Took my car in for full check up and to fix a recall. I am still getting messages that I need to fix my recalled part so I hope they really did that. I had tires rotated, etc and two days later my tire pressure light turned on. I got new windshield wipers and did not realize until trying to drive in the rain and being unable to see ( and purchasing a new set of blades from elsewhere) that they did not remove the blade protector. Little things like this make me wonder how close they paid attention when doing all the work. Nice people there, though. read more

Bo and the folks in the service department offered excellent service today. My check engine light came on right before the holiday. I made a last minute appointment, and they were able to diagnose the issue, fix it, get the work covered by the drivetrain warranty, and get me back on the road, all in the same day. This truck is new to me and they even problem solved a locking lug / missing key issue to get it fixed. They allowed my dog in the waiting area, facilitated me working on site, offered a ride, communicated excellently well, and generally went above and beyond. This is my first experience with this service shop and I have only good things to share about the experience. Thanks guys! read more

Desiree was hostile toward us, and it is unacceptable in a position that is supposed to be all about making customers feel welcome. We reserved a Chevy Silverado EV a couple of years ago with a small deposit and have patiently been waiting for GM to sort through their supply chain issues and finally produce and have the Silverado EV ready. Finally we got an email telling us the truck was ready and we could head into the local Tonkin Chevrolet GMC store to pick it up. We mistakenly went to The Dallas location, thinking since we live in Hood River our local Tonkin would have the truck. When we arrived a young man greeted us warmly and asked if he could help us. We told him we were there to take delivery of our Silverado EV. He said they only had one in the whole store and as far as he knew it was not reserved but he would double check with their specialist. A few minutes later a woman walked up to me and asked if she could help me. She didn't introduce herself or say that she was there to follow up on the reservation inquiry. She just stood there in a demeanor that can best be described as someone discovering you inside their living room when they don't even know you. I told her we were waiting for the specialist to come over and help us with our reservation for the Silverado EV. She cut me off and said "that's me, you're waiting for me, and I'm here." Not "how can I help you" or any empathy or enthusiasm for customers who were there to purchase an expensive vehicle. Just an angry lady looking increasingly annoyed at us. She made me anxious so I got my phone out and pulled up the reservation email that told us to go into the store to pick up our truck. She hardly glanced at it and cut me off again and said "I don't know anything about that." And I tried to explain that GM had run a marketing campaign a few years ago to run up demand on their electric trucks and that we were super excited that finally after years of waiting our truck was ready. She cut me off again, telling me abruptly that she knew nothing about such program. I tried to show her the email again so that she could familiarize herself with it, and she cut me off, yet again, telling me "yes, you already showed me that but that's the first I have heard of this, so aside from that email that you keep showing me I don't know anything about that. There are no reservations for this truck, so it's not for you." I looked at my email again bewildered by her hostile tone and demeanor and that's when I realized it said Portland Tonkin. I smiled in relief and tried to ease the tension by telling her I just realized we had made a mistake and had come to the wrong store. She did not change her demeanor and instead made sure I knew she was not pleased with us confusing her store with the Portland store. She angrily told me that the two stores had nothing to do with each other aside from sharing a name. I realized there was nothing to do but to leave, this woman was clearly not interested in creating or salvaging a relationship with us as potential customers. As we walked back to our car my parents shook their heads at how rude she had been. Whether she is the owner or an employee that has been there too long, Desiree has clearly forgotten that the customer comes first, especially in the dealer space. read more

I came in looking for reliable, cost effective transportation for my family of 4. I just filed bankruptcy and only had a limited amount of money down and to work with per month. I was greeted with respect and that never changed, even when I felt I wasn't going to be able to afford a good vehicle. They worked with me and the lenders. I ended up with a really nice car that I'm going to be showing off and a payment that I feel comfortable saying I can fit into an already tight budget. He never tried to sway my interest a different direction. I could not say the same about the other dealership I went to. This dealer is actually a Ron Tonkin dealership now. I tried to buy a Chevy Volt in The Dalles. Without writing much detail, I can just say that what I got there was really poor customer service. So I tried to buy one at Ron Tonkin in Portland, but they had salesmen who were totally unprofessional, & uneducated on the Volt. I ended up buying a 2017 Volt Premier at Wentworth Chevrolet in Portland where they have knowledable sales staff with super customer service. I'd have rather bought here locally, but the dealer in The Dalles encouraged me through their behavior to take a drive to Portland. I've got a friend in town who also wants to buy a Volt. Guess where he's going for his purchase? BTW, also check reviews on Tonkin Subaru in The Dalles & Tonkin dealers in Portland. Seems like mainly poor reviews run throughout Tonkin dealers. Please don't reward bad business practices with your business! read more
