Established in 1998.
J&S Tire was started in 1998 with founding owners Jerry Knox and Steve Gill. Both had extensive experience as store managers and in middle management positions with Bridgestone/Firestone. This was before starting their own business in a town they loved and lived in. The business plan was and still is to provide quality service and tires at affordable prices in a way superior to their competition. Knox retired in 2012.
Meet the Business Owner: Steve G.
Steve Gill started his Firestone career in this very location in 1981. " I remember as a young boy coming to this store with my dad and buying tires, lawnmowers and appliances", Gill says. "I learned how to service tires from a store called S&H when I was 18. I later got a job as an assistant manager with Firestone at this store. I managed my first store at the age of 26 in Flint Michigan. Later in my career I was promoted to the Michigan District Coordinator while being based in Ann Arbor. I served the 32 company owned stores in Michigan. My major responsibilities included: human resources (hiring and training employees), inventory controls and overall support. I really enjoyed what I did but there was nothing like coming back to your own town and buying the store you know so well".
