Wow. Honestly, I had no idea what I was doing when I walked into J & J - I just knew I needed some stone for the border of our property and some small gravel for a new patio. Kevin took me under his wing and explained everything, from what certain stones are typically used for to how some of them are man made (I'm a curious human). I got what I needed that day, made the order for delivery and went home happy. As they say, man plans and god laughs so of course I needed to move out the delivery - so I called them up and spoke with Gyda. What a pleasant woman! She was friendly, helpful and flexible. I ordered "screened loam" from this company. I wanted it for my gardens and top dressing my lawn. I had 2 yards delivered, $220+. It was raining, off and on, the day they delivered it, therefore Zi did not get a good look at it. I covered it with a tarp as I was working the following day. I used my wheelbarrow. The first load had me questioning what it was that they delivered. I filled the wheelbarrow again and spent more time picking sticks, over 4" in length, prices of wiring, glass. I filled a bucket with the junk I pulled out of it. I also noticed this "loam", seemed to be more of a sandy mixture. I attempted to reach out to J&J to ask if they "mistakenly" delivered the 50/50 mix instead of my screened loam. I sent a couple emails and something via messenger and I never received a reply. What they delivered seemed more like backfill from a construction site, this was not any type of good loam. I finally got someone to get rid of it from my front lawn as it was not usable. This was a waste of over $200 and they have a complete lack of customer service. read more

Thus guy is a rip off went there to get a 5gallon bucket of stone to just fill in some of the spots that had weathered away he charged me for a half cord of stone 47 dollars !!! Go somewhere else !!! read more

In April I purchased 12 pallets of large flat stone for a patio. This morning I went in and purchased 4 small stones from an open pallet to use as filler. The cost of the 4 stones was $83. I got to site and noticed that I needed some different stones from the same open pallet which had similar color. I went back to the store a couple hours after my initial purchase this morning and was informed that I can not return the stone. I was told it clearly states you no returns on palletized stone on my receipt. Which it does state on receipt. I spoke to the manager to explain that I simply picked the wrong color and want to pick the correct color. Again this was an open pallet and simply could be returned to the same spot where I removed them. The manager told me that this is their policy and there are no exceptions. In my opinion, this is an extremely poor business practice and I know I would never treat my customers this way. read more

Scheduled delivery of mulch for morning. No delivery. Call at noon, woman states running behind. Will be delivered in hour And 1/2. Not even an apology. Call again at 2:30 told truck being filled now. Man states wasnt stated for morning delivery. I took day off for this!! He apologized but doesn't make it better. I'm sitting here watching a show. Had to put the volume up due to the hissing and spitting sounds from the wet wood that we picked up. We were told it was seasoned. Absolutely not the case! Should have known by the weight and feel of the wood. I 100% could tell putting it in the fireplace but the guys we had stack it just did what we asked them. I'm sure they just did the job and didn't realize. If we stacked it ourselves we would have noticed immediately! Anyone looking for wood just check it out first. This wood will be good for next year but certainly not now! This company is local so we gave them a shot. Live and learn. read more

I'm throwing in an extra star because we recently had a mulch delivery and they managed to drop the mulch right in the driveway without killing anymore of our plants or grass. Also, my husband likes their pricing and delivery options. I still stand by dissatisfaction for the quality of their compost. I would really only recommend it for landscaping beds that will be mulched over. We've used it in our vegetable garden beds and it just looks so messy with all the bits and pieces of plastic and rubbish strewn throughout. read more

