Yum! We had the chopped pork plate plate with 2 sides for $8.99, the special of the day. We also had the sweet potatoes fries which were tasty. Their sweet BBQ sauce is really tasty. The staff and owner were nice and made sure we had everything we needed. We will visit again! read more

Great ribs! I've been coming here since 2011, and have always been pleased with the food and service. I can't remember ever getting anything but the ribs...they are that good! The decor is old 70's with dead animal heads on the walls and tables covered in ads, typical of Mom and Pop restaurants that have been around for decades. It's a very comfortable atmosphere, the wait staff are always friendly and call you "honey" and "sugar" and just make you feel right at home. Give them a try and write your own review. A little pricey but well worth it.... The ribs are very tasty and tender .... I eat there at least once or twice a month.

Me and my husband travel to all states trying all different types of food and restaurants. JR rib shack was a solid 3, and that's only because the ribs were a good size. The customer service was a 0 extremely rude, I asked for a Togo fork and the lady was sarcastic grabbing a hand full of forks putting them in the bag, they were busy so I tried to look past the customer service. The food was terrible, I ordered a pulled chicken sandwich and it looked like cat food and tasted like it came out of a can. The bbq bake beans were reheated so much that they were dry and the beans were burnt. The green beans tasted old, they were extremely cold like they came straight from the can. The only good thing was the ribs that my husband liked, I did not enjoy the ribs they tasted like they have also been reheated. I hope this helps others no hate to Jr rib shack hopefully other people have a better experience and they don't treat others like this. Hope this helps. read more

As we had trouble with a previous restaurant closing early despite their phone recording and website, I called ahead to verify with the manager what time the restaurant was closing (it was New Year's Day). She told me that they would be closing around 9:00 pm - 9:30 pm. We arrived at the restaurant at approximately 7:00 pm. When we placed our order for all-you-can-eat combos, the waitress stated that they were closing in an hour. They locked up at 8:00; therefore, had I relied on the manager's assertion that they would remain open at least until 9:00, I would have found myself locked out of the restaurant and a long way from another place to eat on New Year's Day. My husband ordered ribs and chicken. I ordered the ribs and sliced pork. My husband's chicken was warm, but both his and my ribs were cold, as was the sliced pork. My corn wasn't hot enough to melt the butter, so I sent it back. The ribs were tough and not very good. My husband speculated that they served the food cold intentionally so that we would not order any more. He may not be too far off the mark. I will not return to this restaurant, nor would I recommend it to anyone who likes to have hot food served to them. read more

When I feel a hankerin' for some good ol' barbeque, I call upon J.R.'s Rib Shack to satisfy. Let me tell ya, folks, this little hole-in-the-wall offers up some good eats. I've been here several times, and they have never failed to impress my taste buds. The meats (beef, chicken, pork, or turkey) are smoked over pecan and hickory wood to perfection. My personal preference, the beef, is always very flavorful. However, if you are like me and like your smoked meats drenched in sauce, nary you worry - J.R.'s offers some very delicious barbeque sauces: mild, sweet, and spicy (and extra spicy, by request) at the table. Any barbeque joint worth its salt also provides an offering of delicious sides to accompany their smoked meats. J.R.'s offers most of the standard barbeque sides: baked beans, garlic toast, collard greens, cole slaw, potato salad, mashed potatoes, Brunswick stew, corn-on-the-cob, and green beans. I usually go for the baked beans, mashed potatoes, and/or garlic toast. Did you save room for dessert? If your waistline can handle it (or you just don't care about such things), dig in to the cobbler or banana pudding. Yum! Though J.R.'s might not look like much, for a satisfying meal that is easy on the wallet and good ol' southern hospitality, this is the place to be. read more

Haven't had a bad meal yet! Been several times and it is amazing. I have the jumbo pork and turkey sandwiches, outstanding. I have also had the half chicken and also half a rack of ribs, both were very good. Baked beans and Mac n cheese is delicious! I also recommend the banana pudding! I also had my work thanksgiving meals catered by JR's twice now, 2016 and 2018. Smoke turkey, ham and sides. The food was amazing and I had nothing but good praise from the 100+ people at each event. THIS is THE place if you want great barbeque...the Chicken is amazing--smoky and cooked through--something many BarB-Q places fail the test with. JR's chicken is highly recommended as are their ribs: tender, fall-off-the-bone delicious...the sliced pork (I prefer it pulled but that seems to be something many folks have no clue about here in Panama City) is generally moist, tender and smoky...We've not had the beef , so I can't comment on that...Their sides are fabulous, especially the macaroni, fried okra, Brunswick stew, slaw, fries and greens...served hot and delicious, no extra seasonings needed! Nothing fancy here--just a clean little Bar-B-Que place that has wonderfully attentive servers and terrific food. Well, the first time I went here my buds and I waited about twenty minutes to even get our drinks. They seemed busy so I didn't bother much. Especially since the food was decent. Second time we went in we waited another 15 minutes before we decided to go somewhere else. This place was not even busy this time. I have just moved to PCB about a month ago, and I really enjoy "mom and pop" resturants because they feel very at home, and comfortable and usually have superb food choices. Me, my fiancé and his father went to JR's and it was awesome. So friendly, clean for a small rib place and the food was true southern style pit smoked food! Our bill was a little less than 40$ for the three of us but the amount of food you got was insane! We took a ton back home with us and it heats up just as good the next day! Well worth the visit to JR's! Fast service, good BBQ, and a very comfortable atmosphere. read more

Not only did they have to rebuild after the CAT FIVE storm last year they were out there feeding people before they did it. Not every day, but far more than the big corporate places. I love the food, the people the small atmosphere and the prices. read more

Got a pulled, actually shredded, pork sandwich and fries. Would give it a grade of a D. Not smoked and honestly didn't really taste like BBQ. Garlic bread for bun helped but didn't save it. My coworker and I both ordered the Chicken and Rib combo Food was terrible for the following reasons 1. Meat and Garlic bread were served practically cold. Like the temperature your leftovers get after you forget to put them in the fridge for a few hours 2. DARK meat chicken was drier than cardboard. 3. The ribs were of good size, but full of fat and gamy 4. "Side" of french fries were more like 11 medium sized french fries 5. $15 for that meal was definitely not worth it We came at prime dinner hours and it seemed like the food should have been served fresh. The best dry BBQ I had in a while. I had a combo player and it was outstanding. I'm a BBQ fan and have eaten all over the country. This place is worth the trip. The ribs were tender and had a wonderful flavor without any sauce. The chicken was also tender and the skin was crisp. I had green beans and collar greens both were very good. If i had written this review after my first visit, they would have gotten 4 stars, but the second time i went the food wasn't as great. The first time i went the ribs were absolutely delicious, meat falling off the bone and good flavor. The second time i went the ribs were kind of chewey and were served kind of cold. I will go again sometime in the future and i'll base my decision to come back depending on that my experience that day. Overall definately check it out. read more
