Love this place. Food is always good and delivery is always fast. Their soups are really good too

In the mood for some Chinese food I decided to take my son to Jac Mao. Although pricey my past experiences were always great. However, as I'm eating this food and experiencing this condescendíng treatment. I have to ask, are these the same managers running this place? The menu is different from when I used to eat here. Years ago it used to be one of the best Chinese restaurants in Staten Island. Sorry to say this is no longer true. At this point it's over rated. The shrimp with lobster sauce was watery and no taste. The chicken teriyaki was more like plain chicken and broccoli. The young chow fried rice was "okay". I was not impressed at all. I actually regret coming. Oriental plaza on Richmond avenue is a farrr better choice. And they are much much nicer. I won't be back sadly. Jac Mao will be laid to rest. read more

Lately each time I order from Jac Mao something is wrong with the order last time I ordered Spare ribs. I got pork grinds that time. I ordered a combo dinner now and I'm suppose to get an egg roll and that was missing as well. I'm not sure what's going on over there. read more

Have been ordering from them for years. Stopped because when I say add extra meat, it seems like im getting less and less each time. Tonights delivery order, more than 45 minutes,(mon is a slow night) egg drop soup had globs of starch and cold. Wontons hard like undercooked. Dry noodles stale. Bye bye jac! read more

Excellent quality food I was hooked when a friend brought me there and was so impressed with the menu. Everything I tried was delicious. Something as simple as won ton soups was full of large pieces of pork which I haven't seen since the 1980's. I've been having it delivered since. Yes it's pricey but you get what you pay for!! He only calls on the phone . There was a mix up with my phone number so unless I had called myself to check . The food never would have been delivered. read more

I was in the neighborhood and passing by saw that they have a lunch special. I went for the 2 rolls lunch special which included soup or salad. I was not disappointed. Came with my family on a Thursday evening. The parking lot was filled. My sister recommended the sushi. She normally does take out. Inside the ambiance was nice. We ordered Kani salad, sushi regular, chicken and mixed veggies, lo mein, fried rice and cali roll and spicy tuna roll. I was told their lo mein was the best tasting lo mein on the island which was a reach. The food was mediocre. Nothing special. It was good but lacked flavor in some areas. I came here a few weeks ago with some friends and the place was really busy but we were able to get seating fairly quickly. The staff was very welcoming as we walked in. Despite it being very busy, the service was great. Everything we asked for we got without having to ask twice. I'm a pretty picky sushi eater but I have to say that their sushi was so fresh and top notch. You can definitely tell they source great fish. For the amount of food we ordered, I thought it was a great value for premium sushi. Even though we didn't sit at the bar, the bartender seemed very nice and engaging to all the guests. We came here for lunch while waiting for Walgreens pharmacy to get back from break. We started with a Kani salad was really fresh. A sashimi appetizer called the Money Shot was delicious! I had the sushi and sashimi combo for one and was a nice assortment of seafood. Finished with a couple of teas and we were both good. There was a nice crowd and had a choice where to sit. One of the BEST general Tso chicken I've ever had. The shredded meat and lightly coated then fried is a great twist on a Chinese American classic. Coates just right, not overly sweet with a nice spicy kick while still maintaining a crispy crunch. read more

I ordered a whole lot of food today but I was especially impressed by the jumbo shrimp egg roll. When I first saw it, it looked like any egg roll but at $6 a bit pricy. But when you cut it open, surprise: Imagine an egg roll but with jumbo shrimp! Never seen before! The noodle soup was delicious. As was the ma po tofu and sesame chicken. I spent over 90$ in two Lobster meals that we have frequently purchased and loved. This week they sent it with the wrong sauce and it was tasteless, I didn't even touch mine. When I called the restaurant the woman I spoke with severely insulted my intelligence and just flat out lied, telling me that when I ask for the lobster out of the shell it tastes different. I told her that was nonsense, this came in a white lobster sauce and the dish is made with a black bean sauce. She was insistent that I keep and pay for it and she would send me black bean sauce. HOW WIOULD THAT WORK? Pour the black bean sauce over the lobster sauce? YUK! I insisted on speaking with the owner who agreed to give me a credit but said he was upset because he is losing $30 on each lobster ( not very smart of him to say to his customer of over 30 years!) THEN when I offered to give the food back, they sent the delivery man who proceeded to GRILL me about what was wrong and he even went so far as to open the bag, pull out both dishes, to CHECK that the error was not theirs! I was so utterly insulted! He then had the girl call me back to ascertain that I would indeed be paying for the soup and the tip, she proceeded to inform me they would credit our CC but would no longer Service US! read more

