I have been going here for almost my entire life, and Dr. Chung has been the most diligent and understanding dentist. She is tough and helps me get into better habits. The office space is clean, the people are friendly, and it is in a nice part of town. read more

We went to her for years and she is a nice person. However, I had a terrible pain in my tooth that she kept telling me was fine and sent me downtown to some sort of pain professional who poked it and put hot/cold water and air on it who also said it was fine. Pain continued. FINALLY got another opinion by my fantastic dentist Dr Yesin who immediately sent me to a biological dentist who saw right away the issue. Thankfully he had a cancellation and I got in right away to have my root canal pulled - it was one of the biggest abscesses he had ever seen. No wonder I was in so much pain. We lost faith in her after that and another thing or two that happened to my husband. Again, she is a nice person but not the right dentist for us. read more

Dr. Chung is the best dentist I ever had in my life! It is such a relief to be able to trust a doctor 100% and feeling the care that goes into a patient's treatment. I have to add that it is a really nice office and the staff is on top of things and friendly. What a jem of a practice! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Chung for ~10 years. She and her staff are incredible, the best. Everything is easy and peaceful. I highly recommend her. read more

I've been a patient of Dr.Chung for years. Excellent dentist with a great team of assistants and office staff. Easy to get in touch with when scheduling appointments or for urgent issues (including after hours). Definitely recommend! read more

Has 8am appointments! A very clean dentist office ! Dr. Heejay is super professional and great to work with. I have been seeing her for over 2 years now and even though I'm out of network, I continue to stay with her. Chantel is great, I know I'll get a reminder call at least 1 week prior to my appointment, sometimes 2 weeks prior. If you choose Dr. Heejay Chung you will not be disappointed. read more

Heejay Chung, DMD - My view from the dentist chair. A true San Francisco office. - General Dentistry Near Me - San Francisco, California

Very nice visit this morning, accomodating back-to-back appointments for all three of us. Dr. Chung gushed over and handled our four-year-old just wonderfully; best dental visit ever, complete with Dr. Seuss dental bib, and carried around her complimentary tooth care package all day with pride, like she had won a prize. Dr. Chung also offered to intervene on our behalf and write a personal letter to our dental insurer when she learned we had had issues with them covering some of our previous preventive dental visits. Worth mentioning that I am still immensely grateful to Dr. Chung for salvaging my tooth after damage caused by another dentist, and giving such a perfect fit to the crown. This is one wonderful lady and an extraordinarily talented and caring doctor. Somewhere in between her practice and her professorship at UCSF, you can catch her running the SF marathon this month. Side note: Advice on parking around this Laurel Heights location: we've never been fortunate enough to land one of the free spaces, so purchase a SF parking meter card or bring eight quarters for every hour you need to be there. Luci's always ready with the change, though! read more

The entire team is great! Their attention to detail is perfection. They explain everything to you before during and after your appointment. Love the numbing rinse especially for teeth cleaning. DoctorChung is an asset to her field. Great great service! read more

Dr. Chung is wonderful!! This is coming from someone who absolutely hates going to the dentist. I recently saw Dr. Chung because I had to get a cavity filled. My last dentist didn't do a proper sealant on my tooth, so I got a cavity. My orthodontist referred me to Dr. Chung and she is honestly the best! The filling was fast and very comfortable. I think I only listened to about three songs on my iPhone by the time she was finished. She was extremely gentle and kind. The receptionist was also exceptionally friendly. I'm so happy to have found such a great dentist! read more

I went to Dr. Chung for a second opinion when a different dentist told me I needed to have 3 root canals. She didn't contradict what he said, but took a much more conservative approach to treatment. I haven't finished the treatment, but it looks like one root canal at most and the others will just need fillings. The best thing about her was that she was completely nonjudgmental. I actually do take fairly good care of my teeth, but have chronic problems with cavities. She told me that it was probably genetic, which I had always suspected but no one had EVER told me, and that I shouldn't feel at all guilty about it. Most dentists just act like I must take terrible care of my teeth, which has always made me feel awful. She talked to me a lot about prevention, which is also something that no other dentists has ever done. She was very gentle with me, nothing hurt, and she took all of the time that was necessary to explain everything that needed explaining. She is faculty at UCSF and very clearly knows what she is doing. She and her receptionist were very, very friendly. She is definitely the best dentist that I have ever been to. HIghly, highly recommended. read more