I am extremely pissed off with this company. I have been a very loyal customer for over three years and every time I deal with these people I get treated like absolute ass. Between the old cranky rude dude driving the excavator that loads up gravel, Loam and mulch. I am a Woman Owned Landscaping company and he has given me such problems when trying to pickup materials. Most recently, my biggest problem is a customer of mine ordered a custom firepit about 6 months ago which only worked two times and the part broke that turns the pit on through a controller. It being under warranty, I contacted them to order me a replacement part. Mind you, the part is $130 and could of order a thousand of them already but the point is customer service and they have non. Here's why! For four months I have been trying to get in contact with the assist manager Alyson and she constantly talking herself out of the problem on the phone but NEVER does anything to fix the issue. I get attitude when asking questions. I have given them pictures of the part, model numbers, they have the order number when they ordered the pit for me and even provided the installation instructions with replacement parts listed and which specific one I needed replaced. I have been hunting them down for four months now and still nothing has been solved. They tell me today that they need my customer to lift up the firepit and look inside for the serial number. YOU'RE FUCKING KIDDING ME RIGHT? Aside from the worst customer service and attitude ever, This was the worst decision I could of made going through this company and will never again. To all my fellow landscapers, look elsewhere. Don't want to see anyone else getting screwed over. read more

What a great experience! I have gone to another company in the area in the past and last year had an awful experience with a rude woman and waiting all day only to find out they didn't have the mulch I requested. Then I decided to go elsewhere. I called j and j I spoke to a very friendly and professional person that took my order and we scheduled a delivery. I ordered 5 yards of mulch which was delivered yesterday. I received a call in the morning from a wonderfully friendly woman to advise that my mulch will be here within the hour. Her friendly voice was just what I needed to start my grueling day of laying 5 yards of mulch down. The delivery man came 1/2 hour later and was also very friendly I laid a tarp down on my driveway and he carefully put the mulch down and barely got any on the driveway. I was impressed!! I will never go anywhere else it really was a great experience, excellent quality mulch and my yard looks beautiful read more

I have not had any issues with J&J. Their pricing is reasonable and their quality is good. Last year I got a 50/50 mix of organic compost and soil for some new raised garden beds and the plants grew like no plants I've ever had before. They were awesome. I will definitely continue to order my landscaping deliveries from them in the future! read more

Buyers beware. You must be a subject matter expert (SME) in stone when ordering with J&J Materials to ensure your order is correct or you're going to pay more in restocking fees. I came in asking for ledge stone my front porch columns and I was showed a few sample boards. I was told to pick a stone from the samples and J&J can order it in the ledge stone cut. I selected the stone I wanted, they placed the order and delivered stone to my house. I looked at the stone and saw that it was large rectangle pieces about 4x8 size and too big for columns. I called to tell them to talk about the size and they tried to blame me for the mistake. The woman said she mentioned it was "Ashler" like I knew what that meant. I thought that was the name of the stone. (Remember I asked for ledge stone originally and was only selecting a stone color I wanted). I was then told I had to pay a 25% RESTOCKING FEE ($500) if I returned. I asked why I had to pay when she ordered the wrong cut. I was then advised by them to have my mason to cut it. So now I will be paying more for labor in mason work. I will never buy anything from J&J again because they don't care about customer service at all. read more

i drive a dump truck with a 7' x 8' bed. I state this because it quite easy easy to measure a cubic yard- give or take 1 cu. ft.- in a truck bed this size. when the bed is filled 1' high, that's 2 cubic yards (+2cu. ft.). Today, 4-18-2019, i paid for 2 cubic yards of rip-rap stone $77.00 with tax) at the Plymouth facility and they put 1 cubic yard in my truck. I said to the guy in the loader, "That's 2 cubic yards?". He says "yeh, what do you want me to put more in your truck?" I said, "I want you to put 2 cy in my truck". He then points to his 2 cubic yard bucket on the loader that he's driving, which he had only filled halfway to load me, and says, "That's a 4 cubic yard bucket". So that's obviously a problem. Either this guy is brand new to driving loaders, which is unlikely, because in Massachusetts you need a hydraulic license to operate such a piece of machinery, or this guy has been instructed by his boss to short loads as a matter of course, and then play innocent when called on it. Either way, this means short loads for lots of customers who don't know the difference. Now i'm 61 and i've been running a landscaping company since i was 25. I most definitely know the difference between 1cy and 2cy, but even if i was a total idiot, i still have a freaking truck to measure it in! I most definitely would not trust these folks again. Incidentally, it is always a bad idea to buy anything, other than loam and mulch, by the cubic yard. Stone should always be bought and sold by weight: measuring stone in a loader bucket is guesswork at best. read more
