I came here for a metal concert. They did not offer food or mixed drinks during the event, only beer, so I can't speak to those products. They had three draft offerings--PBR, an IPA and Michelob I think. I opted for the IPA ($6), and it was good. This is very hole-in-the-wall, so I won't harp on anything, just know that coming in. The concert was great. The place was packed front to back, standing room only. The crowd was pretty rowdy and there were a few fights. I only saw two bouncers, and they stayed by the door, so the crowd had to police itself. Anyway I had a good time and would come for another event. There are other bars and restaurants on the same block, so you have options before and after the event you came here for. read more

Bathrooms diffently could use a update but otherwise I enjoyed the people I met, and the servers were great. The food..those turkey sliders and pork ribs were amazing. Everyone wanted to buy the BBQ and take it home. My event was a BBQ and Bourbon tasting, and it was great time. They provided us Buffalo Traces best line up. I was alone downtown when the event I was attending was a bust. Food was a necessity before driving as I had been drinking. Oddly enough, it was harder the. One could imagine trying to find some snacks-snacks in my current state. The Underbelly was a place with a limited menu and was empty as they were preparing for a concert shortly. The bartender (nice, black gentleman) was awesome and understood my situation. He allowed me to order and did his best to prep my food and drink for me to continue my walking journey. The food was really good also! I can't remember what it was called but basically a Philly cheesesteak but with chicken. Delicious! Maybe 45 minutes later I walked by and the place was hopping! It's rare that I can't find some positive in BBQ, but this lunchtime meal was nothing to write home about. I ordered 1/2 chicken with garlic toast and side salad. The chicken was smoked and the skin was charred beyond flavor. The side salad was just iceberg lettuce with chunks of tomato too large to fit in my mouth. The garlic toast was thick white bread with no taste, although it was toasted properly. I was very curious about Underbelly after learning about it being a bbq place with a great bourbon selection and night time entertainment. So I stopped by for a late lunch. It a cool old building in downtown Jacksonville with a huge bar. It's very open with a long bar with a massive selection of spirits. The bartender was friendly and quick to please. I had the pulled chicken nachos. They were excellent. I've placed the description in a pic. Very tasty and a large portion. Had a great draft from Lemonstreet Brewery. It appears they offer four local drafts each day. Looks like it could be a great spot for entertainment at night. It's on a corner with plenty of Plato hop on a night out. Im a huge fan of underbelly because of the music component but because of the amazing BBQ. My office had a buffet lunch here and I lost my mind. What a great venue for a concert! Things to note though if you're over 40...standing room only! If things start to hurt after standing a while, you may want to reconsider standing at the front near the stage and maybe hang out closer to the bar where you can try to snag a stool. Underbelly is the spot! After a pretty terrible experience at another small local venue, I was so impressed with Underbelly. I moved here from Pittsburgh, where i went to shows weekly. Jax doesn't get as many rock bands, but I was excited to see Death from Above 1979 was coming to Underbelly. Tickets were $35. First impression was that they didn't check my bag at all which made me a little concerned. Good to know I don't need to bring a clear purse or worry about purse restrictions here in the future though. The venue was clean and you can see the stage from anywhere. The sound was good too. We got two cocktails that were only $9 each! They also have a full bar and full food menu which is surprising to see at this type of venue. The biggest thing was the fact that the bathrooms were clean. I am always scared to use a bathroom at small venues and this one was literally so clean and had multiple stalls. The best part of all was the blasting air conditioning. I can't believe I was actually cold at a rock show. Usually everyone is soaked in sweat. This was such a great experience and I can't wait to go back. read more

