack Rabbits Thursday night to watch a cover band. I always like Jack Rabbits . If you want an up close experience with live bands come here. Small bar area, but great service. Bartenders always busy and doing a great job. If you're looking for a sterile setting don't come to Jack Rabbits. This is dive bar with really good live music. Live music is hard to find in Jax - so glad Jack Rabbits is still around! It's a small intimate music venue for true music lovers. It's basically standing room only, but if you get there early you may score one of the bar top tables. Was a little bummed they dont serve liquor, but it does make the line at the bar go quickly. For what it is, a hot and sweaty dive of a music venue, I love it! They regularly host a variety of musicians, many of whom could and maybe should easily play larger venues. The small venue means you will always be close to the action and the crowded space is perfect for the metal or punk rock feeling. Prices are reasonable both for tickets and for drinks. The only drawbacks are the filthy bathrooms (which come with the territory for these types of venues) and the lack of parking. Another tip, when you purchase online there are sizable service fees that are waved if you purchase at the door. Go! Have fun and rock out! read more

I was so excited to learn there was a music venue in our neighborhood upon moving to Jacksonville. We go to a lot of shows, and were especially excited to see Bilmuri was coming to Jack Rabbits in June 2023. Ticket prices are cheap and we got there at 8pm. One listing said the show started at 8, but it turned out doors only opened at 8. We waited in line outside to get in. Security does not check bags/purses at this venue. I tried to order a cocktail, but was informed they only serve beer and seltzers. The bartenders were SO nice. My boyfriend and I both tried a tequila seltzer. This specific day was one of the hottest of the Summer. Easily 100 degrees outside. We got to a spot in the back by the merch and instantly I was so overheated. We thought for sure there would be air conditioning, but it was probably 120 degrees inside with all the people packed in. I felt dizzy and walked up to the bar to get a water and fully passed out from the heat. The bartender got me a chair to sit in front of a fan at the bar. This was honestly the worst experience ever and has never happened to me in my whole life. The show hadn't even started yet, I took about 3 sips of my drink, and then had to sit and drink literally 5 bottled waters in the back. The bathroom situation is also awful. Two single restrooms that were hard to get to through the crowd. The women's restroom was dirty and had a constant line. I am very grateful for the bartender that helped me during a very scary situation. I am not exaggerating when I say that every person at the show was dripping wet as if they just came out of the pool. I am not sure how it's legal to have a small venue without air in this heat. There were other bands that came over the Summer, but we had to pass after we knew how brutally hot it was inside. I went back to Jack Rabbits to see Barns Courtney in the Fall and it was much cooler outside. Thankfully it was not as hot inside. I knew not to use the restroom after my last experience, so I'm not sure if that situation was the same. I am grateful that this venue supports local and national touring musicians in Jacksonville, but some there are some very necessary updates that need to be made. read more

The staff are entitled jerks. Horrible treatment of artists performing. Staff is completely unclear in their expectations of the performers, BF's band was only told that doors open at 8 and they play at 9, they were not told that after 8 they are "not allowed" to sound check, despite the place being empty. They played for 10 seconds to sound check and were yelled at by the sound guy (same who would make negative disapproving faces everytime the band made a lighthearted joke). The guy at the door doesn't tell you that if you're under 21 you cannot reenter which lead to us being kicked out after leaving to get water. Overall lame venue, there are much better places to go. read more

Been coming here for years! Was here for a fundraising event for a former student and saw a bunch of great local bands for an awesome cause. It's gritty. It's dirty. It's small,but I love it. Perfect for a punk rock club. Beers are cold and served quickly. If you are looking for friendly, smiling service, go someplace else. Jack Rabbits is a San Marco phenomenon. It's been one of the top local live music venues for close to 20 years. They feature local, regional and national artists from across a wide range of genres. Now I wouldn't suggest folks expecting a red carpet and a glass of champagne upon arrival. It's a dive bar, clear as day. They boast decent beer and wine options, including a few of my local favorites on tap. Compared to most venues, prices are on point! I've seen many shows here since I moved to Jax. Not once have I left disappointed. The venue is small enough to give the concert goer a close relationship with the band. Sound is good throughout, although it fades a smidge when at the bar. Recently, one of the friends in our group was underage. I was impressed with the way the doorman treated him. Often times, doormen are assholes to young kids, thinking they're all out to cause mayhem. Props to you, sir! Long live Jack Rabbits, the Hendricks Ave. classic bar venue. read more