Above average, authentic Chinese cuisine on Staten Island, stop here ! Full bar and large dinning room, with separate area for take out. Could not say, No to Jac Mao's for a dinner date suggestion. Traditional Chinese and Japanese cuisine menu. They have a large selection of Chinese dishes and a sushi menu, with many special roll creations. We shared the scallion pancake and two dishes. The scallion pancake was not greasy at all, served warm and with a dipping sauce. MongolianBeef, served with rice and side of vegetables. Flank steak sliced thin sautéed with scallions and delicious sweet sugar, salty soy sauce on top. The crispy cooked beef with the drenched with sauce and fresh garlic make it impossible to stop eating! Using chop sticks let's me slow down and taste the classic Chinese take out dish. The second dish was the highly recommended. Crispy shredded General Tso's chicken 左宗棠雞 served with fresh steamed white rice and drenched in a sweet and spicy sauce. And a side of steamed broccoli. Pistachio ice cream for dessert and some hot jasmine tea. Perfect way to start the week. read more

Tuesday night 8:00 pm dinner. My favorite homemade hard noodles were stale. I'm understanding and won't judge them on that tonight. My wonton egg-drop Soup was hot fresh and delicious. The Chicken lo me was very good and the fried rice was okay. It was a light late decision but steady. I wish they delivered the same quality as the in restaurant food. 3 Fridays ago, I ordered for food delivery. 2nd time ordering food from here, on a Friday again. Delivery is on time, they said 45 minutes. Deliverer called when outside my home. Again, the food is delicious and fresh. My bf still likes Empire East more, but I strongly beg to differ. We ordered sesame chicken with pork fried rice, Kung Pao chicken with fried rice, and 3-roll combo dinner special: ginza roll, shrimp tempura roll and chicken tempura roll with miso soup. Nothing was overly salty in flavor. The chicken chunks are fresh, not dry and coked over and over again. The chicken chunks in the Kung Pao were cooked separately, in like a clay oven or something, and tasted clean and charcoal-ly. Chicken is then tossed in with the Kung Pao sauce and veggies. Even the chicken in the sesame chicken is fresher. The batter is softer thus lighter. The pork fried rice was fresh. Everything in it was delicious. Not too much soy sauce. The miso soup was exceptional. There's fresh silky chunks of tofu and real kombu leaves. Not overly salty. Soup complimented the entire meal. The rolls were of good size and had a good ratio of rice to protein in the center. Seaweed wasn't soggy when I got around to eating the rolls. I should have it's number on speed dial. This place is a hit or miss for me when it comes to authentic Asian food, but the experience is still positive. I first tried Jac Mao a year ago in July 2021 and didn't come back for a year because the fried calamari and wings were so-so (surprising because Chinese takeout fried chicken wings are usually always piping hot and juicy but theirs was dry and stringy). Fast forward to 2022, their chicken with 3 peppers is great (super spicy!) and their stir fried beef ho fun noodles are also delicious. However, their mapo tofu was disappointing. This dish is easily made with a jar of sauce from the Chinese grocery, but Jac Mao's mapo tofu sauce was oddly only sweet with no spice at all (most definitely a whitewashed version of the dish). Sushi here is standard and the dine-in area looks very nice. If you're looking for authentic Chinese food though, be selective with what you order. read more

i ordered food to be delivered, i am only 1.5 miles away. i put it on my debit card including the tip. the person taking the order didn't like the amount of the tip which was $5. 10% of the bill. she asked if i could add more, i said what about $7. she still wasn't satisified and said you are over 3 miles which is completely wrong. i then said now i will go back to my $5. although their food is good i don't think i will be ordering from them again cause of their greediness. there are other chinese restaurants that i can order from. read more

This was the worst chinese food I have had in a long time. I ordered Szechuan beef medium spicy It had no taste, spicy or otherwise. How do you even make chinese food that doesn't taste of soy sauce? The szechuan dumplings had almost no filling. I will not be ordering again. read more

A number of years ago I ordered spare ribs among other items. They were extremely fatty and inedible and I contacted the owner. Not only did he not apologize etc but he tried to go back to look at the receipt. I tried giving them another shot so I came in to sit down with my fiancé for lunch. No lunch specials at all. Hmmm. We ordered eggplant and grand marnier shrimp. There were about 8 shrimp in which they deep fried with a very thick batter. No walnuts, no vegetable with it. My girl peeled off the batter because she will not eat deep fried food. The shrimp looked frozen. I've never seen it cooked that way. The eggplant was tasteless and we threw it out. Finally found another good asian place on Staten Island!! Our favorite one closed after the pandemic and it took us many tries to find a replacement but I feel like we have and we are grateful. The food here is outstanding. Roast Pork is usually excellent. Great Egg rolls and a fantastic large shrimp egg roll. General Taos chicken has large white meat pieces and is excellent. Chow Fun beef or chicken is good. Chicken with peanuts and or cashews is very good. Egg Foo young is decent. Gold Coin Steak is okay. Pork Dumplings are delicious & Juicy. I would say this place is in the top 2-3 Chinese places on the island. They also have good Sushj but it's not as good as their Chinese good. read more

Hoping this will be an above average Chinese restaurant, but got let down. Chicken was tender and fresh. Fried Rice was tasty. Food doesn't taste heavily with MSG. Don't charge customers with higher price, but serving same crap just because the restaurant looks nice. Restaurant should know how to run their business by now after opened up for years. read more