Despite having a very comprehensive selection of whiskey and bourbon, there is no cocktail menu of which to choose which makes the establishment hard for folks to enjoy if they aren't big whiskey or bourbon people. Let me start this by saying I've been in food and bev 27 years from back of the house to front so I understand people bein in the weeds to just Havin a bad day, with that being said we are service workers to the public we provide a service to the public, if you're having a bad day that is not the customers problem! So here's my problem /complaint to this establishment. Last night me and several friends went to the underbelly to see Runaway Gin there were probably max of 40 people there ( not busy at all) . Around 11 my friend went to the bar to close out her tab and the bartender( brogan) tells my friend they don't have her card, she opened a tab and never got it back so ultimately they misplaced her card this is when the unfortunate series of event starts, needless to say my friend was not real happy about the situation but being the Lady she is just chalked it up to the day and left the bar with another friend. The rest of our party was bummed that the crew would be split up but we stayed because we payed our hard earned money to see this band. So about 45 minutes later my friend goes to close her tab and the bartender (brogan) ignores her (mind you no more than 5 people at the bar at this point) after being ignored for at least 10 minutes she comes to me and asks me to close her tab for her. I go to the bar and wait patiently for 10 minutes while she deals with the customers next to me explaining to them that her credit card chip/swipe is working on her pos machine so they must use bar atm pay a $4.00 fee to pull out money to pay tab.( insanity to me when cards can be manually run by typing in 16 numbers a expiration date and cv 3 digit number on back) But since Brogan was so out of her mind she wouldn't do that and just FORCE people to use the atm machine located in the bar( who owns this machine the bar?) After dealing with the customers to my right she looks at me skips right over me and helps 2 other patrons at the bar, then goes back to the kitchen. After a couple minutes in the kitchen she returns to the bar and I gesture I'm ready to tab out, she then continues to scream at me from the other end of the bar so I walk closer to hear what she's yelling( band is loud and I couldn't hear) at this point the "bouncers" surround me and tell me to go outside! I get escorted out with my friend.. where the bouncers are extremely rude to me and my friend,one of these boys actually told me to stfu after I was outside speaking with another friend about the situation. Let me just say I don't go to establishments like this for the customer service but I know I don't go to places like this to get talked down upon and will not tolerate it, so after the boy realized I was not the one to billy he went back inside. A couple minutes later they allow my friend to re-enter to pay her tab. This is where it gets real fishy,Brogan Tyne bartender tells my friend her tab is 87.00( for 1 double Tito's and a single Tito's) mind you there is NOTHING upscale about this establishment at ALL! My friend asks for a receipt and brogan says"my machines outta paper no receipt" then attempts to run her card with no luck she throws her card back at her and tells her "use the atm" where she got charged 4.00 to withdraw money. My friend actually gave her the hundred, so she (brogan)actually received a 13.00 tip for being completely out of hand. With this review I'm questioning several things. 1 How much money does this atm make by forcing customers to use it by simply saying our card swiper isn't working? (SCAM) 2 How is this behavior tolerated in this day and time? 3 Does the management know this kinda behavior is taking place in their establishment? ( brogan claims to be bar manager) 4 Can I speak to a owner? I've been to several shows here and at this moment the way I feel I will NEVER return. I would like answers about this ATM situation and want to know if the owner is even aware of brogans behavior? Also the sound was TERRIBLE last night. read more

I went to see a band and was having a good time until the brown bearded bartender became a dick. I got a draft beer that tasted like hair; when I asked for a different draft, he became an ass. Hey sport, it's not about the money, it's about the taste. I just ordered crown and coke the rest of the night because the beer is gross. While out with friends on Saturday night during One Spark, we ended up at Underbelly. This place was packed, so if you become faint of heart due to crowds, I wouldn't enter this bar. In any case, the amount of energy inside was mind blowing. As it was during One Spark, the band on stage was a One Spark creator and they were playing some ethereal, yet jammin, tunes. The bartenders seemed a bit overwhelmed. In part, I can't blame them, as the amount of people in and around The Elbow during One Spark was astronomical. Given that, I was still a bit annoyed at how many times the bartender looked right at me and went to another customer for their drink order. I was about to give up and walk out when he finally asked. This was after taking care of multiple people who had just walked up to the bar, compared to myself, who had been waiting 5-10 min for my simple Angry Orchard cider. I'll probably head back over here on a night when things aren't as hectic, but I'll more than likely steer clear of that bartender. read more

Won't be going back! Started a tab, went to close tab. Bartender looked for 1 second and said my card was not there, I assured her it was. She gets pissed and says it isn't, then throws my bourbon she just poured in the trash and walks off. Get home to see she ran my tab, so CLEARLY my card was there. Had to go the next morning and pick it up. Most unprofessional and unwelcoming bar I have ever been to! I bartended for years. this is more about their venue for concerts more than food/drink: i've been to underbelly for about 6 concerts now and am just so so disgusted every time!! if they're going to continue having such large crowds here then there needs to be changes before i consider returning :/ its disgusting & dirty with NO air flow AT ALL. for multiple shows now i have had to take breaks in the BATHROOM of all places to get some fresh air because i have trouble breathing in the sweaty wet air for so long. makes the whole concert experience really uncomfortable, which is saying a lot as someone who goes to concerts as often as i do! all i know is that there are smaller venues in the area that are doing so much better, sucks that i continue to have a crap time here because they do tend to get a lot of bigger names. hoping they improve the conditions for their future shows!! read more