Came to this venue for the first time last Friday to see Combichrist perform. Check in was easy. They had a bar but don't serve liquor, just beer. So I got water and my partner got a. The restroom was a single person restroom. There were merch booths set up for all the different bands performing. I believe it was five different bands total. Most people were okay. We watched the first band then sat down on a couch by the restrooms until Combichrist came on at around 11. There was a mosh pit most of the show, which for a small venue was rough. Hadn't seen a pit since 2010 at Mayhem Fest. We got pushed around a bit. Then a fight broke out. Apparently some guy elbowed a woman in the head and the boyfriend flipped. Andy had to stop in the middle of the second song and tell them to stay away from each other. It caused me to have a panic attack so I was trying to breathe and drink water because I was getting light headed. The woman in front of me was kind enough to offer to let me be in front of her. My partner was behind me and her husband was behind him. It was amazing being right up front. This was my first Combichrist show. I hope to go again in the future once more concerts start up again. I was definitely deaf for the day after the show. We thanked the couple after the show who was nice enough to help us out too. read more

While the musical talents they bring in are great, I absolutely cannot stand the venue itself. The shape of it, the fact that they've added all those tables to the only space in front of the stage. It's just so anti-rock show to me. If you aren't in front of the stage, but to the right of it, your view will be obstructed. The place is so dirty and old as well. I wish they would give it a nice bleach pressure wash and paint job. This is the Roadhouse hole in the wall metal equivalent. read more

Love it! My friends and I were in town for the Raiders/Jaguars game. When we go hit NFL games, we try to find some music on Sat night. One of the friends mentioned Jack Rabbits, so I pulled it up on my phone and saw it the band was Mac Sabbath. Black Sabbath meets McDonalds. No, I am not kidding... We had to go. The Uber dropped us off and the adventure was on! Place is small and the AC was working overtime to keep the place merely hot. I can't imagine what would happen in the summer. However, the staff were all great, the beer was cold, Mac Sabbath had an endless supply of fast food related puns (Chik-Fil-AC/DC was my favorite) and we had a blast! You have to be brave to use the bathroom there, especially if you're female, so be warned. read more

Good venue lots of parking to be found but the only thing I didn't care for was the show started 1hr and half late and there was a 45 minute wait between the opening act and the main act that did not set well with me. But I've learned that it's like that all the time so that will have to play into if I go again but if I had known upfront that was the norm I would've stayed home and extra hour. read more

This place is a quaint music venue that is well known to local musicians and music enthusiasts. The spot is ironically known for the hand-painted "JackRabbits" name on a white door amidst a block of shopping stores. The sounds system is awesome but dont expect mixed drinks because its only beer and wine. But the selection is pretty decent from Bud to crafts on tap as well as ciders and wine coolers. The bathrooms could be better. It's a bar/music venue that only accommodates one person at a time. Not very practical for the beer drinkers lol, gets busy on a crowded show. I appreciate that this venue plays all music genres although rock and metal is its forte. You can follow them on social media to find out who's playing. read more

Jack Rabbits charges a $10 admission which does not go to paying out the bands! Unless a patron says,"I'm here to see XYZ band" at the door, then they will pay the band $2, thus keeping 80% for themselves. The location was hard to find and from the outside it doesn't look like a music venue. Inside had a nice bar area with a decent beer selection. The music sounded great but the stage is small so speakers and poles would block the view of the band's performance. Their is no smoking inside so patrons stand out front (no outdoor seating) and throw their cig butts or trash on the ground because there is no ash tray or garbage can. The men's restroom was positively disgusting. Two urinals and a toilet, no doors and no dividers. The urinals did not flush and the smell was pungent. They fill it with ice to mask the scent and to keep the fruit flies away. There is one sink, for aesthetic purposes as there is no soap and no way to dry your hands. read more

First time here, staff are nice and efficient. I like the fact it is a non-smoking venue. We went for a concert + I was disappointed with the sound. The instrumental music was louder than the singer. And when she talked, her voice was muffled. I'm not sure if it was the fault of the sound engineer or the audio equipment. With such a small venue, I was hoping for better. Other reviews wrote that the bands appear late and they do. 8 pm show started at 10 pm. Dress for the heat; the ac appears to be nonexistent or blowing hot air. It was actually cooler outside. We parked behind the library by the park. There was plenty of spaces and it was fairly lit. I gave it 3 stars bc of the cozy feel, relatively cleanliness (Caveat, I did not use the restroom. The line was long.), and nice staff. I'd go back but I'd dress for the hot beach...no jeans, shorts instead and a tank top. read more

