This is for the "just passin' through" folks like me. It was August 29 of the year of the pandemic, and we were heading home after a camping trip. My boy was getting hungry, and restaurants with outdoor seating were scarce, so we decided that groceries were the best way to satisfy him. I masked up and went in alone. This was my first real encounter with small town scorn for public health. People in other small town businesses have looked like they resent the mask rules, but comply for the sake of the tourist trade. For example, I saw two mask scofflaws at the supermarket in Forks. (And yes, we even see scofflaws in the city occasionally.) But here, the place was pretty busy, and maybe a quarter of the customers were unmasked. Most of those tempting the virus to hasten their demise looked old, or infirm, or depressed -- but they were also endangering people who still have a reason to live. Although I was trying to shop quickly, I didn't know my way around the store, and I had to search to find a decent, no-preparation snack for my boy. During the search, I found one irresistible impulse purchase: a huge jar of raw honey for a respectable price. The treats at the in-store bakery were pretty picked over by 4:30 pm, so I settled for a red velvet roll cake, for about what I'd expect to pay in the city. I took my purchases to the one open cashier. (They were short-handed; I heard someone apologizing about that.) She was wearing a mask, but it only covered her mouth. I'm glad there was a plastic shield, and room for me to back away from the cashier through most of the transaction. I paid with a card, and the card machine was mercifully quick. Back in the parking lot, I showed my wife and our boy the cake. (The honey will be a surprise for later.) It calmed his hunger, and my wife and I indulged too. But it wasn't something I'd highly recommend. It wasn't until my wife asked that I read the ingredients list, and I think it was mostly sugar, with some cooking oil, some flour, and some dairy ingredients in the frosting (which was delicious). We'll probably finish the leftover cake, mostly because we hate to waste food. My two-star "Meh, I've experienced better" is partly a reaction to the mask scofflaws. And I suppose it's not fair to count inconsiderate customers against them. But a cashier showing her nose? Not good. But it's not just the pandemic. The bakery shelf was short enough of items that I settled for the cake, which was disappointing. I didn't experience the employee friendliness mentioned in other reviews. On the plus side, there was the local raw honey.

I was admittedly a pessimist, because the last handful of places we've visited have been in the 'eh' category. We decided to try it anyway. I ordered a caramel macchiato and loaded avocado toast. Husband got the chipotle chicken panini. They warned us that there was a short wait, which turned out to be so worth it. The avocado toast was the absolute best avocado toast I've ever had. The sweet little red onions tied it all together. As soon as we left I told my husband I was going to dream about it lol. I am a bit of a coffee connoisseur. I've worked at coffee shops and this I'm pretty picky when it comes to my coffee. This was one of the best coffees I've ever had. And I don't take my food ratings lightly. I don't even know what it was about the coffee that was so good. I watched them make it and it was as not much different than I've seen elsewhere - but somehow it was just so good. I doubt I'll happen to be traveling this part of the states again, but if I do, I'd go out of my way to come here again. My husband also loved the panini. 5 stars. Well done!

I especially loved their in-house "Dan's" label products. I brought several items home with me, including their BBQ rub, black peppercorns, and of course, coffee! Their hours are incredibly convenient (5:00 AM - 10:00 PM), which makes it easy to pop in anytime. We even visited during a snowstorm -- and yes, they were open! You can choose from one of their set sandwiches (like the Reuben, Silly Phillies, or Wild Turkey) or build your own from a generous selection of breads, cheeses, condiments, meats, and veggies. And it comes with a complimentary bag of chips! - Reuben - a warm, pressed classic. Generous corned beef, melted Swiss, tangy sauerkraut, and Thousand Island dressing on grilled bread. Super satisfying and perfect trail fuel - Turkey Cranberry - layers of turkey with cranberry spread, cheese slices, and fresh fixings. Sweet, savory, and delicious The deli counter is right inside on your left when you walk in. Everyone behind the counter was incredibly friendly, genuinely chatting with us about our hike plans and offering samples from the bakery. Our sandwiches were made fresh and hot in minutes! The overall vibe is that of a local neighborhood grocery with staff who truly care. We loved it so much, we came back for round two. Don't miss this spot if you're prepping for a hike -- Dan's does a trail lunch done right!