Underbelly is a hipster Pee-Wee's playhouse crossed with The Country Bear Jamboree. This live music venue and bar is, "The perfect place for a single guy to find a manic pixie girl" according to my husband. And while the PBR might be on sale for $3 and turn-of-the-century mustaches are present on every man, this place does NOT scream, "Hipsters only! Turn back ye non skinny jean wearing folk!" In fact, Underbelly is quite alluring with the doors thrown wide open with music pouring out onto the street as a warm invitation to come inside. Indeed, the seating arrangement is planned to encourage closeness as guests drink beer and bond with others while listening to the live music. We attended during One Spark's "after hours party" and stumbled upon Fjord Explorers music while walking along the sidewalk. I am a sucker for anything Cello so we stuck around and I soaked up the personality of the bar. Underbelly is a feast for the eyes! The juxtaposition of the candelabra hanging next to the silhouetted human target practice sheets makes an interesting combination as you head towards the bathroom. I also love the giant patina butterflies lightly kissing the wooden shingled columns by the bar. The price of the beer range from $4-6 and they have Angry Orchard on tap as well as some local breweries. I was happy to see the delicious "summer beer" Oberon also available! Underbelly is my favorite music hall in Jacksonville and I highly recommend spending some time getting your senses stimulated with or without skinny jeans. read more

Nice little dive bar with live music. Decent beer selection as well. A lot bigger on the inside than I thought it was. Nice decor and clean all around. This place is awesome. I've never been anywhere in downtown Jacksonville with a better vibe as far as my tastes are concerned; a very chill place. I am a live music lover and the city really needed a place like this. The sound system and lights are epic. They have a state of the art light rig as well as a BUMPING system. I was really impressed with what they've done here. There is a long bar on the right side when you walk in, some tables on the left, a few couches, and a decent sized dance floor to get down on in front of the stage. Speaking of the bar...they have an amazing beer selection. I didn't count how many taps there were, but it had to be at least 16-20 different ones. I had a few Bell's Two Hearted, and a few Magic Hat fall seasonal. They had a bunch of others, but that Magic Hat was great and I got kind of stuck on it after I ordered it! Downtown Jax is starting to develop a nice little live music/entertainment scene and Underbelly is leading the pack. read more

My friends and I were driving to find some food and drove past Underbelly. We stopped and went inside for a beer. It was a great vibe. Not really crowded at all. Since I have been back 3 times. Each night I have gone, there has been live music. First night was a bunch of Fiddlers in the middle of the room. It was a cool sight, they have living style benches to sit on. The beer was cheap, but they ran out of the beer I drank pretty quick. But all in all it was not a bad spot. As far as food, my buddy got the sliders and said they were they best sliders ever. It may have been a coincidence that we were drinking. I on the other hand got a flat bread pizza, and it seemed like a little tostinos pizza that you buy at the supermarket. So it was not good. I visited Underbelly recently for the first time and was pretty impressed. I was there to see a comedian from a radio show I listen to on Sirius XM and dragged a couple friends along. When we first walked up (just after a quick dinner at Chomp Chomp), my first thought was that the outside area was set up in a cute way (nothing crazy, a few tables and chairs with some stringed lights around). Once we got inside, we found a seat near the front (I found out later that there was so little seating that someone went home and brought chairs. A lot of people still had to stand so keep that in mind if you're coming for a show) and got ourselves some drinks. The drink prices were pretty good (around $4 a piece if I remember correctly) but they only had one bartender working (it wasn't insanely busy but there was more than enough people to warrant another bartender). The guy who was working was very friendly and indulged my friend when she tried to describe some beer she had tried previously. The comedy show was great but that is another review, I suppose. Underbelly is a cute little venue in a nice location. I'm looking forward to visiting again on a "regular" night. read more

Awesome laid back place to grab a beer on a Friday night. They usually have live bands, check out their website for more details. The food menu is super small and they don't really have "servers" so I would not recommend coming here for food and drinks. There isn't a full bar either, only beer and wine. Great place for a beer and some live entertainment! We visited on a Saturday night around 8pm. Large open lift style bar with interesting artwork. Great crowd average age 25-32. The beers were super cheep! Comedy night went from 8-10 and then a darling little blue grass band from Tennessee played for about 45min. Several bands went on after but, we left around 11pm. I do believe they have bar food however, I would suggest eating dinner somewhere else first. read more
