It has been several years since James Yoder did lots of costly work at our house, but I am writing this now because we are still discovering many of the corners he cut back then and how it compromised the quality of the work (some of which deteriorated not long after). Not only that, but he grossly overcharged us and then failed to pay some of his sub-contractors -- something we learned from speaking to several of them later. Naturally at the time we did not know we were being overcharged, nor did we know that when some of Yoder's subs walked out on him leaving their jobs unfinished for lack of pay, he hired other inept subs to complete the work. Honestly, I think he just picked up some of these people at a local diner, because the crew kept changing and some of them were really questionable! We were being charged way more than the going rate for absolutely sub-par work. Yoder even opened us up to a lawsuit because he failed to pay a supplier for materials he used on our house, even though we had paid him, in full and on time. That was our thanks for being responsible and essentially providing his full income for about a year. Live and learn. We were new to the area and he took full advantage of that fact and especially now in hindsight, it is so easy to see how terribly dishonest he was and how little he really cared about us. It was all about the money. If you are thinking about employing him, buyer beware! This man is not trustworthy. I do believe in karma and I think sites like Yelp (and others) are great for sharing this information and sparing others the misery we dealt with. read more
