P. Licks scattered around Metro Boston, so if you live out here the odds are excellent you've been to one and know what they sell. But if you live outside of Boston (like I do) the odds are pretty good you're not familiar with them, as I was not. So, here's a word of advice, if you have plans on visiting one for the first time, you really ought to do yourself a favor and scrutinize their menu before you visit. Otherwise, you'll be gawking at their incredible menu board for half an hour. You'll have to whittle down your selection between hard and soft ice creams, hard and soft yogurts, frappes, smoothies, sundaes, splits, ice cream cakes and pies and sandwiches and cupcakes, a coffee bar and a bakery with scones, coffee cake, muffins, cookies, pop tarts, cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, bagels, croissants, and more. Everything is listed on a long menu board that spans the full-size ordering counter, so it's not very easy to see everything unless you strut the length of the counter, so that's why I suggest a little reconnaissance. Our grand kiddies wanted hot chocolates, so we got them a small ($3.75) and a medium ($4.25). They drank them up, but I did mooch one sip and loved it - deep chocolate flavor and not overpoweringly sweet. My wife and I returned to our Bronx roots and shared a chocolate egg cream ($5.90) and it was as good as I remember getting at our soda shop under the elevated D Train subway tracks on Jerome Avenue. After bowling with friends and their kids, we decided we needed a little extra sweet treat! Just around the corner, we were able to walk to JP Licks and get something tasty! There was just a short line when we got there, which gave us time to review their many flavors options. There was just line move quick and before we knew it we were at the front and the pressure was on. As a big fan of Oreos/cookies and creams I was intrigued by the multiple flavors of cookies and cream that started with a different base than the typical vanilla ice cream. I went with the salted caramel cookies and creams, and was glad I did. Absolutely delicious! There is some inside seating but not much. It seems most take theirs to roam and shop at other stores. Overall, it was a tasty visit, with some unique flavors, friendly staff even in the hectic atmosphere. They were quick to help us get our orders in- we were the only ones in line (4 of us), and I swear each of us had a different person stopping our ice cream. This J.P. Licks is conveniently located in the Legacy center. It gets crowded, but the line moves. There is regular, vegan, and soft serve ice cream. We went here twice. The ice cream has a nice creamy texture, but the flavors did not thrill me. I am a chocolate lover and the chocolate ice cream here was lifeless. Got a clump of hair in the ice cream and rude service I have called that same day and multiple times since for a refund but nothing but a run around claiming the refund will come. It never did and I'll never be back Long version Payed almost $20 for two ice creams did not get the Sunday toppings I wanted because the employee didn't bother to ask just assumed. When I told him that wasn't what I asked for he was rude and told me it's what comes with it. This isn't true they will offer substitute toppings for sundaes but this employee felt other wise. Great location and cute cow theme. There is a cow in front of the store and attracts attention. They had interesting flavors and I sampled a few. I like the peanut butter chocolate one and then sampled pistachio. Pistachio had slight artificial flavor. I asked for a scoop of peanut butter but he ended up scooping pistachio. We ordered a small vanilla with sprinkles, medium cookies & cream, & a coffee cookies and cream on a cake cone. The cone was fresh so that was good but the sprinkles seemed a little stale. Whenever I have time (and some room in my diet for some extra calories) I stop by there. Friendly staff that let you taste as many flavors as you want. I can never take more than a couple though as I'm worried about holding up the line as their are always people in line. It moves fast though as they prepare everything will and they have do many flavors it's hard to pick. But the staff are helpful and will give you their insights and as I mentioned will let you try anything so you can be sure. Good quality and price. Regret my decision to go here. On the list of iced tea, it said " black tea", so that is what I ordered. The girl had a bit of an attitude and said "we only have hibiscus in iced tea". The maple butter walnut ice cream had frost bite. It also tasted like butter pecan. The attitude of the employees was a 5/10. It needs improvement. Instead of saying dogs are not allowed. They could have asked if this is a service dog. People need to remember that not all disabilities are physical. Some are internal and cannot be seen. This is why I am fat. I am addicted to JP Licks. This location is bigger than the one in Harvard Square, but the indoor seating is limited. There are tables outside as well, you should def grab a seat outside on a nice warm day I love the all the diff flavors here, especially cookie dough and cake butter, peanut butter chocolate chip, strawberry etc. They also have special monthly flavors such as the salted caramel cookies and cream. I love the ice cream here! There is always a great variety of flavors and the ice cream really is delicious. I got the thin mint and my friend got the oreo cheesecake, both were flavors of the month (March). I think the portions and price are pretty much on par with other homemade ice cream shops in the area. A word of warning though, this location is quite the high school hangout on a Friday night. It was really loud and filled with teenagers. The turnaround on seating is pretty quick though so there is generally not a big problem getting a table. read more
