We paid thousands of dollars for custom shutters in our upscale Yuma, AZ home. David did a good job measuring and installing the shutters but within the same year on the main shutter in our den, the wood began to crack. I contacted him because he said the shutters and work would be guaranteed and with warrantee as I understood it. When I contacted him in the matter though he told me something to the effect that an individual who either provided shutters to him had moved - or there was some other reason he could not replace the cracked and defective shutter. Basically we were told we would just have to live with it because there was nothing he could do. These were all custom and very expensive matching shutters that he said were his top of the line shutters. I paid several thousand dollars in cash for the work - having shutters placed on every window in our house but despite his guarantees, he did absolutely nothing to resolve the problem and to this day - 4 years later STILL has never contacted my wife and I to make things right and so we are left with a very expensive white shutter with a dark crack running down it on the largest window in our house and in the den where we entertain our guests. All in all, I think David is an ethical person and a reasonably hard worker when he needs money. But in the end, being perfectly and objectively honest, he failed the test of reliability, honesty and follow-up. These were brand new shutters. There was no wear and tear issue. We knew David personally but perhaps learned a lesson not to give business to a current or former personal friend just based on the fact that this person is or was a friend, but rather just find a good, reputable, professional company where you don't know one another so they will not take advantage of the relationship but be more inclined to follow a professional policy. I gave David a 3 star review where if it had been anyone else the review would be only one star and I did it because I know David is capable but I think he took advantage of a personal relationship to kind of take his foot off the gas pedal and not provide the services he would to someone he did not know and he essentially took advantage of a friendship, knowing we would not take him to small claims court over the matter. The lesson to be learned here is you won't necessarily get the best services from a friend - and doing business with a friend, among other things, can ruin a friendship. Be discerning and find someone - preferably a reputable company as opposed to pretty much a one man business that is capable of standing behind their products. That way if something goes wrong you have recourse and are not left with both a loss of significant money and having to just live with a defective product because it matches all the shutters in your home and no one else carries the one that is defective - leaving you with only the option to just live with the problem or go spend thousands of dollars all over again replacing all the shutters in your home with other ones so they all match. Go with a bigger company and one who has been around awhile and has replacement capabilities. read more
