Quality Pools & Spas by Dick Mackey - My crystal clear pool that is now completely cloudy because of Mr. Mackey.

Quality Pools & Spas by Dick Mackey

(10 reviews)

$$

I've owned my pool for three years. Every summer it has been sparkling, clear and clean. I went to…read morebuy chemicals for my pool right before the Fourth of July. Two of Dick Mackey's young employees ran a test on my water and sold me $200 worth of products one product I had never used, it was to pull metals out of the water. I put the product in my pool that night. Twelve hours later when we woke up my sparkling clear pool was COMPLETELY CLOUDY. My pool is so cloudy you can not see to the bottom. I went back to try and fix what had happened two consecutive days after that first visit and was told to do different things and sold more chemicals spending more money. I was so upset and frantic to fix this problem that had never occurred before that I bought more chemicals and followed more of Dick Mackey's instructions. The day before the fourth of July, three days into this ordeal, I confronted Mr. Mackey and was told by him "the smoke from the Canadian wildfires must be causing my pool to be cloudy,". What!? Absolutely not. The smoke in June that was worse NEVER affected my pool. I was sold a product that first day that should never have been put in my pool. I have a huge heater that has copper lines. Mr. Mackey then proceeded to blame ME for the cloudiness of my pool. He told me that I didn't read the directions properly on the papers he had given me, which was totally completely untrue. The papers had also been marked up by him, and his staff. I was told to do the opposite of what was written on the papers. I had the proof right in my hands. On top of Mr. Mackey's disrespectful behavior towards me, two young employees admitted wrong doing. One admitted on the third day he gave me advice on chemicals he should not of and the other who had offered to stop by after work to look at my pool asked me not to mention that he offered to stop by in front of Mr. Mackey "because Mr. Mackey may get the wrong idea". I never had this young man at my house but if that is against the rules why did you offer when I was in the store . On top of ruining my sparkling clear water I've had for three summers in a row, Mr. Mackey refused to let me return chemicals I bought from him In the three days I was at his store frantically trying to follow his instructions to clear my pool. These chemicals were unopened and unused and I had a receipt!? I'm so shocked at this man and his employee's unprofessional behavior, lack of knowledge, excuses, inability to take responsibility for ruining my water, selling me products I didn't need and overall disregard for his customer's distress that I had to write about my experience. The last slap in the face was when Mr. Mackey told me not to get so upset, "his pool has been cloudy all summer and he is still trying to get it clear". I'm sorry sir but my pool was never cloudy and if yours is as you stated you are doing something wrong and again should not be giving advice or selling pool supplies or hiring young kids to sell your pool supplies who have no clue what they are talking about either. I now have to hire a company to come drain and fix my water.

So starting off.. i feel that Mr. Mackey spends so much time with his customers which We love. I am…read morea true researcher and "review reader" before i buy anything. Mr. Mackey was able to answer any and all of my questions without hesitation. He is extremely knowledgeable about all spa aspects. We purchased a PDC biscayne luxury spa on July 24th. There is a 20 week wait, not due to quality pools but a shortage and backorder. We welcome the wait as we need to put a deck on and there is a lumber shortage now. This is also a PA company which i feel comfortable about. We cannot wait to receive our hot tub. Thank you Mr. Mackey! Will add to my review once spa is delivered.

Terrible, terrible experience. WE DO NOT recommend AT ALL (RUN)…read more Paid cash and waited 4 weeks for delivery (only after I called from not hearing from anyone), then it sat in multiple boxes strewn across the yard for another 3 1/2 weeks after high heat/rains, it was a mess as you could imagine. Then the Subcontractor came and ripped the liner off ground from old pool I took down and didn't come back for weeks (instead of coming to FINISH ours, he would go to others claiming he couldn't bump them, but continuously bumped me), which THEN CAUSED a MUD PIT.. it cost me more money to get modified stone then and constant labor to "try" and keep it dry.. it was a mess, then only then after repeated calls they finally came back and put the pool up and left an ABSOLUTE mess.. I now have to hire someone to remove the mounds and mounds of piles they left in the yard, on top of the empty boxes and garbage... this was hands down thee worst experience. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT go here. Don't make the same mistake we made, horrific experience, absolute shame.

