As my co-workers tell me this is a Winston-Salem institution and they make some tasty Carolina style hot dogs here. I got the 2 hot dog special with a can of Cheerwine and chips for a little over 6 bucks. Not bad. The hot dogs are good too coming from a Chicago boy who loves Chicago style dogs. They toast their buns for a nice crunchy texture and they have a unique neon red dog. The cole slaw is nice a creamy and the chili is good too. Not much seating including the stumps outside but this is a good small divey location that seems family run and just plain old good. read more

Good dog with everything a bit small but really normal size Very tasty with the lightly toasted bun. Low cost meal.

Toasted bun, great dog. Get it "all the way" and you will not be sorry.

We went after reading the Our State article. It completely lived up to the expectation. Service with a smile, yummy (though messy) hot dogs, and a Cheerwine. All while sitting on a stump in the parking lot. Southern Hot dog Perfection! read more

BEST hot dogs in Winston Salem, hands down. Two all the way and a RC cola. Five stars right there.

These are the best hot dogs ever! I love this place. This is the perfect southern hot dog. All you need is a Cheerwine and you have a perfect meal. read more

Best Hot Dogs in town! Been to all the greats in town, but I keep going back to Pulliams for "two ATW no onions". I add a back and forth of Big Ed's hot sauce and a little extra mustard! Love the toasted buns and a Cheerwine bottle to wash the deliciousness down! read more

After reading a few years ago that this was voted as one of the best places to go get a hotdog in the country, I knew I had to make a special trip to see what it was all about. I first drove down with my mom a few years ago. The place itself doesn't look like very much. No inside searing, old building, a get your own drink style of lift up cooler, but it works for the style of food that they serve. If it's a nice day and you want to chill out, you can always catch a seat of the several stumps they have sitting outside. The hotdogs come wrapped in a paper napkin, so they are best eaten right there on the spot. I'm not sure how they fix them or what they are made of, but the dogs are unusually red. Very tasty though! The buns are toasted just right and it's just as all around savory experience you won't forget if you're looking for a good dog. read more

I've been a customer of Pulliam's for many years and I love both the BBQ and the hotdogs. The BBQ is unlike any I've had anywhere in the world. The meat is very minced and has an unusual flavor. Yesterday a friend had surgery and for the first time I got takeout in pints. Three people who had never had Pulliam's BBQ sandwiches got to try it for the first time. Two loved the taste and one did not. The "slaw" used on the BBQ sandwiches is not traditional southern coleslaw. The slaw is actually a coarse chopped, homemade sauerkraut. If you like kraut, you will probably love the BBQ sandwich. The takeout was wonderful and enjoyed by all but one of my friends. As someone else said, Pulliam's BBQ can be an acquired taste. But for me, it was love at first bite because I am a kraut lover. read more

Went there for the first time a couple days ago, thanks in part to yelp reviews. They have amazing Hot dogs. Their sauerkraut is amazing, buns are buttery toasted and extremely delicious. There were several people working and all were very helpful and friendly. Can't wait to try their BBQ! read more

I grew up on this stuff and it is an acquired taste. I introduced my husband & son to the awesomeness of it and we all have different opinions. They absolutely love the hot dogs, of course, but I am a BBQ fan. It is a totally different kind of BBQ and it is not good without the slaw they put on it. Anytime I get back to Winston I try to get over there because you won't find that kind of food anywhere else. I think the really greatest part is it doesn't matter how long it's been since the last time I walked through the door, they always remember me and call me by name. I guess growing up right beside the place has it's good points. read more

The best hotdogs and drinks for the best price it is a little greasy but it's delicious

Since 1910, they have been making some of the best hot dogs you'll ever eat. When I was a small child in the late sixties and early 70s, the hot dogs only came two ways, with slaw and without..but later, they started making them with your choice of traditional NC fixin's, like mustard, slaw, chili and onions. They are delightfully delicious grill toasted buns, and grilled, red, hot dogs! The BBQ is GREAT too!!! Old Time recipe, served on a bun with a wonderful fermented kraut/slaw. Don't expect Lexington or Eastern NC style BBQ. It is Pulliams style, and it is oh so delicious! Great selection of soda pop and B&G Pies! Great old time NW Piedmont food experience!!! Friendly, smiling staff will help to make it even better. read more

I grew up in Ogburn Station when I was a kid. I am now 62 years and I and my whole family loved the Pulliam hot dog and also loved the bbq. In my opinion the BBQ is the best I ever had. I live in Lexington and it is known nationally as the BBQ capitol. I personally would take a Pulliam BBQ to any Lexington BBQ any day of the week. read more

