Pieces offered were functional, decorative, or both; I ended up purchasing a striking vase from a local artist (Pine Hollow Pottery). The owner (Joe Pinder) was available to tell us about the art, the gallery and upcoming shows and festivals. (His dog was also hanging out, and was very cute.) Pieces were surprisingly affordable (I'm used to the art shows in a different area, I guess, where products are more costly). Overall, I would definitely keep this place in mind on a return visit to Galena for art with a personal touch and a local flavor.

Yes, you probably could find almost…read moreany book on the Internet and order it to be delivered to you, but what if you really weren't sure what you were looking for? You need to find a small, curated, family friendly book store. Well for us it's Galena Book & Paper. I'm a true history buff and my partner is into fiction, opposites in the same place. We both love to browse the selection, read some, then make some choices. Jason, the clerk, welcomed us as we entered and asked if there was anything we we specifically looking for. We smiled and told him we're browsers who've been here before and we're searching for some special reads. After about 45 minutes of browsing we found our choices for this trip. Six books and two note cards(plantable seeds inside) for less than $150. They are always welcoming and have a great variety in all categories. So happy they are in Galena. Thanks for all you provide for the greater community. Us too.

They seem to specialize in self-help/modern…read morephilosophy/social issues type of titles, but there is plenty of fiction, history, local interest, and any other genre that you would expect. They sell beautiful posters at extremely reasonable prices as well as framing kits for them. There are offbeat greeting cards and writing supplies too. And quaint jigsaw puzzles! Back in the children's area there is a small shelf of graphic novels. However, some of these titles are definitely not for kids, e.g. The Road and 1984. Yikes!

She must have been following them around the store because she came over and fixed the displays the second they touched something. Then it happened.....My son picked up a piggy bank that looked like a basketball, dropped, and broke the item. I volunteered to pay for the item, but was honestly surprised when the store owner did make me pay for the item. She even threw the broken pieces into the garbage, not asking if I wanted to try salvaging the item. I was very surprised that the store did not accept the accident. It would be the same thing as someone spilling a drink in a restaurant or dropping their food. I could never imagine being given another and being charged for the accident. I did express my irritation with the owner's response to the accident. I guess I just have had too many good experiences with customer service that this came as a shock. The owner told me that I should not be frustrated with her, but with my son. He was the one who dropped it. She even mentioned talking to him about it. I suppose I paid for parenting advice.... As a homeowner in the Galena Territories, we have shopped at this store previously with no problem. After this experience, we will not be coming back. We will also not be sending any of our guests to this shop.

There are pendulums; books introducing one to paganism, or Wicca specifically as well; puzzles; tarot cards; pins; diaries; greeting cards; and so on. Nearly half of the shop features supplies for fiber crafts, so of course you'll find yarn here but also yarn bowls, cross stitch and embroidery kits, and so on. I bought several beautiful rolls of wrapping paper, which I spent a ridiculous amount of money in but it was really gorgeous and I can't wait to give some gifts now! The folks here also run a ghost tour. I overheard the proprietor speaking with some other customers, and he mentioned they do a 90 minute walking tour. I was so bummed that I had plans tonight (even more bummed that those plans didn't really materialize!!). Next time I visit I would like to take a ghost tour. It was especially interesting listening to these folks talk with the owner because they themselves are ghost hunters, and they were asking about haunted places and said they like to take their own equipment out to explore. The store is not really accessible, unfortunately. There is a big step up from the sidewalk to enter. If you have mobility issues but can manage a large step up (probably at least 6-8 inches) it may work, but wheelchair users will not be able to enter. The owners seem to be cultivating a welcoming, inclusive atmosphere, so if you need assistance I'm sure they would be happy to help.

Even though I was there during hours the store should have been open. I called the store described the purse and the vender Linda Davis agreed to ship it. I paid for the purse, my credit card was charged, only to receive a text stating shipping would be an additional $10. Although I was not happy my purse was being held hostage for an additional $10, I stated I would pay $8.50 which was the price of flat rate small box shipping. Linda said her $10 was firm. She stated she deserved to be compensated for placing my tiny purse in a box. Should I be compensated for gas for my 3 trips to the store? Crazy right? As a business owner I can not comprehend this poor business practice. I received a text from Linda stating she would refund my money since I would not pay her firm $10 shipping fee. I would pay the $8.50 the post office would charge, but she said NO! It was $10 or nothing. I have contacted the chamber hoping that Angie can help resolve this issue.
