Just driving through Maupin is a trip. Like so many other small towns I've seen so far in the state of OR, they're like time capsules unto themselves. Isolated and existing much as they have over the years without succumbing to big box corporate mundanity. If you drive too fast, you might miss this tiny service station. I loved looking at their two pumps enough to take a pic along with the sticker art nearby. :) The guy who pumped the gas was super nice and mellow. $39 for a regular fill-up for my rental Corolla.

It's also on the exit and entrance ramp to I-84 so obviously they get a lot of vehicle and truck traffic. We pulled into Biggs 76 where they have several pumps and plenty of room for cars to pull in and out. Al though we were on the OR side, no one came to pump the gas. No worries, we pumped our own, gave the windows a good washing with the squeezes they had available, and were back in on the road in minutes to continue our day of adventures.

Apex was the closest auto repair shop so we stopped in hoping they could at least scan the code and tell us what the issue was. Dan came right out, was very friendly to us, our kids and our dog, and was able to ID the code. We were relieved to find out it wasn't anything serious that could leave us stranded. I'm always wary of people's reactions to out of state travelers (we are from California), but we got zero attitude from this shop. Emergency, or routine maintenance, I'd highly recommend!