Dr. Chung is amazing! You can tell she really knows what she's doing (even teaches at UCSF) and is very gentle in her work. You can tell she doesn't want to drill into your teeth just for the sake of drilling or the paycheck. She is conservative with your teeth, which is a good thing. I think the best part is when they have to shoot your mouth up with novocain, she puts a topical numbing cream on before so you can't feel the shot at all! That's honestly the worst part! Lucy, her assistant is also great! She knows what she's doing and is very personable. She makes you feel comfortable too! Basically, if you need a dentist that you can trust, will feel comfortable sitting in her chair and (obviously) want her to know what she's doing, Heejay is the dentist for you! Love her! read more

Let this update serve as the sixth star! Went back to have a cavity taken care of and wow! This is the first time in my life that I have never had any pain associated with the process, not a single drop. Usually they just keep drilling until you jerk in pain. Heejay is passionate about what she does and it shows in her work. You rock Heejay! And you too Luci! read more

Dr. Chung is the best dentist I have had the pleasure of working in my mouth. She is super nice and explained everything, and always answered all my questions. I'm always concerned that medical professionals will get all judgmental with my health, but she is super pleasant. All her equipment is really modern. I'd never seen it before; digital x-rays that pop up immediately! Wow! the Future! Dr. Chung also lectures at UCSF, I think, so she's involved in teaching and new things. I trust her utterly with my teeth things. Also, her office is nicely decorated, and the staff has been unequivocally friendly. Don't forget to floss! read more

I was referred to Dr. Chung my Dr. Ho who was booked until June. Dr. Chung was able to see me the next morning! She was a wonderful person to meet and chat with. The staff was VERY friendly and warm too! She was very reasonable and worked out a way to schedule an appointment when my dental insurance kicked in. She was very logical on what dental work needed priority and the fact that my dental work could wait a few weeks. Beautiful office. Very white, clean and a wonderful view of San Francisco streets. So far, I would definitely recommend Dr. Chung. read more

Dr. Chung is great! This review is based on my initial dental exam with her. She was very warm and friendly, no lack of bedside manner here. She was very thorough and explained what she was doing at every turn so you are aware of what she is doing and why - she teaches at UCSF so I guess its to be expected that she would be great at this. :o) She explained that she was doing what is called a "probe" and she probed along the entire gumline of my mouth to see how healthy my gums are. She charted every spot on the computer and said she would keep charting as I get along in age (for my age she said the next one would be in three years) From what I saw she has great technology available at her office, she took a bite wing xray and it instantly popped up on the screen in front of me. She offered to file down a little crack on the edge of my front tooth, something which no other dentist even bothered to comment on. She also commented that she saw that I was a grinder (from my full mouth xray copy I brought from my previous dentist) - she said I'll need a biteguard. She said she focuses on prevention - something which I agree with, it prevents future problems that will end up costing a fortune later! read more

A friend recommended Dr. Heejay and thought I would give her office a try. I am so glad I did. I have not been to a Dentist before that was so gentle and concerned for how I was feeling. Normally I am very nervous about going to the Dentist because of bad experiences in the past. Not the case anymore. I am totally at ease when I go in for my Dental visit. If you are looking for a new Dentist, I highly recommend Dr. Heejay. read more

Dr. Heejay Chung is the world's best dentist. Her staff is amazing. I have been to many dentists across the US and she sets the bar.

I absolutely love Dr. Heejay Chung. She goes above and beyond when it comes to dental care, and it is apparent that she really cares about her patients. Her office is nice and bright, and she has the most adorable office secretary (Lucy?). Thanks, Dr. Heejay, for being so awesome! read more

Dr. Heejay is so far the best dentist I have ever been to. Very fast, efficient, yet completely thorough and professional. Great office with wonderful staff and a tremendously serene feel. Classical music is piping out the speakers and puts you at ease. I feel like i am in good hands, with the best technology and most of all Dr. Heejay knows how to use it. She's very clear about what needs to be done in the future, and isn't trying to sell whitening or unnecessary services. I felt great coming out of the office! This is the kind of dentist people dream of! Strongly recommended! read more

Changing your dentist is not a task you take on lightly. Sorry I took so long to be free of the downtown parking nightmare of the downtown medical high rise buildings. Wonderful to be in a neighborhood. Great staff. No pain. Love the Dr, the staff the office, wish Dr. Chung, was "in network" must swap insurance ASAP. read more

Since when was going to the dentist a pleasant experience? I walked in, and the lighting was soothing and there was classical music at precisely the right volume. Heejay and Lucy smiled at me and made me feel welcome. The second time I went, I didn't have to fill out any paperwork. Zero. I walked in the front door, through the waiting room and into the dentist's chair. Period. The chair itself has a beautiful view and everything is computerized so you can see x-rays right away. All the office technology is ten years ahead of any other dentist I have seen. Heejay is careful, skilled, gentle and kind. She also has very small hands, which makes a difference. I left with a smile. read more

