The best dentist I had experienced and saved my teeth! I used to visit Dr. Chan when I lived in the Bay Area. Then I moved to Orange County 15 years ago. Having great dental insurance plan with my employment, I visited some renounced and expensive dentists in the OC. Had some bad experiences with cosmetic and substandard services, particularly with unnecessary dental works and the bad margins from the new crowns. Which resulting in bad protection of my tooth and painful reworks. I also became withdrawn from seeing dentist. Over my trip to the Bay Area a couple years ago, I visited Dr. Chan. She patiently explained to me over my dental condition after the X-ray and worked out a plan for recovery etc. That was the time I realized that I was in deep trouble in my Tooth. I started to schedule my appointments with Dr. Chan when I made my business and personal trips to the Bay Area and I am still seeing her nowadays. She saved my teeth! Here is the story: two of my molars were in bad shape after I withdraw from seeing dentist in OC. When I had revisited my OC doctor and another specialist, was advised that both molars need to be extracted. Upon taking the 3rd opinion with Dr. Chan two years ago; found that one of the molars was unable to save but the other one CAN by good clean up and rebuild the root canal. So... she did it! After long hours of FIXING of course. Thank you! Thank you! Next step is the implant for the lost molar. Nowadays,I make my trip from OC to SFO with priority to see my dentist than other businesses. Went in for a check up, cleaning, x-rays, and what-not today. They were professional and fast. The office is cozy and clean. Everyone in Ivy's office is so sweet and hospitable. They offered me hot tea while i waited, which I took them up on. Super tasty and relaxing. You can fill out forms online if you want and they're really good about calling and reminding you about appointments. They'll even send a text message reminder if you want them to. I even got a coffee mug when I left! talk about going above and beyond. Oh and I have Aetna PPO, so if you have PPO I think you can go here. In any case, they were also really nice when I called for the first time and were great about answering my insurance questions, so if you have questions just call. Dr. Chan and Shirley are warm, competent, and wonderful. I have a beautiful smile, but my enamel is very weak and I've had a lot of trouble over the years... I think I've had fillings in each of my teeth. I had a dental emergency last year and Dr. Chan stayed late on a Friday evening to help me! She really went above and beyond to make sure I was taken care of and I have not had a single problem with the tooth since. I am forever grateful and I will be returning soon for more work. She also did a very thorough cleaning with the super sonic tool and everything. I feel so lucky to have found Dr. Chan through Yelp after moving from Canada where my aunt was my #1 dentist. p.s. This was my first time at Ivy's dentistry and it will not be my last. She was so caring and gentle through the whole wisdom teeth removal process. I went to a few different offices to compare cost and quality and Dr.Ivy's by far was the best so I trusted her with my wisdom teeth removal process. I arrived and waited for a few minutes and Shirley took me first to prep me for the removal of my wisdom teeth. Then Dr.Ivy came in to explain my X-rays and tell me what was going to happen. She made me less nervous because of how confident she was in her work! I'm not joking...my wisdom tooth removal was 10 minutes max. I could've went on my lunch break and had time to get lunch then back to work in time. If you don't believe me, visit Dr.Ivy. Dr. Ivy truly is an amazing dentist. I had a gap in my teeth, and she completely fixed it. She has amazing attention to detail, and is an absolute perfectionist. Dr. Ivy Chan is a perfectionist. I have had truckloads of work done on my teeth and mouth and Dr. Chan has been hands down the best of all of my dentists, dental students ("past guinea pig" for UOP dental school). Her attention and hard work to the detail involved helps me to have a better fitting bite and smile! I look at dentists as medical specialists for the teeth and mouth but also, they are required to be patient "sculpture-ers" as they match the topography of your other teeth in order to ensure a comfortable bite. I grind my teeth at night (Kids, college, business, etc) and I have to replace my custom mouth guards every few years. Dr. Chan has made me the BEST fitted night guard I have ever owned! Also, my teeth work is always spot on and never feels uncomfortable! Pros: Great new office with computer Xrays, Air conditioning and a bonus is your picture on the wall! So I'm new to SF and there are few things that scare me more in a new city than finding a decent dentist. Especially when I know that I need work on my two front teeth. Ivy Chan made me comfortable from the moment I walked in. Her dental office is bright and cheerful, as is she. Dr. Chan chatted with me about my teeth before taking me back for an xray and deftly re-adhering my newly detached crown. I made an appointment to return, which I did today. The whole procedure was painless, even though she could not use topical analgesics to numb me up before the dreaded injection. 2 hours in the chair working on my front teeth and I was out the door with a great new smile. Dr Chan is professional, an excellent dentist, and her assistants are great too! In addition, as a student with limited resources, she worked with me to resolve my dental problems within a budget I could afford. Dr. Chen, who devoted her time at a community clinic, was my dentist when I was a teen who couldn't afford expensive dental care. My first visit with Dr. Chan was on a Saturday. She greeted me warmly upon entering. As a first-time patient, Dr. Chan and her assistant first performed an evaluation and x-ray. What I appreciated the most during my visit were Dr. Chan's detailed explanations. She was very thorough in cleaning my teeth especially in removing some tough plaque stains. At the end of my cleaning, she spent extra time in smoothing out the surface of two teeth and explained by showing me how to brush more effectively with a soft thin-bristled toothbrush. Dr. Chan believes home care of teeth is very important and she made me realize I need to spend more time in caring for my teeth. Dr. Chan is very friendly and professional. She maintains a clean dental office too. I was very happy with my cleaning. It is a good feeling to know that your dentist truly cares for you, the patient. My family and I have been longtime patients of Dr. Chan and have always received the best of quality care from her. Dr. Chan is very caring, knowledgeable, sincere, and gentle. I am not the one who likes to go to the dentist, and I am particularly scare of needle. However, I must say that in Dr. Chan's hands, the procedures were painless. The office is nicely decorated and the waiting room is very cozy and has a wall-hanging fountain. The sound of the flowing water and the background music make one very relaxing. The treatment rooms are very modern and equipped with digital X-ray, and Dr. Chan will explain to me the diagnosis and treatment option on-the-fly. The dental chairs are also very comfortable.