The HOT DOG'S were good and I think they left something out of the slaw. It has been a while since I had the hot dogs but I noticed a difference. Still good . read more

I just purchased two hotdogs from Pulliams on Old Walkertown Rd and was so disappointed. The quality of the hotdogs is atrocious; they are probably the cheapest hotdogs you can find. They are so salty that it was impossible to eat. Truly an awful experience. read more

I heard my wife say that Pulliam's was voted best hotdogs in the area, I'm assuming Winston-Salem, so we decided to try a couple today as we've lived in the area and had never tried one? I must say that I was not impressed, just an average hotdog, HOWEVER, if readers or anyone else wants to sample the best hotdog in Winston-Salem, I would have to suggest Allen's Dairy Treats/Dairy Queen, a local establishment since 1969. Great hotdogs, footlongs, and burgers and a singing ,dancing owner! These @ Allen's are by far the best hotdogs in Winston-Salem! read more

Not good at all. They fixed your food with no gloves the place was dirty just not a good experience for me.

on our way to jacksonville we drove through w-s and found this lovely little place for bbq. loved their bbq and the cheerwine was satisfying. there's a picnic area of tree stumps to sit and relax and enjoy your sandwich. thanks for making a sensational sandwich. hope you will be around for many generations to come. read more

I have been going to Pulliams since I went to Bowman Gray Stadium to see the Myers Brothers and Curtis Turner ( my favorite) and Glenn Wood race with my uncles in the mid 1950's. We always stopped by Pulliams. I can remember the day I walked in my grandmother's house after school one day and she told me that Mr. Pulliam had passed away. Have taken my kids there and now they enjoy going there when they are in town..Love the hot dogs. Bill Knight Stoneville, N.C. read more

What can I say? Get a few dogs, all the way. Skip the barbecue. Busy place, no seating other than stumps and tailgates. Can't wait to go back. read more

Best Hot Dog on earth, be ready to wait in line and be thankful for the opportunity! Skip the BBQ (Sorry Pulliams) and get some all the way dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

I was introduced to Pulliam's almost two years ago. It HAS to be the BEST hotdog I've ever eaten, hands down. The building doesn't look like it would house such a wonderful treat, so don't judge a book by its cover. You have to stand to eat your dog inside, but that just gives you an excuse to eat "just one more" since you cant feel your belt getting tighter. For me, chili makes a hotdog, and they've got some FINE chili. Oh, and the bun AND the hot dog are grilled! What an incredible experience!! read more

BEST hot dog I've ever eaten! It's on the other side of town from where I live and that's probably a good thing or I would be there 3 times a week. The toasted bun and red weiners make the dog what it is. I usually get 3 with no onions and a cold Diet Mt. Dew from the cooler. It's a family business and now run by brother and sister Mark & Gayla. They know just about everyone by name when they walk in the door. You have to look for it or you will drive right by it! read more

I've been going to Pulliams since the 1950s, and to me it was then and still is the best hotdog in the world! I normally get my hotdogs Carolina Style with mustard, chili, slaw (and sometimes onions), but at Pulliams I get them how they were served in the 1950s when you simply asked for a hotdog. That was and still is for me with slaw only. The great taste of a Pulliam's hotdog is purely from that cheap red dye colored weenie, surrounded by a great tasting bun whose edge was toasted on the flat top grill in yellow grease (not butter), and covered with their tasty slaw. Of course this entire concoction must be wrapped in a cheap napkin. The napkin imparts just the right amount of precise flavor into the slaw and greasy bun that brings the whole thing together. You know the taste of hotdogs, like any food, have everything to do with where & how you were raised. Anyway, to those of us who were brought up on slaw covered hotdogs, Pulliams has at least one of the best! For that same group of people, their BBQ sandwich is pretty good too! Their BBQ is not like the other Lexington style BBQ of the area. It is finely chopped, rather mushy, and flavored with their special Pulliams BBQ sauce. It must be covered with their special BBQ slaw that's more tart & without the mayonnaise that's mixed in their hotdog slaw. About 10 years ago, Pulliams stopped using their specially baked square buns kept in a steamer for their BBQ sandwich. These days they use a conventional round sesame seed covered bun. Since they stopped using those special square buns, their BBQ sandwich just hasn't been the same. Their BBQ sandwich is good! Don't get me wrong! But there is as good or better BBQ, especially in Lexington. Anyway, I just described Pulliam's total menu. Hotdogs & BBQ sandwiched is all they cook. If you want french fries or anything else, like a place to sit, then you need to go elsewhere! But I really really do love Pulliams hotdogs! For northerners (like my wife), or those who wants sauerkraut or relish on their dogs, try Sonic or Nathans! read more
