They had a few portable AC units around the dining room keeping it relatively cool, which was a great reprieve from the heat outside. Service was quick and friendly. The restaurant was empty when we showed up, so I can't say how service might be during a dinner rush but still- we had a good experience. The food was great, I got the Burrito da comal with carne asada- It was crispy on the outside and stuffed with flavor on the inside. The rice and beans did not disappoint, I wouldn't say they are as good as my Nana's but they held their own. I only knock one star because they were out of a few beers, including all draft.

Corn is always a good idea and the queso is a must !! I think shredded chicken and shredded beef is what they specialize in. Potato and ground beef are ok - wouldn't get those again. The place is clean and there are lots of seating options. I think all sauces that they put on the taquitos need to be on the side so it stays crispy out the fryer. I got half shredded beef and half chicken, and both were crispy, loaded with salsa, crema, and cheese -- I had to use a fork just to get a bite, and it was worth it. The beans were my favorite surprise. They were so good that I found myself dipping the taquitos in them just to get every flavor in one bite. The rice was solid too. The two young ladies working were super nice and helped me out since it was my first time there. It's next to some bigger, well-known spots, but I'd say it's definitely worth checking out. Most of the customers are male construction workers, and as women, we have sometimes hesitated to come because it often feels as though the staff prioritizes the men while other customers are left waiting. Today, I came with my husband because he also enjoys the food. We were impressed by the beautiful remodel and expansion--the map of Mexico used in the décor is especially lovely. A young woman told us we could sit wherever we wanted, so we chose a table. We waited for more than 15 minutes, but no one came over to greet us, offer menus, or take our order. Meanwhile, the employees continued attending to several men nearby without acknowledging us. This was not the first time we experienced a long wait here. The food may be good, but customer service should be welcoming and attentive to everyone, including women, couples, and families--not only the regular male clientele. We did not have an hour to spend waiting just to be acknowledged, so we decided to leave and go somewhere else where the service was prompt and the food was equally delicious. I sincerely hope management sees this as an opportunity to improve because the newly remodeled restaurant is beautiful and the food has great potential, but the quality of the service needs to match it.

Cheap eats in a "deserted" desert (2 of 2)…read more I happened to be in this neighborhood right at around lunchtime. I had just gotten one of those nicely priced haircuts at the student salon of the nearby beauty school. I had to drive past this In-N-Out, being on 111 and roughly at the border of Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert. Unlike many others, I don't fawn over In-N-Out out. I will periodically go into one and eat if I don't have a more specific idea of where I want to eat, so I turned the car into their driveway and looked for a parking spot in their shopping center lot. You have to give them credit for always knowing how to incorporate a drive-through and make the overall scheme work fairly well. I was planning to eat inside and enjoy their air conditioning! I stuck to their easy to order combinations and got a cheeseburger, fries, and a drink. The cheeseburger and fries were fairly good, but not stellar. They feature Coca-Cola products, but also offer a pink lemonade in both regular and lite form. I've had it before and it's very tasty, so that's what I helped myself to. All of the employees I interacted with were very helpful. I was surprised to find the store that busy in the off-season such that it took a little bit of time to receive one's order, but it was not excessive. Given its being in this nicer area, I found the clientele to be fairly diverse yet well-mannered. The interior of the store is definitely clean, and there's always an employee nearby who is cleaning tables as well as stocking condiments and other dining room items. I was sort of clueless about In-N-Out growing up in SoCal, even though I did know it was there. I just stuck to Bob's Big Boy, Norm's, and the fast food majors for eating on the go. Of all places, the first In-N-Out at which I ate was at the Gold Country's Auburn, California location. I was dealing a client situation in that area right off I-80 along with a coworker who came from Vietnam and took some good-natured razzing from us for being a Berkeley grad ... actually the only one in the office. She suggested it, so I steered the car in the direction of that Auburn In-N-Out and, lo and behold, I finally became acquainted with this outfit. As such, I will now periodically eat at In-N-Out and this Rancho Mirage location is definitely recommended.