Dr. Chung is my favorite dentist ever!!!! I have had sooo many horrible experiences with dentists, especially with having fillings. Dr. Chung is extremely gentle, professional, and recognizes that the dentist chair is not the easiest place to be. She has a very calming bedside manner and checks in with you often to make sure you are comfortable and ok. She is also very fast and efficient and uses the latest dental technology in her office. The receptionists are also easy to work with and her dental technicians definitely know what they are doing as well. I've never had an issue during my many visits to Dr. Chung and though I am moving out of state, I may even come back to her for future visits when I am in town because I trust her so much. She is that good! read more

I'm new to San Francisco and also new to the concept of actually having dental insurance. (Tres luxurious! for some of us. Womp. Womp.) So when I was searching for a dentist, I scoured the web, my insurer's page, and of course Yelp (mmm shocker, right?). I saw the glowing reviews of Dr. Heejay Chung's office and I figured this was a legit place. And it truly is. Located in Laurel/Presidio/Pacific Heights, one would expect a pretentious staff who usually cater to the upper echelons of San Francisco society. Nope. Not here. As soon as I walked through the door, the receptionists greeted me with a warm hello and we quickly went through some paperwork. I was immediately taken back for a consultation and x-rays. They performed a quick and very thorough cleaning. I spoke with Dr. Heejay about my teeth and she and her staff gave excellent advice. I even learned some stuff about teeth. Imagine that! I've been so used to sub-par service in other dental offices so receiving a modicum of education today was refreshing... because I *do* want to know how to maintain my teeth! I want to know why things like tartar, cavities, etc. happen rather than just quick sound bites like "improper brushing" or "you need to floss." That's good and all, but it's safe to say the general public knows those things already. So I appreciated their more detailed advice to me. The facilities are superb. As an appreciator of classical music, I enjoyed the sounds playing during the procedure. No "muzak" pumped into the air here! All in all, this was - dare I say it for a dental office!! - a pleasant experience. And no joke, I was so relaxed throughout I almost fell asleep during the cleaning (well that, and I didn't have my coffee yet). I highly recommend Dr. Chung's office! read more

Office Staff, please do not lose my insurance information (that I just gave you) and then call every day to get it while I'm on vacation. It ruins potential patient confidence. Unable to even meet Dr. Chung due to office staff fumble. Boo. read more

This is the time you need 6 stars review! Dr Chung is BEST dentist! She is so knowledgable and patient! She did amazing job fixing my front teeth! So nature that you can't see the difference! Highly recommended! read more

Dr Chung clearly cares so much about her patients. She's really good about explaining what might need to be done and is as gentle as a destiny can be. read more

Dr. Chung and her whole staff is awesome! The 5 star reviews are very well deserved! She's the 4th dentist I've gone to in SF because I didn't like the others for various reasons, and she has been perfect. She's been great with my "simple" needs and then has tackled my husband's complex and seemingly never-ending issues! Their office message even includes Dr. Chung's cell phone in case of emergencies. I mean, that's insane. read more

A few years ago, I decided to get adult braces. In preparation for the braces, I had to get four teeth removed. The idea of this was horrifying, but Dr. Chung was so gentle, I hardly felt anything when she pulled them out. She's also very communicative, definitely the best dentist I've ever had. (Full disclosure: She's a good friend of mine, but I swear, this is not a biased or fake review.) read more

Our whole family goes to Dr. Chung - my boys love her, she is truly amazing. Gentle, kind, & brilliant. Beautiful, state-of-the-art office suite - staff is fabulous. I'm in my 40's and have been to plenty of dentists - she is the best one I've ever had. 5 stars isn't enough! read more

Dr. Chung is a thorough and very skilled dentist. Also, in this new day and age of dentists she is a rare find; as she will only do what you medically need and won't recommend extra procedures that are not essential - plain and simple - you can trust that you are getting the care you "really" need. Dr. Chung is also a good diagnostician. I just recently visited her for a filling that had been bothering me for quite sometime. I had been to another dentist to check the filling out and they were unable to see a problem. Sure enough Dr. Chung did an x-ray and visual exam and found that the filling was leaking. She repaired the cavity and right afterward I had zero pain and no sensitivity to heat or cold- something that is unusual. A bonus point - Dr. Chung is both a clinical dentist (she practices) and is an Assistant Professor at UCSF so she's up to date on the most current dental procedures. read more