We purchased our pool in May. Paid in full. Waited a few weeks knowing they were busy. They…read moredelivered the pool supplies at the end of June. Which are now still sitting there in the yard ruining the grass. Then they outsourced a excavator. Who dug down deeper than the pool installers said needed to be done. He came and right off the bat tried telling us things were going cost more money due to rock and being uneven. We had all the supplies in the yard he needed. Fill, tamper etc. He said he had to come back with a different machine and could use our stuff but it will be an additional $400/500 dollars. So we ended up leveling it ourselves. Now waiting for the installer to come. 8 weeks now. Absolutely crazy. I called the store manager. She couldn't get back to me. Dorothy said it would be set up and done by the beginning of July. Dave in the warehouse says he doesn't know what their schedule is. My next step is calling the attorney generals office to report the bad business practices and services of this company. We did not order a pool in May to be able to use at the end of the summer. I understand the Covid issues however most of the counties have been in the green since the middle of June. I think the new norm is blame Covid for not providing good customer service. Outside work does not have the same guidelines as if your working in an office. Also according to Dorothy they didn't have much above ground pools left they were almost sold out and that was in May. The installers that came out to check after the excavator said he did not need to go down that deep and we could have raised it instead of digging down. We were filling it in at the time they came and they said what we were doing was good. They only need two inches. As you can see from our leveling job the ground did not need to be excavated 5-7 inches down. It just needed to be level. The excavator also left us a mound of dirt we have to remove, when when we asked him to move it to the other lot for us, he of course had to come back with a bigger machine and it would cost more. We had to refill in 3-4 inches what he took out. And level it ourselves. Right after I wrote the initial review we were called and told the pool would be installed the next day. However it's now 11:30 the next day and the pool man said it's hot, the guys feel like they are going to pass out, we can make it tomorrow. We said so we ordered the water the next day because you said you'd be here today, do we need to cancel it? He said he will try to be there by 1pm, we shall see. This is seasonal work, pool installation is only done in the summer and spring. yes it's hot in the summer, no surprise there. Pool installers did not finish on the day they came out. Coming back again.

They have opened and closed our pool every year and performed maintenance and repairs as well. John, Dave, and Laura are always a pleasure to work with. We recommend them VERY highly.

Please sign in to view what happened to us!…read more We called them in April 2023. They said they had 2 cancellations & can have us swimming by the Fourth of July. Sound familiar? John acted like a professional when we met with him to learn about pools and equipment. Once they get your check and you sign on, David (The owner) is a big bully. Yells at you constantly. We also used their recommended electrician, Tom Price. Big mistake. They completed the liner of our pool on 8/16/23. The water coming from their hose to fill the pool was dirty & muddy so it took a bit of time, extra chemicals and a new automated vacuum to clean it up. We had to have retaining walls built on the backside of the pool which took us into September and then there was a problem with our gas heater (red tagged by gas company) and there was not any real swim time last year. They came back to open and the pool & it was green. It took a few days to clean up and when it did, I noticed a weird looking spot in the shallow end of the pool. I took my water to be tested and I told Laura about it. She said she would let them know. (John constantly manipulates the numbers when he's testing water) I didn't hear anything. Time passes, we are losing water and I started to feel funneling in the sand beneath the area. We are now in July and I told Laura again. John came out the next day, looked at the area, took pictures and told me he's never seen anything like & he said he'd turn it into the liner company. He never did. He also had me testing my pool for the leak and said he'd have David do a test on it. One year to the day 8/16/24, David came with Nick and told my husband he has a work order to patch the pool. Wait, what? Nobody said we needed a patch. We had no clue what was wrong yet. John knew though. When David looked in the pool he said it was already patched and he accused my husband of patching it. We were in our first swim season, still under warranty. (Read their warranty well) They gas lit us, ghosted us and lied to us the entire time. Nick put 4 patches in that day. They damaged our liner in multiple places or purchased a bad liner but they patched it during installation, right before my eyes. I videotaped the liner install. The video shows the holes, they are talking in the video about filling the holes and they patch the holes on video. This all took place in 2 minutes and 27 seconds. They are experts at this. Please see the pictures I screen shot from the video. Take note of the date, shape of the biggest hole and then the shape of the new patches. I've been going back & forth with John and his only worry was getting his hands on the video. I gave him multiple opportunities to come see it but he declined. He declined because he's fully aware as he was there holding up the liner so the guys could pull the material to do the patches. Their recommended electrician was right there holding up part of the liner also. They refuse to replace the liner to the fully functional new liner we purchased. So not only did they scam & steal from us what we purchased, they are refusing us a replacement. Do not rely on John's lie that he will register your equipment. He did not register one piece of my equipment including the liner. Latham pools, Imperial pools, Vinyl Works nor Hayward had any information. He blocked me from their Facebook page so I cannot leave a review. If you have or had problems with your liner from this company please reach out to me. It's my belief I'm not the only one. I do have a forgiving heart and if they decide to do the right thing by us, I would allow them to change the liner and amend my review appropriately.