Jack Rabbits is a dive bar/music venue that hosts local bands and national acts. I have no idea what the other reviewers are talking about attitude from the bouncers and bartenders. I've never had a problem, ever. If you are nice, they are nice. When it's packed, it's packed. Be prepared for a lack of personal space, which depending on the band, can be a lot of fun. Tickets prices are pricey? WTH? $10 for usually 2 bands or more. Seriously, what do people want? Free? The beer prices are very fair and the selection is pretty nice. I don't care what anyone says, Jack Rabbit's is an institution! Located right off of historic San Marco on Herricks, it has been an almost hard to find, hole in the wal, dive for as long as anyone can remeber. The words "hole in the wall" and "almost hard to find " might sound like a negative to some, but really it isn't . That's part of the charm, and epicness of this place. Also , I'd like to point out, considering how small of a venue this is, the PA is great. The sound is amazing. They have great mixing and engineers working. If you can find it, if you can find parking, it is worth it. They have had ever band you can think of on their stage throughout the yesrs. Historic!!! It is also one of the few venues in Jacksonville that is 100% accessible to local, and unknown acts. Cover charges are always low, and the beer is always cold. Seating is fairly plentiful, considering how small of a venue it is. Bathrooms are fairly clean, considering (CONSIDERING!) it is a dive, music bar. I think this place great..perfect, even. It's got an attitude and feel all its own. It's a living venue! read more

It is true, Jack Rabbits is tiny, dark and a dive. But what they do offer is great live bands, mostly local but with some national coverage. They do have pool tables and old school games (Pack Man, baby!) with couches and of course the standard bar you can belly up to!! They provide access to the local music scene for our teenagers (which is great) and the X that marks the under aged hand is a system that works for them. They keep an eye on them and won't let them randomly go outside unless supervised by a security member. Now this doesn't mean the security is standing next to them, but no drinks allowed outside or smoking for those innocent ones. Yeah, innocent my ass!!! But Jack Rabbits does their best and it is a place we let them go and enjoy! read more

Been a bit since I've been to Jack Rabbit's, and I gotta say... wow. I'd have called it a dive bar, but it's moved up the ladder a rung or two. Probably unfair to call it a hole-in-the-wall. There is apparently an all-the-time no smoking policy now, which I can certainly appreciate, not because I'm an anti-smoking thug, but because the poor ventilation couldn't handle the smoke. They've also spruced up a bit, though the rest rooms (at least the men's) is still an exercise in exhibitionism. If you have needs other than paying the rent on your beer, you're, um, SOL, as there is NO door, curtain, or other privacy mechanism protecting the toilet. No matter, there doesn't ever appeear to be any toilet paper in there, anyway. Depending on the size of the crowd, and the ambient outside temperature, the a/c may have some trouble keeping up. Beer and wine available at the redecorated bar for reasonable prices, as are canned soft drinks, water, and energy drinks. Jack Rabbit's attracts crowds of all ages (including geezer [at least at the shows I've attended]), arrive early if you want seating, and be prepared for people to move in and stand in front of you. I've found a polite "excuse me, but..." to be very effective. read more

Was at a show last night w my bf- super excited to see Colony House and Tall Heights in an intimate venue. We had seen TH at Florida Theatre and they knocked our socks off. This time at Jack Rabbits, honestly we had to leave four songs into the Headline act because it was too hot to think about anything else!! No a/c!!! That's why I'm giving 1 star- the venue, not the bands. It's very unfair to these bands, who are GREAT. Next time they should play at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall or something else! If Jack Rabbits gets their A/C working (in Florida!!) I would feel very differently about this venue! read more

Jack Rabbits is your classic dive bar/music venue and one of the best places in Jacksonville to see live music. They have shows almost every night of the week, and actually get some great national acts as well as the locals. Of course, its dark and dirty and the bartenders and door guys have a ton of attitude, but that's what you'd expect at any venue like this, as it can be a little scenester. The sound tends to be pretty good though, and they must have fixed the AC because the last show I went to was actually bearable temp wise. The only downside [and its probably due to the small size of the venue] is that tickets tend to be a little on the pricey side. Even shows with only local bands [and not the, um, most developed of them] will run at least $10, maybe $12. This is offset by the reasonable beer prices though. As a mainstay of the Jacksonville music scene, Jack Rabbits is a must visit for music fans. Just check the website, pick a show, and go enjoy! read more

What can I say about Jacksonville's most famous venue that hasn't been said about any "premier music venue"? A.) The sound techs on staff there are at the top of their game. Seriously, I can't say enough how professional, skilled, and knowledgeable they are. And the sound equipment is adequate. Seriously, this place is great if you want to sound good or hear nuance in a band. B.) The rest of the staff sometimes have attitude problems. C.) A few years ago they went non-smoking, I assume to cater to....themselves? It's a rock venue. Your main demo is people in their late teens, twenties, and early thirties. People are going to want to smoke. The sound staff earned you that third star, Jackrabbits. Pay them more. read more
