From the consultation, I had 100% confidence in her knowledge, ability, understanding what (exactly) I was looking for and my new permanent eyebrows reflect that my confidence in Jamie was spot on! During consultation, I honestly didn't have to ask questions--she concisely explained, step by step, what to expect during the procedure, how we, together would determine shape and color, and the healing process. Each person's skin texture, ability to hold color, and exactly how she would "map" my face to get the correct natural brow line was explained in detail. Her work was flawless. Although the different…read moreschools provided two days of learning, unfortunately, this was not enough for me (most schools offer a two-day training). Honestly, it didn't prepare me to have confidence in starting to perform procedures on people's faces. It's my art, and I want to show the world that I am skillful and educated. I have HIGH standards!! Gina Maya's permanent makeup school offered a five-day course program. This five-day program is almost the same as the 5-day program requirement in New Jersey, which has the highest standard in permanent makeup education in the USA. She helped me enhance my skills and increase my level of education about PMU. Some schools take your money! So beware. Ask the other schools if they are dual-licensed. Gina is licensed by the Illinois State Board of Education to teach as well as licensed by the Illinois Department of Public Health. What are some of the things you get with Gina? She discusses color theory, machines, anesthetics, skin types, your client's health history, skin conditions, and different options to provide permanent makeup. You will learn microblading, shading, and hand tapping. It's a lot!! The best part was Gina allowed her students to retake the theoretical portion of the courses that a student needed a refresher with at no additional cost. You have to let her know you want to relearn or do a refresher. She will allow you to do your model's touch-up skills portion, which is usually not the case with other PMU schools. As a student of Gina, you have the opportunity to start your business in her classroom and rent a bed/space from her daily or monthly to get your business started as long as it doesn't interfere with the courses she provided. I thought this was a fantastic opportunity for anyone who may not have a space in their own home or isn't ready to rent their own space. However, if you decide not to rent a bed from her, as her student, she provides support and assistance through voice message, text message, or phone calls. She may not respond immediately because she's teaching, but if you text her 911 or call her because you have an actual lousy situation, she will stop the course to review your case and help you. If you need additional help, talk to Gina, and she will work on a mentorship plan with you. Just ask her, and she will find a way to make it work for you both! Gina's support goes above, and beyond the average first two microblading courses I have taken. I am so happy someone from a Facebook group recommended her to me. She is a highly dependable instructor. She is a real support system in this very independent industry. She continues to help me to keep going. I finally opened my own business for permanent makeup. Gina is REALLY CARING! She really wants you to be successful! I have said so much already, but do not hesitate to reach me if you have any questions about my experience. Upon, arriving we were greeted with a friendly face - A sweet older dog named Nemo. My friend went off for her massage and Paula (the owner) led me to a peaceful room for a hydrating facial. Paula has been in the industry for 15 years, and gave a very soothing facial and massage. Afterwards, I was led to a back room that is about the size of a hotel bathroom and not well ventilated. There I placed my feet in what I originally thought was a slow cooker (but really it was a small foot bath). I was told the original chair (in her picture) was not moved to this location because they would have to tear up flooring to install it. She was very sanitary and made sure to use clean supplies. She will even explain how she cleans everything in case you need reassurance. As for the pedicure, she filed the toenails and scraped underneath them with what felt like a small knife. She gave good polish recommendations and carefully applied to the nails. She was great with putting on flip flops and making sure my toes didn't smudge. As for the manicure, same process for toenails except I dipped my hands in warm bowl of scented water. The pain points for me: she charged us for "classic pedicure" which should have included a foot massage. Instead, she put on a scented mask and then placed my feet in the bath. As for the manicure, she put on some "quick dry spray" that did not work. My nails were smudged and chipped within 30 minutes of leaving. Additionally, she did not touch my cuticles.
