Jerome is a phenomenal hairstylist who is personable, professional, and dedicated to his craft. One of the few stylists in the area that have both high accessibility and talent to match. He makes the time because he owns his time and values his customers first and foremost - another rarity. Phenomenal short cuts for women - speaking as a woman with a phenomenal short cut. This place lost a customer before I even booked. I just moved to the area and called to find out prices for a wash, condition, trim, and two-strand twist on natural hair. The woman on the phone asked me if my hair was longer or shorter than my shoulders (always a red flag when someone wants to charge you more for having long healthy hair). When I asked if she meant when it's dry or wet (because of shrinkage and I'm looking for a trim) she said, "I just wanna know how long your hair is." Okay, rude. All I did was ask a clarifying question. She then quoted me $165 (wow) for the services while crunching food in my ear and talking with a mouth full. I can handle pricy, but rude too? This is the worst salon experience I've ever had! I went into this place with soft healthy natural hair and left with heat damage & a damaged scab scalp!!! Going to this salon was definitely an unforgettable experience. I decided to go to this salon because since covid began my preferred hair care provider has been closed for their own personal health reasons, I had been long overdue for a trim and figured it would be nice to stop in for a normal wash, blow dry, flat iron and trim. The people at this salon are relatively kind which is why i'm at least giving one star but, unfortunately the service was just not up to par. I arrived to my appointment on time, unfortunately the hair stylist did not. They arrived about 20 minutes after my appointment time. When I got there the salon was visibly in not the most presentable state, there was hair on the floor and utensils left unorganized. There was no consultation concerning the health of my hair at all. I was just instructed to move to a sink, and had my hair washed. The hair washing process was horrible, they used their nails to wash my scalp which can be extremely damaging due to scratching, my scalp still currently hurts from how roughly my hair was washed,. A shampoo that tingles was used on my hair, it smelled like mint or tee tree oil, both can be damaging on hair, the shampoo made my scalp feel even more irritated, almost as if it was burning. My hair was detangled roughly, which I believe led to a lot of breakage. I was left underneath the dryer for about 45 minutes while they forgot about me and skipped onto other clients. When my hair was being blow dried by hand the stylist continued to roughly go through my hair with a brush. After the flat iron period began, I am still unsure as to wether heat protectant was used on my hair. The worst part was when the stylist proceeded to trim my hair, she showed me she was going to take off about 2 inches, my hair was below my armpit in a stretched natural state before attending the salon and after the "trim" my hair does not even touch my shoulders while fully straightened. About 4-6 inches were CUT off of my hair, all unevenly and in layers. She curled my hair I believe as a way to hide the imperfections that she made in my hair. I also have extremely thick hair, and after this entire ordeal my hair is visibly thinner. I just hope that when I go to wash my hair it will revert back into its curly state. Besides my overall treatment it seemed as if the workers did not want to work, it appeared like they were only interested in gossiping. I even heard one of the workers answer the phone and deny a service because they did not feel like doing it... The music choices playing in the background were full of profanity and they had a minor rinsing and blow drying clients hair. I overheard the workers speaking of how the owner will perm short natural hair because he doesn't want to do it, which is obviously complete insanity, and it shows their mindset is style over hair health. Overall, this salon was a nightmare and they do not focus on hair health, I was in there for five hours, having to take turns with other clients who came after me, there is obvious favoritism between new and old clients. I will not be returning to this salon and I only recommend it if you don't care about your hair health or time, its okay if you want to get a cheap style. This is not luxury hairstyling. I will update this after washing my hair to see if it hasn't been heat damaged. read more

