They helped him create a custom design that was exactly what he knew I would love. We went back later to figure out wedding bands and they helped us come up with multiple options and the benefits of each. They ended up subtly incorporating the sapphire design of my ring into my husband's band. It turned out really nice. My engagement ring and band are a beautiful set. I get a lot of compliments on them. I also got a pearl solitaire necklace from them to wear on my wedding day. It turned out exactly the way I wanted. It was beautiful! It's also nice that whenever I go in to get my ring cleaned, they know me. You don't get that from big jewelers. The guys at McCoy remember you because they work directly with you and they work on your jewelry themselves. They are an awesome team to work with and make beautiful jewelry. I definitely recommend them to anyone, especially for engagement/wedding jewelry.

I had a deeply disappointing experience with McCoy Jewelers that I feel compelled to share,…read moreespecially for anyone considering them for something as costly and meaningful as an engagement or wedding ring. After reading yelp reviews, I was drawn to them based on the reviews and them being a small business and operating since 1973 I took in my late father's vintage wedding band to have it resized so I could wear it. The original size was 10.75, and they measured my finger at a small of 9.25--a reduction of 1.5 sizes. They quoted me $250 for the job, with half due upfront. The technicians were articulate and displayed skill. I trusted their expertise and left the ring in their care. When I picked up the ring, it felt uncomfortably tight. Their response was simply, "Give it a few weeks." As time went on, the ring became so tight I couldn't wear it at all. When I returned, they insisted the work was done correctly at the time and blamed my finger for supposedly changing size. They offered no solution, only excuses. I asked them to resize it to a 9.5 or 9.75 so I could wear it. The refused. When I tried to discuss my concerns, the owner dismissed me with condescending double talk, suggesting I was just a difficult customer because I hadn't worn jewelry before. I felt insulted and taken advantage of. To add insult to injury, they kept the gold removed from my ring during resizing. For a typical men's gold band, reducing by 1.5 sizes removes about 1.2 to 1.5 grams of gold--worth roughly $120 to $150 at current prices. Ethical jewelers follow the practice of returning this gold to the customer, but McCoy's did not. Instead, they kept it, likely to resell or reuse, which felt dishonest and exploitative. It's important to mention that getting engaged and dealing with expensive and meaningful jewelry for a lifetime is already a stressful time. You need to be able to trust the people you're working with. Unfortunately, McCoy Jewelers only made the process more stressful and left me with a bad taste. Eventually, I had the ring properly resized at a reputable jeweler in Chicago for $85, and now it fits perfectly every day irrespective of the time of day, the weather, or my body temperature. In summary: McCoy Jewelers overcharged, kept my gold, failed to stand by their work, and treated me poorly. I support local businesses whenever I can, but I cannot recommend this one. My experience shows that, at McCoy's, the customer is definitely not always right.

It's a 20 second job. Left the watch. Got a claim check, admittedly didn't look at it. Picked up the watch today and was charged $12.84 for the work. Basically a 20 cent pin and 20 second job. Unbelievable price gouging. I hope they pay their jewelers an hourly rate commensurate with what they charge for their work.

The crystal was scratched up pretty good as Dad was a carpenter and wore this every day. Showed minor wear, and had not run in years. I had considered just scrapping it, but was advised by Kaitlin to just have it looked at. I left the watch with them and was amazed that I had an estimate in days! The cost was MUCH less than what I had found on the internet from other repair places and did not include the new band! I couldn't be more pleased with this "new" watch! When I…read moretold the staff here that it's been happening every month, they said they'll order a new one for me; they said they will call me when it gets in. Well that was in November 2014. I came back in February to see why they haven't called me, because it was only supposed to take three months. Their excuse was that they were renovating so it has been delayed. I told them that it would have been reasonable to call me about the delay and I didn't understand what the renovation has to do with the order. They said it'll take about a few weeks. A MONTH LATER, I went back to the store and they apparently put in the wrong sku number. Their excuse this time was that my ring had two different sku numbers so they put in the "right" one this time and that it'll take four weeks. Guess what? It's mid-April now and still nothing. I am rather disappointed at this location because of the unprofessional staff at this location who doesn't care about their customers when their other locations are rather pleasant and easy-going. I am not saying that Kay jewelers is bad, just this location. So if you need to buy, resize, or whatever it is that you want from Kay Jewelers, STAY AWAY FROM THIS LOCATION. They do not care about me so I would assume that they won't care for you either.
