Grew up in Montebello, I've been coming here since I was a kid. You can order a burrito from anywhere but this place hits you different. After coming home from a party late at night or nursing a hangover in the morning, the bacon breakfast and/or bean and cheese is always my cure to get thru my day. The one star is a reflection on how this establishment has changed for the worst. To the owners you might want to check with the lady working the register in the afternoon, i ordered Taquitos and they were being skimpy with the guacamole so I asked if I could get a little bit more. I finally returned today by chance, and as soon I bit into their taquitos, memories of my teenaged years flooded back. Funny how food can be so nostalgic! Located a block or so away from Best Buy Montebello I remember we use to come here 20 years ago for taquitos. After a long week of work, feeling hungry and didn't care about our diet we said J&S let's do this. Let me have 2 taquito, 2 taquito with cheese, Chili Cheese fries, saw they had a pastrami quesadilla? Let me try that too lol Thanks! Oh wait can't forget about a drink to go with all this food. Orange Bang it is. Nobody in line during afternoon, the cashier was nice and friendly and told me the spicy pico de Gallo salsa will be included with the order. 5 min and my order was ready to go. Nicely pack in individual styrofoam. Didn't realize the taquito was 2 per order. But wasn't complaining. Each order comes with a scoop full of creamy guac. Perfert compliment to the crunchy taquito and shredded beef. Think the cheese didn't add any additional flavor since you tasted more of the guac and salsa so the plain taquito is just as enjoyable. This is a go-to for us when we are wanting that cheat day grub. Granted, it is cash only, seating is minimal (more of a takeout spot if you're local or will eat a quick bite before heading to your next destination), and not always consistent when it comes to the amount of cheese on their chips and cheese or the grill on their grilled cheese, but if anyone asked me where to grab taquitos or breakfast burritos I'd direct them to J&S. My brother will travel from the San Diego area just to get his J&S fix before or after his visit with us - that's a testament to the tasty items they have here! I've been going to J & S for almost two decades now. I always get an order of grilled cheese, taquitos, and taco. I love the taste and the fact that they are 24 hours. I would go as a kid with my parents and ordered the exact same order. The green sauce is amazing here. I'm giving four stars instead of five because the last few times that I've gone, I got resistance on getting hot sauce for my food. I put one green sauce container on each one of my items, however I've been only given enough sauce for two of my items. I hope that these green hot sauce experiences were only isolated incidents and not becoming a trend. Without the sauce, the food just does not taste the same for me. I have been coming here for years. This place was known for its reliability in food, prices and service. Since the pandemic, everything has gone down, except the prices. Those have gone up, with the quality going way down. I used to really love this place and recommend it regularly, however after my last stop, I will not be returning. I was in shock at the order I received and then, after going back to get it right..left with no food but the refund. The food was delicious! The reason for the 1 star is because the nasty older woman on the register. There was a homeless man that bought a burrito and was eating there. He asked her for a cup of water and she yelled at him no and told him he had to leave. Poor guy, it's a hot summer night and she couldn't even give him water l, even after he already bought food from her. It was just ugly to see her being inhumane, she doesn't know what he went through that led him to be homeless. It's a small mom and pop, hole in the wall, no frills, but it is opened 24/7 for your late night munchies or early morning food needs.
