The roads around Liverpool Street aren't the best and can be pretty rough on a bike especially when suspension pretty much doesn't exist. I've blown two tires trying to beat traffic and each time I've called around to the bike shops. This one has been the only one that has managed to find 5 minutes to squeeze me in immediately and get me on my way rather than telling me to leave my bike for a day or two while they continue with the routine maintenance. It's much appreciated as I hate having to give up my bike for something as routine as a quick tire repair. I should learn how to do this myself, but for a tenner for labour, I'd rather just pass the job on to these friendly folks.

Why say things when I am ordering and completely say something else. I called the head office and I am told it will take roughly 7-8 weeks and the w-6 weeks may not be weeks it could be business days (that bits interesting) and whilst I was on the call it "got disconnected" (strange). I would definitely avoid buying things from cycle surgery. Not surprised now as I looked at other review forums. #learnfrommymistakes.

Unlike the friendly nature of other bike shops in the city, this mecca for the cycling enthusiast manages to put you off the moment you walk in the shop. Whether it's to buy a new inner tube or shell out a couple of large on a new bike, the staff treat visitors other than their mates with a disdain only seen in the finest of club queues. However, if you're looking for something specific or rare, this really is the place to go - just be prepared for a slightly galling experience, both when you speak to the apish people behind the counter and when you see your credit card receipt.

They ponce around as if they know more than Lance Armstrong or Chris Hoy put together. Peer disdainfully at your ride if it's not worth more than 4000 pounds. Actually, they would probably still frown upon a 8000 pound bike, because the front brake lever or some other component is not made out of carbon! So it would be okay then if the staff treated you with friendly honest service. They should all go on a trip to America and see the meaning of customer service! I'm off to wiggle my saddle elsewhere.

The stores is spread out, well-light and airy; so no claustrophobia and squeezing past other customers hoping not to get something caught and pull down a whole rows of bikes! The killer for me is that about 1/4 of the wall space in this big store is full of bike gadgets, parts, and accessories... it's a mouth watering and wallet scaring experience to peruse it all and try not to buy everything as a 'must-have'. They have a broad range of bikes and prices to satisfy everyone, large selection of helmets, perhaps a bit light in the 'clothing' department, but with how often and important bike clothing is, not a big black mark for this. The staff are highly knowledgeable, and very friendly and helpful. You can roll in with your bike and they will take a quick look at an issue you're having to see if they can give it a quick fix or advice (although, my bike is from Cycle Surgery, so that may play a part). So far, the staff/mechanics haven't pressured me to do extra work/fixes, and have been honest about what work is necessary. Store hours are another big plus, 8am to 7pm on weekdays, so available to the all important bike commuting crowd and for an emergency repair or part. If heaven had a bike store, I reckon this would be it!

Personally I think it is a great little shop, but then I do cycle round in ripped shorts and 3 year old trainers - on a bike that only gets washed by the rain. Their target market is firmly families and leisure cyclists, which is not surprising given the local area, but they do stock some serious kit too. I've used them in the past for quite a few repairs, and they have always been helpful, cheap, and fast. UPDATE***** Thought I'd update my review to let people know that Sidcup Cycles has a Saturday morning ride starting at 8.30 split into different levels of ability (something to suit everyone). I went out with them and they are fantastically friendly, even to the point that one of the guys came back for me when I got lost. I'd highly recommend both the shop and the ride - i'll be back !