I've been going to this salon off and on for almost a year. It's owned by a man, who is also the master stylist. The salon is clean and professionally operated. Prices are average. Each stylist is unique in what they bring to the salon. Jerome, the owner, works miracles on short hair. He's an expert in color. More important, he's very personable. If I didn't need to get my hair done, I'd probably just stop by to talk. The other stylist work mostly with weaves, braids, and natural hair. I love this place because: 1. You can get a variety of services. What CAN'T they do? 2. The salon is opened early (6am) on Saturdays. 3. Friendly and professional staff 4. They are on time. No waiting for an hour when you have an appointment. 5. Coffee available. 6. Debit/Credit accepted with professional checkout. 7. Discounts on certain services on Tuesday and Wednesday. I don't love that: (I don't have anything to put here.) It doesn't bother me, but: 1. If you're more than fifteen minutes late for your appointment, you can get bumped. 2. Arrive early, so you can find "side of the street" parking. 3. Hair school students are allowed to work in the salon part-time. But hey, they need to gain experience too. read more

I had the most memorable experience at this Salon. I called them at the last minute while I was out from work to see if they could fit me in after googling hair salons near me. The website was eye catching so I had to inquire about getting my hair done there. The gentleman that answered the phone was so accommodating I was able to set up an appointment for that day and get my hair done before my kids came home from school. The shop was very clean and modern and everyone in the shop was very friendly, I felt extremely comfortable, and was actually more sociable then usual for a salon atmosphere. I left with bouncy shiny hair that I can't keep looking at. He did an excellent job I will most definitely be stopping by for some more shine and body for my hair when I'm in that part of town. read more

I made an appointment to this salon in April in hopes to get a silk press for my upcoming birthday. I was skeptical because of the reviews, but since the reviews were a mixed bag I decided to try my luck. They were the only black owned salon that had availability for when I needed it. I contacted the salon for the appointment and, spoke to Taryn who informed she was an expert with natural hair and could book me the following week. I was hesitant because of specific reviews i read about her timing. I asked if there would be a timing or tardiness issue, which she assured me "No, because I have to pick my daughter up at 2, and so I will be on time and ready". I went ahead with the appointment still hesitant. I get to the salon for a 10:30 as I come in I'm met by Taryn who tells me, she has overbooked and currently has a 10 am appointment in her chair. I asked how long the wait will be, and she informed not long I'll get you in and out. I waited for and 1 hour and 15 minutes before I was serviced and went back to get my hair washed. Which she used a shampoo that felt like it had relaxer type chemicals in it. She scratched my scalp to the point it was burning. She ended up tangling my hair with the way she was "massaging" my scalp. Then I was sat under the dryer for so long that the dryer ended up turning off. Which was within 20 minutes and I sat for an additional 25 minutes, waiting for her to finish roller setting her 10 am appointment. Once I got in the chair my hair was extremely tangled, which again she informed she was a natural hair expert but used a comb, On my already tangled damp hair. She was combing my hair from the root, to the ends which anyone with natural hair knows that's A HUGE MISTAKE!! She was ripping my hair out to the point that I had to inform her that she was hurting me, and needed to start from the end to the root. Which she then blamed the tangling on my ends, like I couldn't feel her trying to comb my natural hair from the root. Once blow dried i informed her to only cut an inch. Coming into the salon my hair was to the middle of my back once leaving my hair was cut to just an inch past my neck. I asked for a silk press and got a flat iron. She didn't even think to ask how I wanted my hair done she chose to give me the worse spiral curls, that looked bulky and were loose as soon as I left and it wasn't hot outside. Literally THEEE WORST EXPERIENCE!! at a salon that I have ever had. I will never return nor will I recommend anyone. Taryn had no respect for my time or, hair health and did not follow any of my request and frankly should probably go back to cosmetology school. read more

This was my first time at J Stanley Salon. From the day I came into the Salon to make my appointment to the day of my actual appointment, there was professionalism in this business. J. Stanley, Daijah, and Tawanna were very welcoming to me and all that came through the doors of the salon. J. Stanley continuously checked on his customers and the stylist progress. He constantly complimented and gave guidance as needed. I enjoyed the back, neck, & foot massage equipment. :-) Daijah did my two-strand twist and she did a wonderful job! Even now I'm being complimented on my hair. :-) Not only is J. Stanley a committed business man but definitely is a committed family man as well. There was so many returning customers that came through the doors throughout my time there, I was amazed by all the smiling faces that came through the doors. Definitely a welcoming atmosphere.