Dr. Chung is the best dentist, the best health care provider, I have ever had in my life. She is so genuinely caring, gentle and thorough. I was having a problem with a tooth, and she called me a few days later to check how it was doing. I've never before had a doctor or dentist call to check on how I was doing - a great example of her compassion and concern! She has a great team working with her as well. The assistants are thorough and personable, talking me through things so I know what to expect, and have a very nice bedside manner. The office is modern, immaculate and beautiful. I've never had a problem finding street parking in the area. read more

Love Dr. Chung so much. I just relocated from the east coast, and was so happy to find such an amazing dentist. She repaired a crown my past dentist had done (it had fallen out only after a few months), and she was so attentive to the entire matter. She's a great dentist, and focuses on preventative care, which is much more cost effective in the long run. read more

After going to the same dentist for the last 8 years I've decided to try Dr. Heejay Chung. She was a recommendation from a friend. Her office is 1 mile from my house and after reading all the YELP recommendations, I made the appointment. Who knew dental technology has changed so much in the last 8 years. My old dentist, however nice, was still using old fashioned xray and didn't have the crazy gadgets that Dr. Chung did. You mean i can see my teeth condition on a LCD instantly? If only that LCD can show HBO while getting teeth cleaned. I am sure someone's working on that right now. Her office is very modern; clean; beautifully designed and great view.... not of the ceiling while getting cleaned. You can tell in her design, patients experience was thoroughly considered. read more

I have tried quite a few dentist on three different continents in the past couple of years, but Dr. Chung wins my personal dentist award hands-down. She has a delicate touch and a lot of empathy which is very important for someone like me who is not too happy about dentists, and she clearly knows what she's doing. Very happy to go here. read more

I recently went to Dr. Chung for teeth cleaning and Zoom teeth whitening. She is the most caring, sweet and gentle dentist. Her bedside manner is amazing and you can tell she takes the utmost care of her patients. Luci, her assistant, is also wonderful and makes sure all of her patients feel at home. Her office is beautiful and conveniently located in Presidio/Laurel Heights. My teeth are now several shades whiter and I feel more confident smiling now. Thank you, Dr. Chung. read more

I was visiting my daughter in SF ( I live in Sacramento) and my tooth fractured on Saturday morning! I panicked as I spit out pieces of my tooth. My daughter assured me she knew of an amazing dentist who worked in her building, she called right then, they said come in right now,"we"ll work you in and take care of everything". Oh my goodness they were wonderful! Lucy her assistant was so kind, so comforting and I am a huge chicken. In 45 minutes I was back enjoying my wonderful weekend. My only regret is I don't live close enough to make her my regular dentist! I love Dr. Chung she was amazing, I give her a heartfelt THANK YOU! read more

I have to say, Dr. Heejay Chung has changed my mind about dentists!! She is, in a word, AMAZING. I would literally give her 10 stars if I could. I had the worst vacation experience. Chipped one of my front teeth on an ice cube the second day in. Went to a NYC emergency dentist, who was essentially a butcher who recommended root canals and crowns on BOTH front teeth. I declined and just asked for cosmetic filling to get me home to the Bay Area. She barely let the novocaine set in before sticking me in my gums. The worst. So I arrive back in SF, without a dentist and was recommended to Dr. Chung's office. I called with my sob story. Lucy, the office manager and dental assistant was BEYOND lovely. She said that they would find time and call me back. Dr. Chung called herself at 7pm that night to say that she would make herself available to help me after office hours on the day that I could do between business trips. Lucy also called in advance to get my insurance information so I would be able to make a determination about what was covered and what I was willing to spend. They are lovely and genuine people. Finally, Dr. Chung is so gentle. She is picky and a perfectionist and careful and the most gentle dentist I have ever had. I literally had the work that I needed done and immediately signed up for a teeth cleaning. I have been terrified of the dentist for 5 years. I never thought that I would be eager to have a dentist in my mouth. She doesn't judge, she just fixes. It is awesome. I literally cannot recommend her and her office highly enough. They are amazing. Great for those who have been avoiding the dentist. She also teaches, so you know you're in professional hands. read more

Those of us in our forties or older all grew up in the "old days" of dentistry, when fear of the drill was only surpassed by fear of the needle. My childhood dentists were brutal. I say dentists because most of them would never see me more than once - I screamed so much when I saw the torture implements that some of them wouldn't even see me once. Dr. Heejay has created a calming atmosphere in her office that reflects her calming chairside manner. She talks you through what she's doing and lets you know that, at any time, all you have to do is give her the signal and she'll pull back. None of this old fashioned "drill through the pain" mentality. And as it turns out, once she's got you there, she's telling you what she's doing, and... before you know it, she's done. So, dental wusses of the baby boomer generation, which is pretty much all of us, go get your teeth fixed. She won't hurt you. read more
